Asther is able to get far away from the village. During the time when he killed Baron, James, and Chad, he actually ran quite the distance. Getting a good grasp of his surroundings, as well as the route he’d take when he escapes.

He used this to change his clothes because, quite frankly, he can’t use the ceremonial clothes if he goes inside a new village. This would only make him look suspicious.
