The group was finally on its last stop. After five whole days of travel, Claire said that they are nearing the city. Something which gladdened Asther who wanted to pick up the pace in improving and sharpening his skills. Before this, they made one last stop. They moved to a spot that’s near the exit of the forest but still far enough to not get noticed by the guards on top of the city’s walls.“We’re going to eat the remainder of our food here. We can continue moving afterwards.” She commanded and, her male soldiers gladly complied. These two are assisted by Octavia who began to cook and set up the eating area. Meanwhile, Asther watched as Claire went towards him. And just from the expression on her face, he already knows what it is that she would ask.“Hey.”“Nope.”“What do you mean nope?”“Nope. As in…I didn’t do anything to your knight okay?”Claire chuckled. “So you already know what I’m going to ask.”Asther is far from being oblivious of his surroundings. As an assassin, he has
Tall walls surround the city of Valezian. Even from afar, Asther could already recognize these. How could he not when these sturdy walls tower at thirty feet in heigh. That is how high the walls are.Upon getting near, Asther and his group are greeted the same way as in the teen’s village. There are guards on top of the walls who saw them coming and, one of these immediately went down to greet the group. However, the iron gates of the city are not opened for them. Instead, the guard used magic to get down. Stepping on a stone platform that stuck to he wall which also immediately descended. Reaching ground level. This reminder Asther of elevators back on earth. It’s a bit more medieval in how it looks but, as far as practicality is concerned, the stone platform is faster and more efficient. The guard himself didn’t look like a pushover. The man’s muscles are evident even with the armor he has worn on. And, on his chin is a long scar that extends up to his neck. Asther doesn’t know how
The place where Asther and his group will be staying at is by no means a small abode. It is a large manor with white brick walls. This is completely different from the houses back on his village and, it looks even more refined compared to the walls of this city that they just entered.“What do you think?” Octavia asked, standing right next to Asther. In front of the both of them is Claire.“I think that this place is being well maintained.” The necromancer quickly answered. “There are plants that are growing properly. They all look trimmed and watered daily. Plus, there are also beautiful flowers growing about. Those won’t simply grow without delicate care. As for the manor itself, the windows are clear, there doesn’t seem to be a single speck of dust around and, even cobwebs are nonexistent.”“You’re able to observe all of that just now?” Octavia asked.“Of course. This is part of my job after all.” Asther replied. The two are now on better terms. However, the kind of relationship th
The day ended without much difficulty. As Asther commanded, Octavia remained by Claire’s side. Meanwhile, he himself continued observing the surroundings. Monitoring every person within the manor without missing a heartbeat. If it wasn’t for Ernest showing up at the most crucial moments, Asther would’ve been able to gather more intel. Unfortunately, this butler seemed to be on to him. That’s why Asther’s activities have been reduced further.Yet, even with this, there are a lot of valuable information that he is able to pick up. Basically, with how Ernest has been weary of him, Asther at least knows which spots within the manor contain some top secret information. Those which constantly has maids and butlers roaming around them.Of course these servants tried their best to not make it look obvious as well. But this effort is wasted on the likes of Asther. He could see right through them, just like how he has always seen through most of the lies back on earth. And, because of this, Ast
The following day, Asther woke up early and proceeded to entering Claire’s room. Normally he wouldn’t do something like this as his intentions might get confused for something else entirely but, this is precisely the reason why he sent Octavia to Claire’s room in the first place. As he expected, the female knight is already up and about. This helped Asther who left waking up the lady Ildefonso to her knight. As for him, he waited on the couch and prepared the information he was about to give the two.Claire woke up soon after. The necromancer thought that he would see a side of Claire that is not lady like seeing as she just woke up. But he was completely mistaken as, every move Claire made just as she woke up were still poised. To the point that it was unbelievable already.Nevertheless, Asther wasn’t there to simply watch Claire wake up. He is there to deliver his findings and, this he did. Beginning with the mapping of the manor up to the recent activities he involved himself in.“
“What do you think of the new recruit?” Allan asked, looking at Asther from the corner of his eye.At the moment, the teen in question is being instructed by the head blacksmith Guffthan. These two individuals are so immersed in what they’re doing that, they don’t seem like they can notice the surroundings. The very reason why Allan could talk with his fellow disciple, Rudeus.“I think he’s full of it.” Rudeus said in an irritated tone.“You got that right. He comes here, says that he’s a magician and, wants to learn smithing in just a single day? What kind of bull is that?” Allan added.“It’s like he’s making light of us. Just because we didn’t receive a job class as good as his, he thinks that he can learn it easily.” Rudeus added. There is a good reason why the two of these are pissed with Asther. Everyone receives a job class at the age of fifteen. However, not everyone is happy with the job class that they receive. This doesn’t come as a surprise, especially for those who want a
“Did you get the sword fixed?” Claire asked. The group are still on the road. As such, the servant from the Ragencliff household is still with them. Meaning, they can’t talk about plans in order to enter the locked room.“Sure did.” Was Asther’s short reply as he unsheathed the blade at the side of his waist. Showing a magnificent shine that reflected the sun’s setting rays. It’s so magnificent that even the servant can’t help but take a glance at the weapon.“Are you sure that’s the same weapon you brought?” Octavia asked.“The master of the shop repaired it himself. That’s why it’s in this condition.” Asther explained.“Well…I guess we should expect this much. Seeing as you needed more than half the day’s worth of time staying there.” Claire added.“I needed to make sure that he’s doing it properly of course.” Asther replied. This is the little trick that Asther cooked up. The alibi he had for going to the shop is to repair the weapon. However everyone knows that repairing a weapon
Asther’s day is far from over. Just like yesterday, he went out and proceeded to surveying the whole of the manor. Aiming to go straight for the third floor which is his target. Before this, he gave one instruction to Octavia.“Sit near the window and don’t sleep yet.”“What? Why do I need to do that?” Octavia asked.“Just do as I say.” Asther said.“You know, leaving out some details to your plans doesn’t actually count as you being convincing.”“I know.” Was all that Asther said as he finally went outside the room. There are a few items he brought along with him this time around. It isn’t just learning how to smith that Asther did in the forge. No. With the gold coins that he used to pay for his lessons, Asther also requested a hook and a key. Both these items were gladly given by his master because, these don’t even amount to much. Hence, with just these items with him, Asther continued to the next phase of his plans. However, he isn’t able to move just as quickly this time around.
