"Mr. Shadow?" Harper murmured, barely audible, as she turned her head toward the ninja figure emerging from the darkness in the corner—a figure far from unfamiliar to her. She knew that with the ninja’s advanced camouflage technique, detecting his presence was nearly impossible, even for a level 20 cultivator.

"B-but..." she muttered again, shifting her gaze toward Marc. "H-how could he possibly know?"

Someone at level 10 detecting Shadow’s presence? Impossible!

It wasn’t just Harper—everyone in the room displayed the same astonishment and disbelief on their faces. Even the expert jewelers present had no idea when Shadow had arrived. Yet, this young man needed only a few seconds to sense the ninja’s presence.

"Who exactly is he?" they all wondered, unable to take their eyes off Marc.

While the others stood speechless, trying to process what was happening, Marc clenched his fists tightly, his gaze locked onto the ninja. Back at The White Lotus Monastery, his highly sensitive nose had p

"I spent money to obtain that box," Alistair pointed towards the table, speaking with a wide grin on his lips and eyes gleaming with cunning and pride, as if he had just won a competition. "So where exactly is my mistake?"The baron had never explicitly ordered Shadow to use excessive force against Tenzin, let alone commanded the ninja to kill him. However, he certainly didn't care what methods the ninja used as long as he got his hands on the box."Lord Everstone, everyone sees you as a man of principle, someone who upholds morality and stays on the righteous path." A mocking smirk played on Marc’s lips as he shifted his gaze to the baron. "But to me, you're nothing more than a selfish man who will do whatever it takes to get what he wants.""Huh, do you think I care about your opinion of me?" Alistair scoffed, shaking his head in clear disdain. "Say whatever nonsense you want. The fact remains, the box is mine now, and anyone who tries to take it must have a death wish.""Lord Evers

"Y-you insolent brat!" With a trembling voice, ignoring the pain in his ears, Shadow grabbed Marc's hand with one of his own. All this time, he had been a highly respected figure in this manor, second only to the baron himself. What this young man had done had shattered his reputation, and he would rather die than let that happen. However, as if it were an immovable iron clamp, the young man's hand did not budge in the slightest from his neck, no matter how much strength he exerted. Marc might have appeared relaxed, but his grip was like a colossal vice planted firmly into the earth."Damn it!" Shadow gritted his teeth, frustration and humiliation welling up in his heart. Unwilling to surrender so easily, he used both hands to once again try to pry Marc's hand from his throat."Watch this, I'll crush your filthy hand!" He growled, straining to pull Marc's hand in two different directions, intending to break it.Until now, no one had ever dared to attack h

"Young man, stop right now, or I'll show you what a baron is capable of!" Alistair shouted in rage and frustration as he watched Shadow's body convulse on the floor like a slaughtered animal. The baron couldn't afford to lose the ninja. Yet, faced with someone as formidable as Marc, he found himself at a loss for ways to intimidate him."Hah, do what you must." Grinning, Marc's grip remained firmly locked around Shadow’s neck, as if his decision was absolute. "That won’t stop me from giving this ninja the punishment he deserves.""You bastard! I said stop!" Alistair bellowed, his eyes desperate, his body trembling with fury. But his words no longer held the slightest intimidation over Marc.At that moment, the young man nearly increased the pressure of his grip again—enough to crush Shadow’s throat and kill him on the spot—when suddenly, a realization struck him."Wait, isn't this guy a member of the Dark Star Sect?" he thoug

"Is this the technique that Master once told me about?"Slowly, Shadow began to realize that the technique the young man was using against him was an illusion technique—a powerful mental technique that made him believe he was being attacked, even though in reality, nothing had touched his body. The ninja had never encountered anyone who wielded such a technique before, nor had he ever experienced it firsthand. However, one of the masters from Dark Star had once given him a fairly detailed explanation of this mysterious ability. At that moment, his mind flashed back to something he had heard ten years ago."There aren't many cultivators in the entire Lanshire Kingdom who possess a mind-controlling technique so strong that it makes you believe you are suffering immense pain, almost to the point of death, even though your body remains unscathed," the master had said at the time. "This technique does not attack the body but destroys the mind from within

"Huh, are you trying to extort me?" Marc scoffed, his eyes gleaming with menace. How could he possibly hand over money for something that didn't even belong to the baron?"If you break your promise, you know what the consequences will be, don't you?"To Alistair, Marc's voice suddenly echoed throughout the room, making the baron sink deeper into his fear."No! I would never do such a thing!" Despite the terror gripping his heart, Alistair stood firm in his stance."Don't think you can threaten me, let alone harm me." Trembling, cold sweat pouring down his face and body, Alistair spoke in a quivering voice, his eyes tightly shut. "I am a baron. If you cross the line, the entire royal army will hunt you down wherever you run.""You're threatening me?" Marc smirked, already fed up with the baron's arrogance. "Then let me show you that I can kill you without even lifting a finger."As he said this, Marc merely clenched his fist slightly. At that

