The next morning arrived as the sun touches Timothy’s face. He woke up; he immediately ate breakfast before heading towards the doctor's clinic
His wife was still cooking some food; Rosa tried to stop him and shouts, “Are you leaving already? I cooked you your favorite!”
“Thanks! I’ll be having them later! Save me some, okay?” Timothy shouts back as he left.
He was more than eager to meet Arwin, but as he stepped inside, he saw Mark cleaning the office like usual. He thought of Mark as some clean freak kind of guy.
Timothy’s eyes immediately searches for her clinic bed, and there he saw Arwin was still peacefully sleeping. It was a relief for him.
"Hello, Mark, is the old man awake yet?" Timothy asked.
Before the other man could answer, the doctor shouted out. "Yes, I'm in the kitchen. Come and join me for a cup of tea."
“Well, you heard him,” Mark replied with such a straight face, he rarely shows emotions, and when he does- it’s when a kill is clean enough to satisfy him.
Timothy went to the kitchen, and he saw the doctor eating a simple porridge with some fruits beside him. There was a steaming cup of tea in front of him and a vacant quest chair.
"I was expecting you, my friend. Now that Arwin is here, a skilled mechanic, and a ship captain at that, I can finally say yes to you!" The doctor immediately blurted out happily after seeing him.
"Finally, what?" Timothy was confused by the doctor's actions.
"Don't you think that I don't know what you have planned out?" The doctor asked from Timothy.
"Planned out what?" Timothy got more confused. He completely forgot what his wife had suggested last night. It was too early in the morning to actually start remembering things, Timothy thought.
"Your master plan. I have already packed up most of my things, and Mark is almost ready to leave. Well, I guess we aren't in a hurry yet as Arwin hasn't woken up. Also, the airship isn't fixed yet, after all." The doctor let out a cheeky smile at Timothy.
Timothy had to sit down, and he sipped the tea before asking, "How did you know? I don't remember saying anything to you before. So how did you possibly know before me even telling you?"
Timothy was suspicious. If the doctor already knows, what stopping him from telling Silas instead? Who else did the doctor tell?
The doctor felt Timothy’s intense and piercing gaze; it was too intimidating that the doctor stammered, "Oh, don't worry, I haven't spied on you or anything. You know how fed up I am with Silas since he is good at making promises of paying me without doing so until now. I also remember you talking about your friend from the natives a couple of times. I know how you would want to go and live there with Rosa."
“Okay…” Timothy says, waiting for the doctor to reveal their true intention. It was a skill he picked up from Silas himself; somehow, Silas always knows how to get what he wants.
The doctor gulped and sighed, “ Okay, okay. We also know that the outside world is like a scene from the best horror book that someone could have invented in their spare time. So it isn't that safe to move there if not in a larger group of experienced people."
The doctor reasons out, “Technically, the safest place from that horror-filled world is within this city that has a guardian totem that we managed to stol… I mean, we borrowed from the natives before. Another option of safe haven is the native villages with their protection totems. So last night I remembered you mentioning that Silas has an old airship that works with steam and surprise surprise we are part of the largest company that provides steam to the city. " The doctor got Timothy’s full attention now as he continued to explain, “With that being said, Silas must have a lot of trees as well at his warehouse that he can burn anytime. We both know that even when you cut a tree out from the outside world, immediately in another place, a new tree will grow. Because of this, we cannot cut the forest down here and try to drive those nightmare creatures away to expand the city.
“I’m listening.” Timothy tried to appear calm and not excited by this, but he wasn’t as good at lying as he is in fighting.
"Considering all this, I can easily put together that if Arwin repairs the ship, it would be your best way to travel to your friend's native village. I want to come with you as only you have been kind to Mark and me here, and you actually pay us." The doctor said while smiling more at Timothy, who had the most puzzled face on now.
“So you’re saying… you’re risking your lives for me?”
