Harry was seated all alone in the cold detention room, still trying to understand what he had done wrong to have Hailey treat him in such a despicable manner when Hailey and her parents, Theresa and Sylvester Riven, entered into the detention room, the looks on their faces showing nothing but disdain and bitterness.

Hailey had called them to tell them that William had threatened to call off the deal concerning the Moxley’s Partnership Initiative, and it had made them really angry. The fact that Harry was not helping out with saving the business which was falling apart, and now about making them lose the only opportunity left to save it, had really fueled up their anger, and they were ready to have the marriage annulled once and for all.

"Why are you doing this, Hailey? What did I do to deserve such a cruel treatment from you?" Harry was the first to speak, but his question only ended up feeling Hailey's anger even more.

“Will you fucking shut up!” Hailey screamed, still seething with anger. “What have you been to me since we got married? Do you even have the slightest idea of what I've been going through trying to save my family's business?"

"Is that what this is all about?" Harry furrowed a brow.

"Yes, Harry! Yes!" Hailey screamed even louder. "You unashamedly parade yourself around, living off my family like a leech! I can't proudly introduce you to anyone as my husband and you're so comfortable living off my family’s wealth and it makes me sick,”

Harry was speechless as Hailey's words hit him like a ton of bricks. It wasn't as if he knew and did nothing about it. The Rivens have never involved him in the affairs of the company claiming he was incompetent. And this was his first time he was hearing that the business was struggling.

At that point, Harry couldn’t help but wish that Mr. Riven himself, was still alive. At that time, he was involved in the business and it wasn't struggling. But immediately Riven died, his in-laws had him dropped, and Hailey had told him that it was because she wasn't comfortable with him working as a casual worker in her family's business, and that it'd be better he took a job somewhere else.

He had agreed to it back then, but only now had he come to realize that it wasn't about him being a casual worker, it was because they wanted to get rid of him.

"O... Hailey," Harry stuttered, his mouth suddenly becoming too heavy to say a word.

"You know what?" Hailey interrupted him angrily. "If I had known that this is how useless you’d be to me, I wouldn't have gotten married to you in the first place."

Harry's eyes opened wide in disbelief hearing Hailey make such a statement. "What do you mean by that?"

"I married you because that was my grandfather’s condition before making me the CEO of Rivens Holdings—that I get married first. Since you were already a beneficiary of the Rivens Charity Foundation, I thought you’d be a nice match, but after we got married, I realized I had made the biggest mistake of my life.”

“So all those years….”

“Meant nothing Harry,” Hailey interrupted him. “I have been waiting for grandfather to die so I can finally get rid of you, and now that he’s no longer here, I really don’t need you anymore. So, sign the divorce papers and let us forget the fact that we were ever married.”

Harry's eyes welled up with tears as he begged Hailey not to divorce him, promising to work hard, even harder than he was already working.

"I'm sorry, Hailey, and I promise to do better. To be more hardworking. To help in whatsoever way I can to help the family," Harry began to apologize. "If it'll take me to do more multiple jobs, I'll do it. But please don't divorce me," Harry fell on his knees.

At that point, it didn't matter anymore if he was the one who had been offended–the one who was cheated on. He just couldn't stand being divorced from Hailey owing to the fact that he really loved her so much.

Hailey and her parents exchanged incredulous glances, seeing how pathetic Harry was already looking. Merely looking at him, Hailey couldn't bring herself to believe that she had been married to Harry for the past two years of her life, but now, she was ready to end it once and for all.

"You're ready to work real hard you say, right?" She asked, a sly smile tugged at the corners of her lips.

"Yes, I am," Harry nodded. "As hard as I can."

"How hard can you work to secure my family a spot in the Moxley’s Partnership Initiative?"

Harry blinked severally. He didn't have an answer for Hailey's question because there was no way he could help her secure a spot in the Moxley’s Partnership Initiative.

As a matter of fact, it was the first time he was hearing about the partnership initiative and, coming from the table of the Moxley, the most powerful family in the country, Harry knew that was a 'no–go–area' for him.

"See?" Hailey sneered. "There's nothing you can do to help my family. So, just sign these divorce papers and let's forget about all these." She handed over the documents to Harry once again, attaching a pen to it this time around, to make it easier for him.

Harry looked at Hailey, with the papers she was stretching towards him. "Please, Hailey. Don't do this. I'm begging..."

"Will you just sign those goddamn papers and call it a close?" Hailey's father, Sylvester retorted angrily.

With a cold glare, Theresa also warned Harry that if he didn't sign the divorce papers, they would ensure that he was locked away indefinitely.

Trapped, and out of options, Harry took the papers from Hailey, his hands trembling as he did. He tried as much as possible to fight back the tears that were about betraying his eyelids.

"Take this," Hailey handed over the pen to him, looking away as she waited patiently for him to pen down his signature and have their marriage finally annulled.

Reluctantly, and with a heavy heart, Harry signed the divorce papers, effectively severing his three years marriage with Hailey.

As he handed over the papers to Hailey, he noticed the triumphant smile that tugged at the corners of her lips and that broke his heart even more.

"Thank you," Hailey said, as she put the divorce papers back into the brown envelope. “Goodbye Harry, and thanks for being a wonderful pawn in my chess game. But I’m sorry, this is where you belong,”

The officers came, and dragged Harry away as they finally locked him up in one of the cells waiting for further instructions from William Robertson.
