Victor is not so offended by Oliver's last words, because they were true. Even so, he is still a little offended when he was teased by Oliver that way. Especially with the way he rubbed his wet hand on his shoulder.
Only after he finishes playing with that hand dryer machine, he decides to go to the meeting. He calls Viona again asking for a direction.
[Just take an elevator and go to the top floor]
“The top floor?”
[Yeah, the 23rd floor. I’ll be waiting for you upstairs]
Victor starts looking for an elevator. He isn’t really familiar with the condition of that office because it is his first time to be there.
Until then, a security shows the way for him. But he has to wait for a while. Given that the building has 23 floors, it might take him a long time to wait there.
There are also two female employees who appear and wait there with him.
And then…
“Ting!”
One elevator opens and there’s no one inside it. Victor enters the elevator with the two female employees.
Just before the elevator doors close, another female employee comes running to them. She looks troubled carrying some documents in her arms.
“Please, wait! Hold it, please!” she asks.
Victor hears an amused laughter from the two female employees in front of him. And one of them even presses the button to close the elevator door.
“Hey, what are you doing?” Victor prevents them, and holds the door.
“Tch! Such a party pooper! Are you new here?” asks one of the girls.
“Yeah!” Victor replies curtly by still holding the door.
That one female employee with the stack of documents seems so relieved to be able to get into the elevator with them. She rushes inside the elevator and stands behind the other two female employees.
“Can you help me? Press the 11th floor for me, please,” asks that one female in the back.
But one of the two women in the front simply presses the button for the 16th floor, and then backs away. She looks so unwilling to help that girl.
Victor immediately steps forward and presses the button for the 11th floor. He also presses the number 23 because he had forgotten that he had not determined his destination earlier.
The two female employees glance at each other after seeing Victor press the 23rd floor button.
“Hey, new guy. Are you serious about going to the 23rd floor? Do you go there to look for the rooftop? You think this is a school building?" says one of them.
Victor glances briefly at the ID card of the woman who is currently questioning him. And there he finds the name Abigail Collins. While the other one has an ID card with the name Sarah Campbell.
“No, I do want to go to the 23rd floor,” replies Victor.
Again, the two female employees glance at each other with frowns on their foreheads.
“Excuse me!” says the girl named Abigail. “But the 23rd floor is only for the executives of this company. Do you really know where you are going?”
It seems like these two female employees are finding it hard for a guy like Victor to have any business on the 23rd floor. After all, he only wears a messy white shirt. Even his look is still a bit messy. To make it worse, he didn’t take any shower at all before he left the house.
“Do you have any appointment with someone?” the girl named Sarah interrupts.
“Oh, that's right. There's someone waiting for me upstairs,” Victor replies.
The two of them seem so doubtful about Victor's answer. They begin to interrogate him, thinking that he is just an outsider with bad intentions in the company.
“No, I'm not lying. I did have an appointment with someone,” Victor explains.
“With whom?”
“A girl named Viona,” says Victor.
“Viona? Do you mean Viona Emery?”
Victor nodes plainly. Only then do those two girls stop asking him. But they still look so hard to believe Victor's statement.
Even when they are about to get out of the elevator, Victor still hears their whispers. Although slowly, Victor knows for sure that they are still talking about him.
When he arrives on the 23rd floor, Viona is already waiting for him with a cold gaze.
“What took you so long?”
“Sorry!”
After that, Viona doesn't say anything else and immediately directs Victor to a room.
The room is quite spacious with a few other rooms inside it. There is also a green open space like a balcony. The place looks more like a luxury apartment than an office.
And there is also a meeting room, where there are already several Counterbrand officials waiting for the arrival of the new president of the company.
“Please don't say anything later before I ask you to speak,” Viona reminds him before entering the room.
“Why? Don't tell me that my dad put me as the president here only as a puppet,” says Victor.
“I’ve told you. I’m no longer your babysitter. But please, we don't have enough time to discuss this at the moment!” Viona replies as she opens the door.
All the eyes have been on them even before they enter the room. Since there’s only a glass wall separating that room from the main room. Their faces look so uninspired when they realize the arrival of Viona and Victor. It is obvious they have been so tired of waiting for so long.