“Don’t be silly! We’re risking our lives for ourselves.” The doctor just drank his tea and then asked, "Are we not invited at all? You know I was planning to leave Silas anyways to get better payment. I was wondering if I can join you; I may discover new forms of medication in the forest or from the natives.
I don't even know anything else, and my thirst for medical knowledge is far more than compared with money." The doctor added.
"No, of course, you are welcomed. I just didn't know that you wanted this and knew my plans all along to this extent. Of course, I will happily accept you and Mark among the small group; my wife wanted you to come. However, don't expect my plan will work if Arwin doesn't want to work with us." Timothy said while smiling at the doctor knowingly.
The doctor, however shows no sign of doubt or disbelief.
"My friend, why won't she accept? If we tell her about Silas or the profits and we are honest with her, it should be easy for her to agree. You even saved her life, so she owes you greatly. I think she will be happy because I feel she's previously been a pirate as you saw the tattoo on her arm. She wouldn't like her freedom being restricted like Silas does to his employees." The doctor said.
Timothy knows the doctor was right, but he didn’t agree. It wouldn’t be that easy. There was something about Arwin that he couldn’t quite point out. Arwin feels like a predator- like a cheetah when hunting- subtle but lethal.
Suddenly they heard Mark speak, "The patient who you did bring here is awake now. She fell on the floor from the bed, but luckily, it was a small drop." Before he went out of the kitchen to go back to cleaning.
Timothy was not sure when Mark got in the kitchen, but he had already left just like that.
"Okay, Timothy, now it looks like a good time to talk with her. Let me do the checkup first, and then tell her about our plans or about this place." The doctor said before finishing his food and tea, then get up to go to the infirmary.
“How do I know you won’t betray me?”
“You won’t.” The doctor says, smirking, “That’s what makes life interesting, isn’t it?”
Arwin looked confusedly around her; she didn't recognize the current room where she was, but she recognized it as a clinic after watching a little bit around of her and seeing all of the things related to medicine. She could feel his head throbbing, an intense pain making her uncomfortable. She suddenly remembered how scare she felt last night. Arwin knew she couldn’t hear anything. But before she has the time to worry about herself, she suddenly saw an old man coming out from a door, and she put her guard up, but when she saw Timothy behind the old man, she relaxed somewhat before saying. It was a familiar silhouette, Arwin thought. She recognized the young man. "You saved me? Thank you so much, and sorry for being a burden. I haven't even caught your name, and you already brought me to a clinic." Arwin says as she sat back down on her hospital bed. "My name is Timothy, and the man next to me is Jonn, even when we mostly call him an old man o
When the doctor had gotten halfway through his story Timothy came in and asked immediately, "John, is Arwin at the condition to walk now, or do I have to wait?" "She's fine to walk; she just finished eating also, but take it slowly first and no fights or anything, okay?" The doctor replied curiously. It was interesting to see Timothy act urgently. “I can’t promise that, but I’ll make sure Arwin won’t be back here getting treatment from you today.” Timothy smiled mischievously The doctors smiled as he shook his head in disappointment. "Okay. Arwin, I think I found your pistol, but they refused to sell it to me, saying that you are the only one who can buy it directly. They were snickering and clearly looking down on you. They said you have this week to buy it before the auction as per rules. I have your papers here, and we can go there and demand your pistol. They even dare to laugh at my face when I said your name. They said I am a friend of wannabe f
After Arwin finished her inspection, she then looked at the tools and all of the things stacked next to the ship with a deep frown. Seeing this, someone from the audience shouted out, "Do you just plan to stare at it." "Stop pretending and give up already." Another one from the crowd yelled. The elder snickered at the rest of the crowd was booing and laughing at her. Arwin didn't care about the constant noise of ridicule around her. At that moment, she was in a world of her own. She was listing all the problems on the ship, noting them all inside her head. After looking it through, she took a pencil and wrote the answers to those questions that needed it. Some of the problems had to demonstrate and fix on the ship, and they were marked with a star, which could be dealt with later on. As soon as Arwin was done with the paper, the shouting began again. "What nonsense did you write there for you to finish that quickly?" th
