Unseen Attraction

Kuza and Yura screamed when they saw the insects in Lord Duncan's blood and jumped back in fear. However, Dennis remained unmoved. This was nothing new to him, and a few seconds later, the insects turned to smoke and disappeared into the air.

Immediately, Lord Duncan sat up abruptly, gasping as his eyes widened and he became conscious again.

Without thinking for long, Yura ran towards him and hugged him, crying tears of joy. The sight warmed Dennis's heart as he stepped away, allowing them ample time to reconnect.

"What happened?" Lord Duncan asked, and his granddaughter looked at him with tears in her eyes. She hugged him again and cried,

"I'm so glad you're awake, Grandpa", she said and looked over at Dennis heartily

Meanwhile, Hugh awoke in the hallway and looked around, nursing a slight headache he got when he fell.

He wondered what he was doing on the floor in the middle of the hallway and then suddenly recalled what had happened.

Immediately he panicked, fearing that Yura had gone ahead with her plans.

He stood abruptly and staggered, leaning on the wall as his vision became momentarily impaired.

When he regained his composure, he hurried towards the yard and emerged, staring at the hearty faces. Instantly, he frowned; these people had defied his orders earlier and somehow knocked him out.

They all stared at him in question without saying a word. But as his eyes scanned the room, they settled on Lord Duncan, alive and awake, he frowned but then forced a wide smile instantly.

With slow steps, he approached him, still unable to believe his eyes,

"Hugh", Lord Duncan called excitedly as he saw him

"My Lord, you're awake!" He said excitedly

"How do you feel?" He asked

"Well, I feel well, Hugh", Lord Duncan replied, and then his eyes settled on Dennis, and immediately he tried to get up to meet him.

He knew Dennis could be the only reason why he was now awake, as he had saved him several times in the past, but Dennis hurried to him and placed his hand gently on Duncan's shoulder.

"No, no, don't try to get up. It would be best if you rested now",

"Your body has suffered a major loss in energy, and you should rest to regain your strength," Dennis said

"What happened to me, Apollo?" Duncan asked, and Dennis heaved a sigh

"You were infested, but now is not the time to get into the details of that",

"Let's just say that you are quite lucky that I found you when I did, else we would've been gathered here on a more sombre occasion", Dennis said and turned to face Yura

"You have your granddaughter to thank for that. She was the one that found me and was pretty insistent", Dennis said, giving Yura a courteous smile

"Well, whatever you did, thank you. It seems once again, I owe you for saving my life", Lord Duncan said and extended his arm for his granddaughter; she walked closer to him and held it endearingly

"Thank you, sweetheart", he muttered weakly

The nurse walked up to them, filled with many questions, and when Duncan saw her, his eyes softened, showing his gratitude,

"Ms Kuza," he said warmly

"My Lord. I'm glad you're awake and getting better again," she said softly and moved towards Dennis. She had many questions about everything that had just happened, but one disturbed her most

"I've never seen anything like that in my entire life before", she remarked as she approached Dennis

"What happened to him? What type of disease was that?" Kuza asked. Dennis looked around and saw the same questioning gazes on everyone's face

"This wasn't a disease", he uttered

"I'm afraid Lord Duncan was cursed",

"Cursed?" Kuza exclaimed in disbelief but then waved away the doubt. With everything she had witnessed, a curse did not seem like the craziest thing to believe now.

"Yes. He was cursed, but this was rather strange", Dennis said

"How so?" Yura asked with curiosity

"This wasn't anything like I've seen before. This was a very mysterious curse. Whoever did this wanted you dead, Duncan", Dennis said

"If I didn't know to expose you to the sun rays, which heated the insects in your stomach, causing them to burn up, which, together with my massage on your stomach, made you vomit them, I'm afraid you wouldn't have made it."

They were all shocked as they listened to Dennis; none of them had heard about such a mysterious curse before.

Up until now, some had not even believed in curses, and then Kuza snapped, narrowing her eyes at Dennis in anger, her face turning red.

"But who would curse him?" She asked keenly, expressing the same thoughts that lingered in the minds of everyone present.

"What does anyone have against Lord Duncan that they'd want him dead" She followed up immediately with another question, and Dennis shrugged and threw his hand up defeatedly

"Everyone calm down", Yura said, "The good thing is that my grandfather is feeling much better now",

"I think we should all let him rest than disturb his mind with such grievances," Yura said, dismissing the questioning gazes on their faces

"She's right," Lord Duncan said, reaching for her arm as she helped him sit up.

"Whoever is responsible for this, I will ensure they are found and pay for it. But for now, I'll like everyone to remain calm and nothing that has been said or seen leaves this space",

"None of you shall breathe a word of what has happened here to anyone", Duncan added and motioned for Dennis to come closer.

However, no one noticed the pale look on Hugh's face as Lord Duncan spoke,

"Thank you, Dennis. I am forever grateful for you", Duncan spoke softly

"I'm glad I could help",

"Well, I would like to show my appreciation by expanding and extending my collaboration with your wife's company", Duncan said, and suddenly, Nurse Kuza's demeanor became sunken when she heard that Dennis was married.
