Victor tries to ignores her. But just after he gets out, he holds the door so he can talk to her for a moment.
“If possible, just use a normal car later. Going around with this would only make me the center of people's attention. Honestly, I don’t feel comfortable at all.”
“Why? Does working too long as a pizza delivery man make you uncomfortable with all of this?” asks Viona with a silly smile.
“No! But! A Limousine? Why did you pick me up in the limousine anyway?”
“Why not? I knew you were having a divorce matter with that witch girl. I decided to use this limousine only to show off to her. Becasue I knew she dumped you for looking so lowly on you.”
“Whatever!” Victor waves his hand as he takes his face away. “I just don’t want to go to work by using this limos anymore.”
“You don’t need to worry. We’ve prepared another car for you at the office.”
Victor puts on his tired face, thinking that it would just another luxurious car.
And then, Viona also intends to get out of the car, to the same side where Victor currently is. But Victor prevents her, and tells her to stay in the car. He also tells the driver to keep driving to the office.
“Why?” asks Viona cluelessly.
“Just keep going. I’ll meet you later in front of the office.”
That limousine keeps going, and Viona can only hold her head with Victor’s antics. After arriving at the Counterbrand office, she waits for Victor at the lobby.
But then, there is a security girl with black skin and curly hair near the street. She holds Victor when he intends to get into the lobby. That security girl is having a doubt that Victor would have any business with anyone in that company.
“Excuse me, Sir! Can I help you?”
“Ah, it’s okay. I don’t need your help to get into the office. I know where I need to go,” he replies .
“And where are you going to go?”
“To work!” Victor replies with plain face as he points his finger to the office.
“A new employee?” she asks again with a frown face.
“Yeah! Sorry, she is waiting for me,” he replies by pointing toward Viona.
“She?”
And so, that security girl turns to the lobby and realizes who is the "she" that Victor was talking about.
“Her? You are telling me you have a business with her?”
“Yeah! Excuse me!” says Victor as he leaves and approaches Viona.
That security girl shakes her head gently for a moment. But then, she turns her attention to the other commotion, getting back to her job in clearing the pedestrian in front of the office. And indeed, that place is a bit crowded at that hour.
Victor’s chest is now a bit wet with sweat. There’s no way he is going to join the meeting with the other managers in that state.
That’s when he asks for a moment to go to the restroom before joining with Viona to the meeting.
“I won’t take long,” says Victor as he leaves.
“I’ll wait for you upstairs. Just be quick!”
Victor heads to the restroom to tidy himself there. He washes his face, and then uses a hand dryer to dry his hands.
For a moment he is pensive looking at the hand dryer. No one knows what he is thinking right now. But then, he directs his shirt to that hand dryer, to dry the part of his clothes that has been wet with sweat.
One employee comes in and seems to be a bit startled. He then chuckles a bit by shaking his head, and follows it with a little restrained laugh. But Victor just ignores him.
And of course, the man laughs again when he walks out of the restroom. But then, he stops for a moment and takes a look at Victor with a funny smile.
“Heh!!”
“What?” Victor asks.
“Nah, it’s nothing. It's a good idea indeed. If I were in your condition, maybe I'd use the same idea,” says that man with a friendly smile.
Victor smiles as he shakes his head.
Incidently, there is another employee who has already been in the toilet even before Victor entered the restroom. As that man gets out of the toilet, he finds Victor who is still busy with the hand dryer.
That employee also puts on a funny reaction, looking at Victor with a slight frown on his face. When Victor turns his face to that person, that man couldn't hold back his laughter since he knows Victor’s face so well.
“Aren't you Victor? What are you doing here?”
“Oh, Oliver? You work here?” Victor replies.
“Yeah. I’m working here. What about you? As far as I remember, the last time I see you on the street the other day, you were still delivering pizza. Not if you quit and want to apply for a job here.”
“Yeah, I'll work here soon,” says Victor.
“Is that true?”
Victor smiles scornfully by nodding his head, while he is still busy drying his shirt with the hand dryer.