"Hmmm… Tom… That is really interesting." The guild master muttered out while thinking something before he shouted out, "Tom, I know you are here! Come forward now." Tom, who was just about to leave, suddenly stiffened like a statue, gulped out nervously before turning around and walked towards the Guild Master. "Tom, I want the records from the examination. Where is the memory crystal? Do not tell me that some unfortunate thing happened to the memory crystal as well." The Guild Master asked out while sizing Tom up. He was clearly disappointed. Tom stammers, “I uh…uh.” But before Tom could even construct his sentence to answer the question, the other elder came forward and said, "Here are the records, Guild Master. I was interested in her since she should at least get some points. Yet, she got full zero, so I wanted to see the records myself." After saying that, the elder gave the records to the Guild Master. "Sir, we inspected the ship and the
Arwin was happily whistling while following the guild master. She completely forgot Timothy for now, who was having the worst crisis in his life now. He had finally found out a genuine mechanic, maybe even an airship captain, but she went and offended his boss child, and Silas was still an essential part of his plan like Arwin was. So what if Arwin would join the guild now where he would get another mechanic? Timothy’s fears are now being realized as he didn't even notice that Arwin had already left as he was pondering what he should do next. Arwin was clever, and Timothy knew that if he were in Arwin’s shoes, he’d immediately dismiss Silas’ offer- the guild can offer her twice as much. And here, she wouldn’t have to pretend she’s a guy. Timothy’s heart was racing as he was thinking what he should do. "So, as I said, you will randomly draw three of the items and two you can choose, but firstly let's see where your pistol is." The guild
The only way for me to survive the heist is by escaping from the city to the wilderness. They wouldn't be happy that their warehouse was looted, after all. I guess I still need Timothy to at least how know the outside world is looking like.' Arwin silently thought about her plan to rob the place. She also knew that she wouldn't be able to do it on her own and that she needed help from someone who is trustworthy enough. Arwin was still in deep thought when she noticed the Guild Master come out. "Your luck really is extraordinary. All of the items you got are in this backpack, that is also your third item, and it's another failed experience of a spatial space. Despite that, it still can store nearly seventy liters while the toolbox can only store near to ten liters." He explained. "As I said before, it's an experiment and could be unstable, so I won't guarantee that they won't explode later on. For the other two items, I guess I will let you check them
Arwin couldn't get the image of the ship out of head for even a second. Because of this, she aimlessly walked out of the guild. She also failed to remember what the Guild Master had told her after introducing the airship. Add to the fact that she didn't realize how the people who once were mocking her now were whispering her name in an excited manner as well. She didn’t care about anything else. When she also got outside, she just walked past the nervous Timothy, who was waiting for her patiently. Earlier, when he realized that he didn't know where Arwin went, he decided to wait for her outside of the main exit. Finally, when he saw Arwin, he waved at her and tried to call her name. After so much effort, he just ran towards her and stopped her. "Don't you recognize your first friend anymore? I tried to call you, but you just kept walking." Timothy said while trying to sound sorrowful; he looks away, “What? Just because they have a better offer, you’d
"Timothy, we would need some brute force if things go wrong or once the docking and the fuel are placed at the airship. So you would be really needed. Please, think this through." Arwin said while watching Timothy. “I agree.” Mark added, “This plan has less risks than yours, Timothy, and as much as I don’t want to admit it, we will need you aboard.” "I have to talk with my wife about this as well as with Marie. I need to know what they think about this first. I cannot promise anything for now," Timothy said as he nervously fidgeted his thumbs around, “It’s just… it’s too soon.” Arwin nodded, "Okay, we do understand. However, the offer will close after three days. Hopefully, by then, we are out of here," she said before drinking water again and continuing, "So, Timothy, can you tell me about the outside world, at least?" She asked cutely. Everyone was surprised at this sudden shift in her mood; Timothy asked, “Hey, what’s wrong with you? You’re like a
