Chapter one

Give it your best Gill, shine those wheels, let them glitter”Anita Wellington gloated at him.

Gill just wanted to make extra cash to suffice his income.

He doubled up on several jobs just to meet up with the expectations of the Wellington’s family.

The insults, ridicule and resentment was getting out of hand.He has been made to believe over the years that the poor doesn’t deserve any self respect.

Here he is washing his sister inlaw’s car.

Maybe is karma or he is destined to lick the Wellington family’s butt all his life.

Gill,A high school chemistry teacher by day and a car wash supervisor by night had only one wish in life.

To make the love of his life Nancy Wellington and her only daughter Nancy jr. happy and comfortable in this life.

“Nancy never told us you also wash cars” Anita said with a smirk on her face.

“Junior must be happy to have a dad like you”she said sarcastically.

Gill knew she was making fun of him as usual but he still replied her.”Nancy doesn’t know I do this,it’s just a side hustle to make extra cash besides I don’t do it everyday”

Anita laughed in mockery as she took a picture of Gill bending over to scrub her car wheels.”say

cheeezzz”she cheered at Gill, her camera lens clicked as Gill looked up to see what she was doing.

Anita got a vivid photo image of Gill, bending over her car wheels looking up to her as a servant would bow, looking up to a master.

it wasn’t the the kind of image any man would want her in-laws to have of him,he was dressed in rags, all sweaty and drenched in water, looking stressed.

Gill a tall Caucasian male,in his 30s was firmly built in masculine beauty with short hair and brown eyes,he was a kind gentleman with a tint of ruggedness but he always maintained his self control.

City central San Jose community knew him as that kind easy going man,who loved his wife and daughter ,but wasn’t accepted by the in-laws because he was poor.

“You this lazy and useless man, this car is not sparkling clean,I will make sure you re-wash it”Anita expressed in a hash tone,as she stormed off to the manager’s office to complain.

“That’s it”

Carol yelled.she wasn’t going to take it anymore.

Gill’s mother in-law has had enough of him and his problems.

Nancy called her on phone telling her how bad Junior’s health has become.

They didn’t have much time anymore to save their daughter Nancy jr.

Junior’s heart was fast failing and there was no money to proceed with the life saving heart surgery she needed.

Right from the moment Carol parked her car at the lawn in front the house, the tranquility and serenity of the small brick coloured three bedroom apartment which Gill and Nancy lived in disappeared.

It was like a cloud of negative energy rovered around Gill’s head.

He knew the barrage of insults was on the way.

lately his in-laws has been on his case especially the mother in-law Carol.

“You this poverty stricken man,you are a drag to my daughter,I will make sure you leave my daughter alone”.Carol was furious that Gill couldn’t afford the hospital bill needed to save the life of her grand daughter.

It was as if Gill brought the heart issue on their daughter Nancy jr,everyone seemed to blame him for the situation.

“You are such a deficient man,you can’t even take care of your family, look at your daughter, you gave her a bad heart, you suck in basically everything, even biologically you are a failure, your genes are not good, you can’t be a Wellington in-law”Carol clamoured.

Gill felt bad,was he responsible for her daughters illness?

He loved his daughter Nancy jr.

No father would want any thing bad for his own child.

His daughter was the only human that loved him without reservations.

In all his wishes he would want the best life for his daughter.

“I warned Nancy to let you go,but she wouldn’t listen, now look at it …..you couldn’t even give her healthy genes for her babies.you are no man,she is as good as not having a man,she is alone.”Carol cried out.

Gill was hurt to the marrows, but there was nothing he could say, even if he told her he had plans,it would only be a waste of time, and she would ridicule him more.

Nancy reached for the piles of medical reports they got from the last hospital visit they did with their daughter.

Going through the reports and the amount of money needed to treat their daughter.

She felt helpless.

Nancy junior is a total replica of her mother, beautiful, lovely little girl.

Her third birthday is around the corner but no one is talking about that because the little is battling with her life.

Little Nancy junior was recently diagnosed of an anomaly in the heart.

After series of tests and scans, doctors found that Nancy jr had an irregular heart shape, her heart had a little hole by the arterial ventricle end.

Hence the heart pains the little girl always had.

They needed more than five hundred thousand dollars to save their daughters life.

She was lost in thoughts.

“Hello honey”Gill called out to his lovely wife Nancy.

Even in her downcast mood she was still beautiful and charming, after all she was a very beautiful woman, average height, long curly hair with well rounded and curvy Hispanic stature which she got from her mum.

Gill held her palms feeling her soft nurtured skin and suddenly realizing how lucky he was to have such a woman by his side even though he wasn’t rich.

“You don’t have to worry Nan,I will get us the money we need to pay for junior’s treatment” He uttered.

“Where can you get such amount of money?Gill”

Nancy asked,looking at him.

I know you don’t have half a million US dollars.

“What do we do?”she asked.

Nancy loved Gill or atleast was in love with Gill at some point in their lives, but love wasn’t all that was needed to keep their marriage, she deserved a more capable man she thought to herself, after all she was a very beautiful woman and every grown and capable man in San Jose would want her.

“You don’t even have a decent job Gill”she said.i don’t mean to taunt you but this is why my family doesn’t want you around me.

How can a woman my status be with a man that doesn’t make up to fifteen thousand dollars in a year.

“Am calling it a quit Gill”.

“Am sorry I can’t continue living like this”Nancy voiced.

As she stood up from the couch leaving a downcasted Gill gazing at her.

“Na Naaan”Gill opened his mouth but there were no words to express his feelings, his mouth was open but words were not coming out.

Even him,was tired of his situation.

“Nan,please don’t give up on us,we will get over these challenges.

I will get the money for the surgery,I will Change our standard of living,I will do anything you want,I will,I will…too many words came out of his mouth at the same time..

Gill never stopped believing in himself.

Despite how people around him saw him,he was strong and firm.

He believed he can make it all good.

He believed what he needed was just time.

He has never felt this sad and alone in his life, his world was falling apart.

He was loosing his Family.

His daughter was dying,

His wife was leaving him.

What will he do?

Nancy was out of her league if not for the government scholarship he couldn’t have met Nancy at the university as he couldn’t afford the fees.
