Chapter 6: A Change

Chapter 6: A Change

“Of course I’m ready!” Steve said it with an excited tone that was clearly visible in his brown eyes. “For a million dollars, I’ll do anything,” he added with a small smile etched on his lips.

Terry smiled a little at Steve’s eager demeanor. At least he wouldn’t have to worry too much about the “missing link” if Steve cooperated with him. It shortened the work he was doing.

“Why are you so ambitious to earn a lot of money?” Terry asked.

“Because I want to prove to them that I can also be successful like them,” there was an angry tone that Terry heard in Steve’s voice. The man in the black hoodie didn’t comment much and chose to be a listener.

“Alright. Since you’ve agreed to work with us, you should stay here,” Ben suggested as he closed his laptop. He stretched his aching body.

“Okay.”

Steve accepted the offer. He slept together with Terry on the bed, while Ben himself chose to sleep on the sofa. The three of them slept peacefully while waiting for tomorrow.

By 9 a.m., all three men were awake. Terry showered first, followed by Steve. And lastly, Ben, because he was hard to wake up.

“Since there is no suitable food for breakfast in this place, how about we look for it outside?” Terry suggested it after finishing dressing.

“I agree.”

The three of them walked out of the small alley to look for breakfast. However, on the way, Terry pulled him into a salon. Steve, whose leg was still recovering, could not rebel and was forced to go with the two men he had just met.

“Why are we here, Terry?” Asked Steve, half protesting to the brothers. His eyes squinted in annoyance with pouting lips. He felt cheated by the man, who was smaller than him.

Steve rolled his eyes lazily as the salon staff cut his hair so painstakingly. His brown eyes glanced at Terry and Ben, who were playing with their mobile phones on the sofa in the salon.

Feeling summoned, Terry turned to Steve with a faint smile. He immediately refocused on his mobile phone and spoke in a watery tone.

“Because you need it,”

The lightness in Terry’s voice somehow irritated Steve. The shabbily dressed man’s hands were clenched into tight fists. He didn’t like being played like this by others. Daniel was the one he hated for always being mean to him.

“What do you mean?” Steve raised his eyebrows, feeling clueless about what the man in the black hoodie was talking about.

“We’re going to infiltrate the Griffin family residence, right?” I asked Ben, who chimed in after getting bored with the game he was playing.

The man with heterochromia eyes drank the drink he had brought from “home” before entering this salon. “We can’t go in if you look like this.”

“I don’t understand what you’re talking about. Can you explain to me in a more understandable language?”

Steve said it in a slightly higher tone than before. He was offended by Ben’s words. His jaw tightened involuntarily. Were these two men mocking his appearance? Or underestimating her?

Terry let out a long sigh at Steve’s tone. The man immediately took off the hoodie he was wearing, revealing a muscular body with perfectly formed muscles. He sat on the chair beside Steve. “Please paint my hair red,” he asked one of the salon staff.

The hairdresser nodded and went to work. Terry closed his eyes briefly before looking at his reflection in the mirror in front of him.

“Ben’s point is, we can’t go in if you still look the same as before. We’ll get caught if you don’t change your appearance,” Terry said in a quiet tone, but he also looked so authoritative, like a leader.

“Aren’t we going to infiltrate there? If you’re still like this, it’s the same as looking dead,” Terry continued with a slight gasp. This was the first time he had spoken at length to someone to explain what they should do. And this was certainly out of the ordinary for him.

“So, we brought you here to make some kind of change for the sake of disguise. Not to patronize or ridicule you, Steve,” Ben continued.

The heterochrome-eyed man went back to his mobile phone to find a good game to play while waiting for Terry and Steve to finish with their makeover.

Steve’s temper instantly dropped at the reasonable explanation. His hands were open again, not clenched like before. Also, the look in his eyes was not as sharp as before.

“So, I misunderstood you?” Steve asked himself. The man was embarrassed by the fact that he had misinterpreted someone’s words. “I apologize for that.”

“Forgiven. Now, we have to change your appearance first before taking action. Change your hair color too so that you won’t be spotted when we infiltrate later,” Terry suggested as he fiddled with his phone, typing something on the electronic device.

Steve thought for a moment. He felt it would be a shame to change his hair color at this time. Moreover, he still remembered that Minji really liked his black hair color. Minji once said that Steve was very handsome with the color of his hair.

But because of the situation, he had to decide before he regretted it later.

“I’ve decided.” Steve paused for a moment and looked at his reflection in the mirror. “I want to change my hair color to dark purple.”

“Wow, what a bold choice,” commented Ben, who had been listening all along.

Ben patted her hand gently. He glanced at the salon staff, who had finished cutting Steve’s hair, with a meaningful smile. “Do it the way he wants it. Make him a different person that no one can recognize, Samantha,” Ben ordered.

“Sure, Ben.” Samantha gave him a faint smile, then took two colors of hair dye and mixed them together in one container. “You’ll be happy with my work. You know the rules with me, right?”

“Yeah, of course.” Terry, who was focused on typing, took the time to chime in at Samantha’s confident-sounding words. “You’ve always been a professional at work, Samantha.”

“You’ve got me, Terry.” Samantha started painting Steve’s hair slowly, according to the man’s wishes.

Steve glanced at Terry with the corner of his eye. “You know this girl, Terry?”

“Sure. I know Samantha very well.”

“Oh really?” Steve was a little surprised by that answer. Because Samantha was a beautiful girl that he had just seen. She had a beautiful European face. Her skin was milky white, with sexy lips that were so seductive. “How do you know her?”

“Samantha was my senior in college,” Terry replied briefly.

“Ah, I see.” Steve gave a small nod as he didn’t want to disturb the focus of Samantha, who was painting her hair. “And you still maintain your relationship so well? Wow, I’m quite impressed.”

“Thanks, Steve. You’re too—“

“Actually, Terry is still on good terms with Samantha because he likes her sister,” Ben interrupted mischievously. The man chuckled when he saw the blush on Terry’s face.

“Hey, that’s not true,” Terry snapped in defiance. His tone was nervous and awkward, unlike before, when he was calm and charismatic. “I’m just friends with Miya. Nothing more than that.”

“You can’t deny it, Terry,” Samantha chimed in with a teasing tone. “If you like my sister, just say it. Don’t be shy.” Terry didn’t answer the teasing and chose to occupy himself with reading the magazine in front of him. The man felt embarrassed.

Steve chuckled at Terry’s behavior, which looked so funny. “Ah, I finally see the point of your relationship with Samantha, Terry. You do have a point,” Steve teased.

“Don’t tease me, or I’ll break your legs,” Terry threatened irritably.

Instead of being scared, Steve teased him even more with that annoying grin etched on his handsome face. “If you like it, just go ahead, Terry. When she’s with someone else, you’ll regret it.”

“I said shut up!”

Everyone in the salon just chuckled at Terry’s embarrassed demeanor. They continued to tease and taunt him.

About an hour later, Terry and Steve’s hair was done. Steve was amazed at his new look. He touched his now dark purple hair with an incredulous look, surprised at himself for making such a big decision.

“Are you satisfied?” asked Terry, also satisfied with his fiery red hair.

“Yes, of course.” Steve smiled slightly. “But isn’t this not enough to hide her identity when she enters the Griffin residence later?

“Of course it’s not enough,” Ben replied, and he glanced at Samantha, who was ready with a large cardboard box in her hands. She quickly deposited the box on the floor.

“To complete your disguise, you use everything in that box.”

Steve immediately crouched down and opened the box. His eyes widened in disbelief when he saw what was there.

“Are you sure you want me to use this, Ben?”
