Chapter 2: The Catch

Freddy stares at his grandfather speechless when his brother's voice interrupts him.

“Freddy I’m back, I bought some sandwiches. Is that ok?” Ted asked.

“I will teach you all you need to know when Ted goes to school.” His grandfather quickly added before Freddy left for the living room.

While in the living room Freddy was puzzled and Ted noticed but thought it was because of their grandfather’s current state.

“Honestly I am scared too.” Ted added.

Freddy realizing his emotions were evident on his face, changed his facial expression.

“Don't be Ted, now that I am here I will do my best to get him better.” Freddy added to lighten Ted's spirit.

“I should go to school. I haven't been able to go for a while now because of grandpa.” Ted said as he finished his last piece of sandwich waiting for Fred's approval.

“Yeah you should.” Freddy replied.

Ted took his bag and left.

After breakfast Freddy went back to Mr. Louis' room to see how he is doing. He thought for a while that his grandfather might be delusional.

“I know what you are thinking and no I am not mad.” Mr. Louis said all of a sudden as he noticed Freddy's presence in the room.

Freddy, realizing his grandpa was awake, moved closer to him. “I don't think you are mad, I just don't get what you were talking about.

“Freddy it's high time you know. When I was 18 my father and I went to an old meadow at Libe, southside close to Ganule river.

He was a fisherman, so he was teaching me how to fish. I ran into some woman who needed help.

She then asked me to give her some fish from what I caught, although I was a bit hesitant I gave her regardless. She then looked at me with a smile and asked me

“Do you believe in angels?” I was shocked by her question but I did say yes.

She then said to me that there is a way to heal people with the natural environment.

“Just like fishing takes time and calculation it is the same as finding a cure to various illnesses. How nice would it be if someone could do that.” She added before looking up to the sky, She blessed me then left.

“My father started to call out to me and asked me where I had been but when I turned back to look for the woman she was already gone.” Freddy was too stunned to speak.

He had questions in his mind and wasn't sure at this point if his grandfather’s mental health was ok.

But before Freddy could say anything, Mr. Louis took his hand and stabbed it. Freddy screamed in surprise.

“Heal it, you can.” Mr. Louis said.

Freddy watched as his grandfather bled and was in a panic.

“Why did you do this?” Freddy asked, he started to look round the house for an antiperspirant.

“Freddy! Heal it!” His grandfather shouted.

Freddy wondered what his grandfather wanted him to do.

“Stretch out your hand and think of what you want to do.” Mr. Louis added.

Freddy then obeyed his grandfather and did what he said.

All of a sudden he noticed that his grandfather's hands actually started to heal. Freddy started to freak out.

“Concentrate Freddy, it won't work if your mind and soul is distracted, you have to be calm.” Mr. Louis added.

Freddy then tried not to Freak out too much even though he was still scared until the injury was completely healed.

Freddy stared at both the man's hand and face at intervals before falling to the floor.

“What did I just do now?” He said, baffled. “

“That was what I was talking about.” Mr Louis said as he chuckled.

“But how on earth….”

“I was also shocked. Freddy you seem to have inherited it. I noticed it when you were 18. You once had an injury which you healed in your sleep.” Louis interrupted.

“What about Ted, does he have it too?” Freddy asked curiously.

“That is what still baffles me Freddy, he doesn't, neither did your mum.

I think you inherited it because of your passion for health. I also had that passion when I was younger.” Mr. Louis said.

“You were chosen for a reason. You will have to learn how to use these powers because there's not much time left. I don't have time anymore.” He added.

“But grandpa, why can't you just heal yourself with these abilities?” Freddy asked, confused.

“I think my time is truly up this time Freddy. The truth is we can heal others but can't really heal ourselves.

The strange lady I met also told me the more I use the ability the more we can't be healed.

I have used these powers over the years to provide for both you and your brother. I can't continue to use it anymore besides I am very old now I can't cheat death.

I need you to learn how to use it now so you can continue.” He added before coughing.

“Let's go outside.” He said, leading Freddy to a garden area. “We will be taking our lessons here,” He said, pointing towards the small garden.

“It will take a week or so..”

“But grandpa, I still have to go back to work.” Freddy said a bit worried about his work.

“I advise you to quit. You will be working solo from now on.” Mr. Louis responded.

Freddy, surprised by his grandfather's response, just stared at him.

By the week Freddy had gotten a basic understanding of how to use the power.

“Freddy thanks for staying.” Ted said one Friday afternoon.

“Of course , don't worry grandpa will get better.” Freddy added.

Ted smiled without any worries before getting interrupted by a sudden knock on the door.

“Who could that be?” Freddy asked Ted.

“I have no idea,” He he replied.

Freddy got up from the chair and headed for the door.

As soon as he opened it, he saw two young ladies looking stressed, tired and desperate.

“Please, does Mr. Louis reside here?” one of them asked.

“And what if he does?” Freddy asked, wondering what they wanted.

“We need to speak to him. It's really urgen

t as a matter of fact it's a matter of life and death.” The second girl added.

“Come in.” Freddy said with a stern voice.