Everyone in the room doesn't recognize Victor at all. They all stare curiously at him. Of course their reaction immediately changes when Viona introduces Victor to them as The President Of Counterbrand.
Viona intends to talk about all of Victor's great achievements and track record so far. But in reality, there is almost nothing she can say about it.
“Graduated from Purdue University with nothing special in his record, except for his experience running errands around the town delivering pizza for 5 years. But from now on, he is The President Of Counterbrand.”
Some seem able to maintain their composure as professionals. But some of them put on a frown face. Some also shake their heads. Some even openly voice their displeasure.
“Hey, Viona! Are you putting up a stand-up comedy here?” asks someone.
“Did you find it funny, Mr. Liam? If so, you don't need to hold your laughter. I'm sure he is not going to be mad even if you laugh,” says Viona with a cold tone.
But the one laughing is actually the other man on the right side. He even accompanies his laughter with an exaggerated applause.
“Is this another Charles William’s joke? Hey, I don’t waste my 5 years in this company just watching this circus of yours. Are you serious about all this, Viona?”
“Yes!” replies Viona composedly
Suddenly, that man raises his hands as if to pound the table. However, it is immediately detained, because of his fear of Charles William's influence.
But he still can’t help but feeling annoyed, because he feels that he has wasted his time at the company for these 5 years.
“Five years! You are wasting my 5 years by giving this ship to an amateur captain…”
“Talking with a pirate theme now, huh? If you mind, you may leave the ship, Mr. Camilo. I will be happy to prepare a lifeboat to take you to the nearest port,” replies Viona.
That man named Camilo is now grumbling, trying to hold his anger. In the end, he just takes his leave.
“I don't need it. I can help myself!”
After waiting for a moment, Viona asks the others if there are still those who want to leave the meeting room. He even gives a warning to those who decide to stay. “Mr. Charles wouldn't mind if anyone opted out now. But whoever later chooses to stay, after that they will not be allowed to leave this ship.” One of them raises his hand like he wants to ask something. “At least, tell us first the reason behind all this. Why did Charles choose this obscure person to lead this company?” “I have no obligation to answer that question. If you mind, you can leave. We still have a lot of people who can replace all the positions here,” says Viona. That one who expressed that question immediately takes his leave. And after that, another two also choose to leave the room as well. Until finally, there are only 7 people in the room besides Viona and Victor left. “Anyone? After this, there is no option for you to leave anymore,” says Viona. The seven people don’t give any answers. Two of them a
Victor leaves the meeting. None of those executives voice their objections either. Except for Viona, who immediately rushes after Victor to the next room. “Hey, Victor! Where are you going?” Victor answers her as he keeps walking out of the room and heads to the elevator. “Sorry, I have a problem that I need to solve immediately. If I don’t clear this issue, that Mr. Benigno will be mad at me. Even though he's just a pizza shop owner, some say he has a connection with some mafia.” But then Victor pauses for a moment right after he touches a button on the elevator, realizing that he doesn’t have enough money to pay his debt to Mr. Benigno. He has two bank accounts. The one he has used since his college day, which is money he collects by himself. While the other bank account is the money he got solely from his father, William Charles, one of the richest businessmen in the country. He has saved a stellar amount of money since he rarely used it in the past. However, his father had pu
Oftentimes, people will realize the existence value of something, only after they lose it. Just like Mr. Benigno, who is now beginning to feel the loss of a reliable employee like Victor. Regardless of how often he scolded Victor, the truth is that Victor had worked for him for five years should mean something to him. Actually, he has found a replacement for Victor. But it makes him realize it even more, how difficult it is to find an employee as good as Victor. After all, where else could he find a graduate from a renown university, who would want to work for him as a pizza delivery man. “Told you! You are going to miss him. A man like him is such a rare nowadays,” says a waiter teasing Mr. Benigno. “Shut up! Why don't you just go out there and teach that new kid a thing or two,” Mr. Benigno shouts back as he walks away. He returns to his office, grabs the phone, and tries to call Victor again. But Victor doesn’t answer his call. It makes that fat Italian man with a thick mustac
