He jumped off the bed out of fear of being caught sleeping in this kind of bed that he could never afford to get, even with his two-year salary all together.
"It was a mistake.” His speech was incomplete as he vividly stared at the huge man in a black suit, but he could barely mark what he looked like because he was wearing a shade that was hiding his eyes.
"I want you to follow me right now. The boss is waiting for you downstairs.” He said in a deep voice that it was obviously scary. Darren was quite confused about the boss he was talking about, and he didn’t quite understand why he would want to see him.
He was sure as hell that he hadn’t committed another offense, and if it was about Avery, then he had given up, so he deserved to have a peaceful life from now on.
Darren had so many questions, but the guy in the suit didn’t seem entertaining, so he gulped down and decided to follow him while he led the way downstairs.
As Darren followed him from behind, he began to recall that there were about three to four men who were also in black suits who came in front of his table last night.
Then he recalled that one had smacked him hard at the back of his neck, and that could explain the reason for the severe pain at that point around his neck.
They reached downstairs, and he stared at the amazing design of the sitting room and the indulgence designs all the way from the bedroom down to the sitting room. The structure and interior designs of the house are ones he had never seen before except in movies, and Darren barely had time for movies because he had to work hard to earn some bucks.
While they walked forward, Darren noticed a man in a dark blue suit backing them. He seemed to be focused on the outside view of the house. Darren didn’t realize that it was a penthouse until he saw the view as he stepped closer to the man backing them.
"Sir, he is here.” The man in the black suit said and bowed his head, even when the man in the blue suit wasn’t looking at him.
Darren noticed he was a middle-aged man from his back view. He was dying of curiosity while his whole body began to feel numb and sweat began to bead on his forehead.
The man, who had his two hands dipped into his side pocket, took a slow turn to stare at Darren and the guard.
Darren was able to clearly see the man’s face, and his mouth dropped to the ground. There was no bloody way that he was standing in front of Mr. Reeves, the number one wealthiest man in the world.
The bone in his knee cracked a bit out of tension, and he could barely keep his stance as he fell to his knee.
"Please, sir, I think this is all a set-up. I haven’t done anything. Please let me go.” His breath was shaky as he pleaded, and his heart began to pound hard against his chest.
Before he knew it, he began to hear the sound of whimpering, and as he lifted his face, he saw the tears streaming down Mr. Reeves cheek. He was the one crying. Darren was in a tantrum, and confusion was tormenting the hell out of his brain.
"I'm sorry, sir. Please forgive me for whatever I have done and spare me, please."Darren gagged on his saliva. He felt like this was going to be the end of him. He was going to end up dying here because he had fallen into Mr. Reeves’ trap, and he was unsure how he was going to get out of this trouble.
“ God! I finally found my son’s lookalike.” He cried as he walked closer to him and began to rub Darren’s face slowly, as though he missed touching his son. He has been gone for over two years, and he felt so hurt seeing someone who looked so much like him. It brought so many memories that his heart began to shatter, and as a very influential man, he couldn't choke back the tears because he was his only son and he was his heir.
“ What?” Darren stiffened in shock. He tried to digest what he was saying, and he wasn’t certain if he had heard that he looked so much like his son.
"Get on your feet!” He commanded, and his voice was fiercer than the guard standing behind them.
Darren was totally confused by all the drama, and he seeks clarity. At some point, he noticed this man was not going to punish him or kill him because he could see sincerity in his eyes and raw human tears trickling down his face. It was strange to Darren for a very influential man to be shedding real tears in front of him. It was enough confusion to take in, but it felt so real.
Darren immediately got on his feet because Mr. Reeves was a man of authority.
"What do you mean I look like your son?” Darren was baffled.
"Hector, give him the picture of Tate.” Mr. Reeves ordered the guard who was behind them. Then he brought out the picture from the pocket of his suit and showed it to Darren.
Darren held the photos with shaky hands and noticed that the young guy in the photo looked exactly like him, and his eyes widened to the extreme. He didn't believe they were people who were lookalikes in this world; he was startled and stunned.
"What happened to him?” Darren asked with pity in his eyes.
"Take the photo from him and keep it safe.” Mr. Reeves ordered the guard, and he flung the picture from Darren’s hand.
"My son died two years ago.” He sniffled and backed Darren immediately as he began to speak; he was probably hiding his pain from Darren. Darren had seen enough, and he didn't need him to witness how vulnerable he was becoming, especially given his health status.
"I don’t want to talk about my son. Let’s get down to business as to why you are here. I know you have a lot of questions to ask.” Mr. Reeves said as he folded his hands behind his back.
" I'm sure, you don't need me to introduce myself. I am Reeves Sebastian, the owner and Chairman of Engand Group." Reeves said and Darren battled to hold his gaze. Darren knew of the Group because it is currently the number in the world.
" I don't not have much time to live, young man, I was diagnosed of cancer of the blood. I do not have an heir anymore, this is why I searched all over for someone that looked like my late son and my men finally found you." Reeves explained and Darren listened.
" I want you to be that heir that I lost. I want you to inherit everything before I give up the ghost." Reeves said on a serious note and Darren just stared at him with shock.
