The phone messages

He immediately lost the ability to breathe for a second. He recalled two nights back when Stella came back, complaining about how her waist was hurting,

“Should I run you a bath and massage your body when you’re done?” He asked.

“Yes! Don’t let the water be too hot. Mix it well,” she nagged.

After Mike prepared the bath for her, she entered the bathroom, leaving her phone behind. Numerous messages popped on her phone screen.

“I hope you enjoyed today. Next time, we’d go on for hours,” He read when suddenly, Stella dragged her phone from behind.

“Why are you looking through my phone?” She asked, arching her brows.

“Who was that?” Mike asked. He couldn’t comprehend her text.

“That was my colleague at work. We were paired to do a project together,” she said and hissed before taking her phone to the bathroom.

Snapping back into the present, he asked in a low voice, “How long has this been going on?” Stella didn’t respond.

“Was it Williams that sent you that text two days ago?” He asked and instead of Stella, Williams responded,

“Isn’t it obvious? The moment I got back to town and called your wife, she came running to me! I knew she was married but still, I wanted to have a taste, and trust me, she’s more sweet than I remembered the last three years,

His words enraged Mike. He bit his lips, trying to control himself, but it seemed almost impossible as Stella said nothing to counter what Williams words.

“Stella, respond to me yourself! How long have this been going on?” Mike asked again, causing Stella to hiss.

“It’s not like I cheated on you, Mike; you never gave me a reason to stay committed to you… what did you give to me? Huh?” she said, trying to defend herself.

“How long Stella?” Mike asked again in anger.

“Since he came back from abroad. He got me to many fancy things, things that you could never afford even if you save for eternity for it. You’re so poor Mike,” She sneered, causing Mike’s jaw to drop in disbelief.

“Are you satisfied now?” Williams asked but Mike didn’t respond,

Williams spanked Stella’s ass and said, “Come on baby, let’s go inside” Unable to watch Williams win, Mike stopped him and punched his face hard before pushing him to the wall, he clutched his fist tightly and raised it, about to punch him again,

Thud! Suddenly, he felt a great deal of pain in his head. Like he was hit with an object. He gazed down to see pieces of glass on the ground before turning to his side to see Stella holding a broken wine bottle.

“You hit me?” He asked, surprised.

“Don’t you dare ask me such a question!” she warned. “I don’t know what you’re still doing in this hotel! Just face it that you don’t belong here and go. If you had left when Williams asked you to, then this wouldn’t have happened,” she said.

Stella bent down and helped Williams up, “Argh” He winced in pain, causing her to look up at Mike before glaring at him.

“Now, you’ve seen who she loves more, right?” Williams said with a sly smile on his face; he wrapped his hand around Stella’s waist and turned to face her before shoving a few strands of her hair to the back of her ear. He leaned closer to her, and slowly, their lips touched.

“S... Stella” Mike stuttered. He couldn’t believe his eyes. Feeling completely disappointed, Mike turned to leave when he heard Stella call his name, “Mike...” she uttered. He couldn’t face her, so he just stood there waiting for her to state her reason for stopping him.

Suddenly, something small hit Mike’s back and then bounced to the ground. Mike followed the sound of the tiny object hitting the ground and slowly gazed down as his eyes fell on the ring he gave to her.

“Take your stupid ring and get lost,” Stella sneered. The ring was the only thing Mike had when the orphanage found him and took him from the streets.

“It's probably a very cheap ring! I don't wear things that aren't expensive, I'm no longer in that level” She added

Williams slowly closed the door as he whispered to Stella, “Poor thing, he looks like a dejected dog,” Mike sighed. Realizing that there was no reason to stay, he bent down to pick up the ring,

“Argh,” He growled and squatted, finding it hard to stand. He took his hand up to his head to touch where he felt the impact of the bottle.

“Ow!” He winced in pain, biting his lips so hard they almost bled as he clutched his fist and struggled to stand upright.

Mike stumbled and walked into the lift. Recalling Stella and William’s insults, he sniffed and tried wiping off the tears that welled up in his eyes.

Bringing his hand down, his eyes fell on a mixture of blood and tears; the bloodstains were all over his forehead.

“You’re so poor, and I can’t spend my life with someone like you. I never loved you,” Stella’s words echoed in his ear as he got down from the lift. He started feeling dizzy, and the pain he felt in his head increased by every second.

Mike exited the hotel with his hand on his head. He needed immediate medical attention but had money for it

As Mike staggered towards a street, unaware of where he was going or where he was. Suddenly, the light of a moving vehicle flashed in his eyes, “Oh no!” Mike muttered, realizing that it was too late to get out of the way.

“Shit,” the driver cussed as he swerved the car on the road, trying to avoid hitting Mike, but unfortunately, the car knocked Mike down, causing him to fall unconscious.