Meanwhile, Emma is currently in a dilemma. Even though she had divorced from Victor, she isn’t even Lucas' legal wife yet. And somehow, Lucas seems so reluctant to bring her to live with him at his house along with his family. And he has no intention to find a place for Emma to stay for the time being. Instead, Lucas prefers to seek help, hiring a locksmith to open the door for Emma, so she can get back into the house where she lived with Victor. “You sure this is your house?” the locksmith asks. “Why don’t you just ask that old lady neighbor?” says Emma. The locksmith glances a bit to the house next door, and indeed there is an old lady, Mrs. Greta, who is busy watering her little garden. Seeing that the old lady doesn’t really concern about them, the locksmith is quite sure that the clients he is serving currently are not thieves. After all, he is just lazy to bother to make sure of it. And so, he just unlocks the house for them. After being able to enter the house, Emma shows
She picks and examines them, both the ring and the box. She might not be an expert to judge a jewelry item. But she starts to doubt that it is a fake ring. Only after she finds the name “Johnson’s Pleasantry” under the box, she is affirmed that the ring can’t be a fake item. Johnson’s Pleasantry is a renowned jewelry shop in the town where Victor visited before to buy that item. The shop is very popular amongst couples who want to get married. It is known for their validity and good reputation in selling jewelry that is specifically for weddings. “There’s no way Johnson’s Pleasantry would sell a fake ring to people who are going to get married,” she mutters with widened eyes. Emma puts her shoes back on, and rushes out of the house with the ring. She locks the door and pulls out her cell phone to call Lucas back. She thinks it would be better to go with Lucas than to book a taxi with her own money. Or maybe to help her to sell the ring with the best price she could get. But then
She indeed expected that a jewel from Johnson’s Pleasantry would be expensive. But she never expected it to be that expensive. “A Million?” she mumbles by holding her head with one hand, while the other hand is trying to keep her balance by finding something to hold. “So? Did it enough to surprise you, Mam? I’m also happy for you to have such a good husband like him,” says the owner. “No! This is too much. I expected it would be expensive. But 1 Million dollars is too much.” It attracts the attention of the few customers who happen to be there. But Emma doesn’t pay that much attention. She still can’t imagine how Victor managed to collect that much money to buy that ring. That’s when she remembers about Victor having two bank accounts. All this time, Victor only used one of his bank accounts. But Emma never paid much attention about the other one, since she believed it wouldn’t be much different. After all, what would she expect from a husband who had only been a pizza delivery m
It’s not that she can’t sell the ring at all. It’s just that the shop owner is just reluctant to rebuy the item back, since he is a bit dubious with Emma. He is afraid of the risk of buying a stolen jewel.“I’m truly sorry, Mam. I’m afraid you still need to discuss this thing with your husband again. He is the only one who can sell this item to us. At the end of the day, I believe your husband will insist for you to accept the gift,” says the shop owner.Emma is getting impatient, and carelessly forces herself to get the shop owner to buy the item again.“Can't you just recreate that appraisal document? I'm willing to drop the price even more to compensate whatever process you were telling me just now,” she insists. The shop owner squints his eyes with a suspicious gaze. Now he is really starting to doubt Emma's testimonials for being Victor's wife.“Mam, I'm afraid that I have to call for the police now,” he says.Emma is petrified to hear him mentioning the police. But she still insi
Emma pushes the button to answer the call and takes the phone to her ear. But the shop owner immediately snatches the phone. [Emma! Did you enter my house recently?] The shop owner becomes curious with that kind of question. He holds the phone with his palm, and takes it away from his face. “Is this really your husband?” the shop owner asks Emma. “He is my husband!” Emma answers so slowly, not wanting her words to be heard by Victor through the phone. The shop owner squints his eyes with an even more suspicious gaze. He puts back the phone to his ear and starts talking to Victor directly. “Is this really Mr. Victor William?” he asks. [Yes, I’m Victor William. Who is this? Where’s Emma?] “Mr. William. This is Johnson Bermer, the owner of Johnson’s Pleasantry. I’m the one who served you here yesterday.” The shop owner finds that Victor is silent for a while. Of course, he is a bit curious what Emma’s doing at Johnson’s Pleasantry. That’s when he remembers about the ring that he