The man named Oliver notices Victor's condition which is currently in a mess. He begins to think that Victor might have been accepted to work at the company as an office boy.
That man shakes his head as he is busy washing his hands in front of the mirror. He then approaches Victor again.
“Can I use it for a while?” he asks.
“Oh, sure!” Victor distances himself from that hand dryer.
After that, that man uses the same hand dryer to dry his hands. But before long, he lets Victor use it again.
When Victor brings his shirt back to the hand dryer, the man named Oliver busies himself with his hair back in front of the mirror.
“I really can't understand how a smart student like you could end up like this,” he says.
“Well, that's life,” Victor replies plainly, trying to ignore that man’s concern.
Oliver can't hold his chuckles. He turns around, patting Victor on the shoulder from behind, and then brings his face closer as if to say something.
“I'm just saying, school grades and all the records you have in college mean nothing when you enter the workforce like this place. The most important thing is a breakthrough idea that sells and brings profits, as well as a solution that can solve a problem.”
“Is that so?” replies Victor.
“Well, I doubt you will need this humble advice while you work here. But who knows? Right?” Oliver closes his advice by patting Victor's shoulder a few times.
But then, he notices that the back of his hand is still a little wet. He just rubs it against Victor's shirt on the shoulder a few times. And Victor just stares at that man’s hand plainly.
Oliver pats his shoulder again as he leaves the restroom.
“See you later!” he says.
“You bet?!” Victor replies.
That man chuckles again for getting such a reply from Victor, feeling so satisfied for successfully teasing him. He even thinks about teasing him even more the next time they meet, as he believes that Victor works in that company only as a lackey.
Victor is not so offended by Oliver's last words, because they were true. Even so, he is still a little offended when he was teased by Oliver that way. Especially with the way he rubbed his wet hand on his shoulder. Only after he finishes playing with that hand dryer machine, he decides to go to the meeting. He calls Viona again asking for a direction. [Just take an elevator and go to the top floor] “The top floor?” [Yeah, the 23rd floor. I’ll be waiting for you upstairs] Victor starts looking for an elevator. He isn’t really familiar with the condition of that office because it is his first time to be there. Until then, a security shows the way for him. But he has to wait for a while. Given that the building has 23 floors, it might take him a long time to wait there. There are also two female employees who appear and wait there with him. And then… “Ting!” One elevator opens and there’s no one inside it. Victor enters the elevator with the two female employees. Just before t
After waiting for a moment, Viona asks the others if there are still those who want to leave the meeting room. He even gives a warning to those who decide to stay. “Mr. Charles wouldn't mind if anyone opted out now. But whoever later chooses to stay, after that they will not be allowed to leave this ship.” One of them raises his hand like he wants to ask something. “At least, tell us first the reason behind all this. Why did Charles choose this obscure person to lead this company?” “I have no obligation to answer that question. If you mind, you can leave. We still have a lot of people who can replace all the positions here,” says Viona. That one who expressed that question immediately takes his leave. And after that, another two also choose to leave the room as well. Until finally, there are only 7 people in the room besides Viona and Victor left. “Anyone? After this, there is no option for you to leave anymore,” says Viona. The seven people don’t give any answers. Two of them a
Victor leaves the meeting. None of those executives voice their objections either. Except for Viona, who immediately rushes after Victor to the next room. “Hey, Victor! Where are you going?” Victor answers her as he keeps walking out of the room and heads to the elevator. “Sorry, I have a problem that I need to solve immediately. If I don’t clear this issue, that Mr. Benigno will be mad at me. Even though he's just a pizza shop owner, some say he has a connection with some mafia.” But then Victor pauses for a moment right after he touches a button on the elevator, realizing that he doesn’t have enough money to pay his debt to Mr. Benigno. He has two bank accounts. The one he has used since his college day, which is money he collects by himself. While the other bank account is the money he got solely from his father, William Charles, one of the richest businessmen in the country. He has saved a stellar amount of money since he rarely used it in the past. However, his father had pu
