Chapter #15: Creating the First Purification Pill

Tian Fan was delighted by Elder Liubei's offer to join the Sun Sect, but he declined it for now. He wanted to continue seeking experiences beyond the sect, just as he had in the Red Forest, where he had gained a lot of valuable experience honing his skills.

Elder Liubei understood Tian Fan's desire and was willing to wait for him to join the Sun Sect. He eagerly anticipated the day Tian Fan would return, knowing that he would mature even more after his adventures outside.

Tian Fan treated Xi Shi's injuries as Elder Liubei had requested. Xi Shi, in turn, apologized to Tian Fan and asked for his help.

Seven days passed, and Sun Li's condition had greatly improved, as had Xi Shi's. During this time, Tian Fan showed Elder Liubei the process of creating his own herbal concoctions and pills, and Elder Liubei reciprocated by demonstrating the purification of pills.

Elder Liubei summoned a furnace from his storage ring and placed several medicinal plants inside before initiating the purification process. He explained the purification process in great detail to Tian Fan.

Tian Fan observed the purification of the qi-filling pills closely, using his heightened senses. Suddenly, he entered a meditative state. Seeing this, Elder Liubei smiled broadly, wondering if Tian Fan was experiencing enlightenment.

Elder Liubei continued to watch Tian Fan during his meditation. As Tian Fan meditated, a black aura began to emanate, sometimes small and at other times expanding. Red qi concentrated in his hands.

In his meditative state, Tian Fan subconsciously repeated the process of making pills dozens of times, based on what he had learned from Elder Liubei. He had performed hundreds of experiments in his subconscious.

While his subconscious mind was busy with these experiments, his conscious mind calculated success percentages and other factors related to pill creation.

Tian Fan opened his eyes and smiled happily, while Elder Liubei continued to observe him closely.

"Elder, may I borrow your furnace? I'd like to try some things I've learned," Tian Fan requested.

"Of course, young one. Take your time. But do you possess soul power? Purifying pills requires soul power for separating impurities and forming the pills," Elder Liubei inquired.

"It seems I do, Elder," Tian Fan replied.

Elder Liubei didn't ask further questions, even though he doubted Tian Fan's claim. Soul power usually developed when one entered the Earth Realm, and nurturing it was not easy. It required mental balance and strong focus to stabilize soul power. That's why there were only a few alchemists on the continent, and even fewer in the Eastern region, with most only reaching the third level, Alchemist of Gold.

Elder Liubei allowed Tian Fan to attempt it, at least for the experience.

Tian Fan began his experiment, heating the furnace with a charcoal stove typically used for preparing medicinal herbs. He then focused on gathering qi in his hands, creating a red aura throughout his palms. This red qi heated the furnace quickly. When he believed the furnace had reached an ideal temperature, Tian Fan added the herbal ingredients for the qi-filling pill.

Tian Fan had made herbal powders from medicinal plants many times before, so he was familiar with their characteristics. When heated to the right temperature, medicinal plants released their essence without leaving any residue.

Tian Fan merged the essence of the three medicinal plants using his soul power. His hands moved swiftly around the surface of the furnace, and then he increased the furnace's heat to initiate the pill's compaction.

Elder Liubei, who had initially doubted Tian Fan's abilities, was astonished by his method of pill-making. While it was different from his own technique, it was surprisingly straightforward.

What amazed Elder Liubei even more was that Tian Fan's method successfully purified the pills. Elder Liubei sensed that pills had formed within the furnace.

Tian Fan used his qi to tap the furnace with both hands and commanded, "Condense!"

The furnace rumbled, and the sound of pills colliding within echoed. Tian Fan opened the furnace and retrieved seven milky-white pills from inside.

Elder Liubei immediately took one of the pills from Tian Fan's hand, his hand trembling as he examined it. "This... this is a Sky-level pill," he exclaimed in disbelief, based on what he saw.

Tian Fan, however, seemed slightly disappointed despite Elder Liubei's excitement. "Huff, it's still not quite there. It should have reached 90% effectiveness," he muttered softly but audibly enough for Elder Liubei to hear.

Elder Liubei felt like he might cough up blood upon hearing this. Tian Fan, despite successfully producing a pill on his first attempt, didn't consider it a success.

Elder Liubei himself had only achieved purification after three years of learning, and it was typically a very difficult feat. It required a strong mental balance and focused thoughts to cultivate soul power effectively.

Elder Liubei decided to let Tian Fan continue experimenting, recognizing the value of experience. Tian Fan then approached Sun Li and Xi Shi, who were still surprised by what they had witnessed.

"Seniors, would you like to try the pills I've made?" Tian Fan asked.

Both of them nodded and took the qi-filling pills Tian Fan had created. Even Elder Liubei didn't hesitate to request one and give it a try.

All three were amazed as Tian Fan's pills were absorbed almost perfectly, leaving only minimal residue. Xi Shi, still in the process of healing, immediately began cultivating as Tian Fan's nearly pure pills accelerated her recovery.

After trying Tian Fan's pills, Elder Liubei, Sun Li, and Xi Shi praised his qi-filling pills.

"Ahem...young man... no, brother Tian Fan, congratulations on becoming a Level 1 Alchemist!" Elder Liubei exclaimed enthusiastically.

Sun Li and Xi Shi echoed the sentiment, congratulating Tian Fan.

Tian Fan simply smiled and scratched his non-itchy head.