"Damn it! He’s truly devious!" Marc muttered as he stepped out of Alistair’s private room. He hadn’t expected the baron to have crafted such a meticulous plan to secure the box.A few minutes earlier."I have already registered it for auction at the Auctionarium," Alistair said, laughing like a madman. The Auctionarium was the largest auction house in Wyndham. In fact, it was part of the biggest auction network in the Walenstein province and one of the largest in Lanshire. As a prestigious auction house, only high-quality items were sold there. From rare artifacts to ancient, one-of-a-kind weapons, one could find them at this venue.Additionally, the Auctionarium accepted requests to auction personal items on a profit-sharing basis. Of course, only individuals with significant wealth or influence were eligible to make such requests. As a baron, Alistair naturally had no trouble securing one."If they don’t see this it

"If I may say so, this young man does have quite the appealing face for a girl your age," he said with a wide grin, teasing Harper. Looking back and forth between the two, the cultivator could tell there was something between them."Sir, what do you mean?" Though offended by the cultivator's words, Harper tried to keep her tone calm. "Please refrain from making baseless remarks and let us pass.""Hahaha!" Instead of letting them go, the cultivator burst into laughter as if he hadn't heard Harper at all. "Your reaction—so, am I wrong to conclude that the two of you are engaged in a scandalous affair? Hahaha!"A grave accusation!"Sir, mind your words." Lifting her head, Harper's fair and delicate face turned bright red with anger and humiliation. "I am not a woman without principles. So do not say anything beyond your bounds before knowing the truth." Her tone was neither harsh nor loud, but it was undeniably firm."Hahaha! Look at that! You'r

"Let's go." Marc casually continued walking toward the door and opened it. As before, Harper obediently followed him.As they stepped out of the cultivator’s room, the bodyguards stationed at the door looked visibly surprised to see Harper walking behind Marc. However, before they could say anything, the young man and the girl had already walked away.A few moments later, Harper got into the driver’s seat of her car without saying a word after seeing Marc enter the passenger side. Having witnessed the young man’s abilities, her perception of him had significantly changed. No one in this city had ever been able to defeat Shadow, yet Marc had done it as if it were nothing. Even if his cultivation level was only at Level 10, did it even matter when he possessed other abilities that made him powerful enough to take down the ninja?Realizing this, Harper refrained from speaking or protesting. With his skills, wouldn’t it have been easy

But the moment she set foot in the district, this unexpected mess hit her like a slap in the face."What the hell am I supposed to do?"She couldn’t use her best men—Marvel had already gotten to them.“Give us the weapons and help us secure the money, and half of it’s yours.”That was Marvel’s promise.Ten million dollars. That was the rumored amount sitting inside the Central Bank of Cammont. If the job went well, the Larsian people would walk away with five million. With that kind of cash, they wouldn’t have to worry about survival for years.<

Not even a text.He hadn't even tried sneaking into her house to see her like he used to.Every time they had a fight, no matter how big or small, he was always the first to apologize. If they fought during the day, he'd show up that night with a cake—"Sorry" written in frosting. If they fought at night, she'd wake up to find a bouquet hanging outside her window, and there he'd be, waiting on his motorcycle. But this time? Nothing. Not even a hint of remorse.Leah had considered going to him first. She was still angry—hurt, really. Especially because Marvel didn’t seem the least bit sorry.

She was satisfied—ecstatic, even—that she'd landed a blow to his face in return. She knew Marvel well. He took great pride in his looks. Damaging any part of his body, especially his face, felt like a personal victory. One worth celebrating."Now look at you! Just another ugly bastard no one would even glance at! Hahaha! You must’ve been slacking off like crazy.”His voice was laced with mockery, and the smirk on his face made it worse. They used to be cultivators of the same level. But two years ago, right after their relationship ended, Marvel had gone into seclusion to focus on his cultivation. When he returned to Duskmoor two months ago, no one knew how far he’d advanced. Still, plenty speculated that his current power had to be at least Level 15.“Shut your damn mouth, asshole! All she wanted now was to blow this bastard’s face apart, just like she had done to that sniper earlier. But Marvel wasn’t just any man.Just like before, when he’d dodged point-blank sniper fire, he moved again—shifting his head left and right with sharp precision, dodging the barrel of Leah’s gun. The bullets tore into the ground, missing their mark completely.“Die, you bastard! That’s what you get for messing with me! You’re gonna feel everything I felt!”Bang! Bang! Bang!Fueled by pure rage, Leah kept pulling the trigger, firing over and over, trying to hit his moving face. “Why did you do that?”The sniper's face—crushed beneath Marvel’s boot—was now an unrecognizable mess. But instead of looking pleased, the gangster boss stared at the young woman with a cold, piercing glare. Leah’s actions hadn’t satisfied him—they’d only raised questions.“Tell me why you shot him.”“Oh, come on. What are you even talking about?”Leah, the woman who had just appeared and gunned down the sniper without hesitation, shrugged casually. Her expression was calm, almost bored.“Why would I need your permission to kill someone who was getting in our way? Obviously, I had to take him out.”“Really? That’s your story?”Marvel narrowed his eyes, the intensity in his gaze sharpening like a blade. He studied her carefully, like a predator sizing up an unfamiliar threat.“Tell me—are you hiding something from me?”“Hufff... He shouldn't have been able to hear those shots—just like the subordinates of his who’d already ended up dead. And yet, out of nowhere, the man suddenly raised both arms the exact moment the shots were fired.Tap! Tap!With lightning speed, he swatted the two bullets away before they could lodge in his chest, deflecting them in random directions.“All you know is how to sneak around and take potshots, huh?” he growled, eyes narrowing toward a specific spot beyond the shrubs.