Oftentimes, people will realize the existence value of something, only after they lose it. Just like Mr. Benigno, who is now beginning to feel the loss of a reliable employee like Victor. Regardless of how often he scolded Victor, the truth is that Victor had worked for him for five years should mean something to him. Actually, he has found a replacement for Victor. But it makes him realize it even more, how difficult it is to find an employee as good as Victor. After all, where else could he find a graduate from a renown university, who would want to work for him as a pizza delivery man. “Told you! You are going to miss him. A man like him is such a rare nowadays,” says a waiter teasing Mr. Benigno. “Shut up! Why don't you just go out there and teach that new kid a thing or two,” Mr. Benigno shouts back as he walks away. He returns to his office, grabs the phone, and tries to call Victor again. But Victor doesn’t answer his call. It makes that fat Italian man with a thick mustac
Meanwhile, Emma is currently in a dilemma. Even though she had divorced from Victor, she isn’t even Lucas' legal wife yet. And somehow, Lucas seems so reluctant to bring her to live with him at his house along with his family. And he has no intention to find a place for Emma to stay for the time being. Instead, Lucas prefers to seek help, hiring a locksmith to open the door for Emma, so she can get back into the house where she lived with Victor. “You sure this is your house?” the locksmith asks. “Why don’t you just ask that old lady neighbor?” says Emma. The locksmith glances a bit to the house next door, and indeed there is an old lady, Mrs. Greta, who is busy watering her little garden. Seeing that the old lady doesn’t really concern about them, the locksmith is quite sure that the clients he is serving currently are not thieves. After all, he is just lazy to bother to make sure of it. And so, he just unlocks the house for them. After being able to enter the house, Emma shows
She picks and examines them, both the ring and the box. She might not be an expert to judge a jewelry item. But she starts to doubt that it is a fake ring. Only after she finds the name “Johnson’s Pleasantry” under the box, she is affirmed that the ring can’t be a fake item. Johnson’s Pleasantry is a renowned jewelry shop in the town where Victor visited before to buy that item. The shop is very popular amongst couples who want to get married. It is known for their validity and good reputation in selling jewelry that is specifically for weddings. “There’s no way Johnson’s Pleasantry would sell a fake ring to people who are going to get married,” she mutters with widened eyes. Emma puts her shoes back on, and rushes out of the house with the ring. She locks the door and pulls out her cell phone to call Lucas back. She thinks it would be better to go with Lucas than to book a taxi with her own money. Or maybe to help her to sell the ring with the best price she could get. But then
She indeed expected that a jewel from Johnson’s Pleasantry would be expensive. But she never expected it to be that expensive. “A Million?” she mumbles by holding her head with one hand, while the other hand is trying to keep her balance by finding something to hold. “So? Did it enough to surprise you, Mam? I’m also happy for you to have such a good husband like him,” says the owner. “No! This is too much. I expected it would be expensive. But 1 Million dollars is too much.” It attracts the attention of the few customers who happen to be there. But Emma doesn’t pay that much attention. She still can’t imagine how Victor managed to collect that much money to buy that ring. That’s when she remembers about Victor having two bank accounts. All this time, Victor only used one of his bank accounts. But Emma never paid much attention about the other one, since she believed it wouldn’t be much different. After all, what would she expect from a husband who had only been a pizza delivery m
It’s not that she can’t sell the ring at all. It’s just that the shop owner is just reluctant to rebuy the item back, since he is a bit dubious with Emma. He is afraid of the risk of buying a stolen jewel.“I’m truly sorry, Mam. I’m afraid you still need to discuss this thing with your husband again. He is the only one who can sell this item to us. At the end of the day, I believe your husband will insist for you to accept the gift,” says the shop owner.Emma is getting impatient, and carelessly forces herself to get the shop owner to buy the item again.“Can't you just recreate that appraisal document? I'm willing to drop the price even more to compensate whatever process you were telling me just now,” she insists. The shop owner squints his eyes with a suspicious gaze. Now he is really starting to doubt Emma's testimonials for being Victor's wife.“Mam, I'm afraid that I have to call for the police now,” he says.Emma is petrified to hear him mentioning the police. But she still insi
