Chapter Ninety nine

It was Riya standing with her eyes red and wet with tears.

He pulled her gently into the room and made her sit on the bed. He looked at her face but she moved her gaze away not sure of what to say to him.

"Riya, are you okay?"

His voice was low but loud enough for her to hear.

She blinked her eyes severally wiping the tear that was rolling down her chin.

She had been blaming herself for not being able to talk Amelia out of the idea of going to search for her mother against her father's wish.

She was imagining how Amelia would be roaming New York alone making herself pry to bad guys in the street.

"I should have stopped her, Maxwell. I knew she was making plans to go to find her mother but I took it too lightly. Too lightly and look now she's gone."

Riya's voice was very low and weak. She broke into another round of shading tears while Maxwell stared at her in silence.

He was trying to process how the situation at hand pointed to her as guilty but even her explanation did not grant him