Mr. Reeves felt a tightness in his throat causing him to cough severely. Darren raised his brow subconsciously at the sound of the intense cough. He could tell by the way he just coughed, he was having health issues.Mr. Reeves coughed into his white handkerchief that he brought out of his back pocket. And there was blood pouring out of his mouth.“ Ignore what you just saw and take your seat.” Mr. Reeves wipes the bloodstain from his lips and pretended like nothing serious had just happened.Darren eyes flickered from confusion to sadness but Mr. Reeves thought snapped him out of the thousands of thoughts swirling in his head.“ You must be wondering why you are here?” he asked Darren again as he sat on the white couch next to Darren.“ Y..yes.” his speech were yet not stable, he was still in shock, at the this point Darren was going through so many emotions at a time.“ Good. For over a year, I searched all over the world to find that one person that will look like my dad son. I des
Darren returned home and began to rearrange his apartment. His anger was fierce as he thought all about the humiliation he had received from Eric and Avery because he was poor. And now his boss didn’t allow him to explain before getting him fired from his job. That was the only job he was lucky to have, but now those two devilish couples have ruined it all.“ Shit!” He groaned, throwing the broken pieces of his TV to the ground again. He was so tired of this hard life; wasn’t it enough to change his name to Tate at this moment? He bit his lips as he rose on his feet to take the card the guard had given him early this morning."Hello,” the guard said as Darren put a call through."My mind is made up. I’m ready to fight against all odds after accepting to be Tate Reeves.” He clenched his fist as he told Hector. Darren felt like a shit, and he was done with people treating him poorly, and now it was a good opportunity to accept the name and rise from this poor caliber."We will come and
"Do you need my driver to take you home, or do you want your own car?” Mr. Reeves asked as Darren was about to leave the penthouse.Darren didn’t believe it. He just smiled. "I would like your driver to take me home. I do not need a car for now; I think we don’t need to draw the attention of others.” Darren said as he smiled back at Mr. Reeves."That's smart of you, my son. By tomorrow, I will introduce you to my secretary, and he is the only one you need to put you through as the chairman of the Engand Group. He is one of my trusted men, and no other person apart from him should know about you. Your life might be at risk, Tate. I lost a son once; I wouldn’t want to lose another one due to my carelessness.”“ Okay..” He responded quietly as he thought about his life being at risk."And also, you will have most of my guard secretly following you around all the time.” Mr. Reeves said, and Darren nodded as he recalled why Hector had come to pick him up in less than thirty minutes."I wou
"This is a big joke, Hector. Tell me you are joking!” Darren groaned, throwing his flower vessel to the ground."Tate, stay still. Do not fucking go out of your place! This is too dangerous for you. You are the new heir, and you in need to be protected at all costs."Hector screamed at him."I don’t believe this, Hector.”"There is a lot you are not going to believe. You need time to know everything that is happening. And listen to me; never step out until I come with the secretary!” He screamed and hung up the phone on Darren.Darren's mouth dropped open in confusion. He ran his hands into his hair, as he didn’t believe what had just happened.Mr. Reeves’ already had a short time to live; how could someone heartlessly kill him before his time? This must be insane. There must be a lot that Darren needs to know before he reviews himself.Darren heard a knock at his door, then he jerked off his couch as he attempted to open up.He halted to confirm who was at the door. Hector told him n
“Wait, before you leave, I want you to take me to Mr. Reeves. I need to see him at the morgue.” Darren stared into their eyes. Leo and Hector glanced at each other for a few seconds before they responded.“That’s okay, but you need to use the fake face. You can’t go to the hospital, Tate; that would be too risky.” Hector said, and Darren agreed as he followed them from behind while they headed to their rides.Darren got into the car with Hector as he wore the dark shade while they headed to where they could purchase a facemask that seemed more like a real face. They purchased the perfect one for him that seemed to make him younger than his age, which was a great disguise for him. Then they began to drive towards the hospital. The hospital belonged to Mr. Reeves, and now he has given everything to Darren.Hector asked the driver to halt when they drove to the side where Mr. Reeves was exactly shot dead."This is where he was killed.” Hector told him as he took down the side of his wind
Darren followed the blonde-haired lady as she took him to the room around the housekeeper's quarters. Darren's eyes widened at how huge the villa was and the fact that the interior design was the kind he had never seen before. While he marveled at the villa, his mind was not at rest after the lady told him about the party that they were going to have in a few days. She stopped in front of the white door and twisted the door knob to push it open."This is where you would be staying. Ah. I forgot; I am Nora, the only daughter of the Reeves family, and in a few hours I will assign you to your duties.” She said it with a small smile and walked out of the room as she slammed the door closed, leaving Darren alone in the room.Darren sighed as he moved closer to the door to peep. He wanted to confirm if she was gone before he answered the beeping of his cell phone in his pocket.Leo and Hector have been calling him for the past thirty minutes, apparently since he got here.Leo was the one ca
It has been a few days since Darren started working for the family and finally the day of the party. He looked at himself through the mirror and sighed, adjusting his clothes. Hoping he wouldn’t cause a scene, and he would be able to get through it smoothly, he walked out of his room, his steps suddenly came to a halt when he saw Nora, who flared her nose and moved closer to him. “No mistake, grandma loves perfection, and you should be able to deliver that, we are not paying you a huge amount of money to mess up.” “I have heard you.” he replied curtly and walked away from her. He went inside the grand hall and was shocked at the massive number of people who had come for the party. The smile on their faces and how they chatted did nothing but anger him, wondering how no one cared about Mr. Reeve's death, not even his family. His hands were fisted beside him as he swore to exact his revenge and get to the root of the matter. “Is that your job?” he suddenly heard the voice of grandm
Darren stared at Grandma, even though he was boiling inside, he knew better than to cause a more deadly scene. He smiled and bent his head “I am sorry for the trouble I have caused you,” Darren pled and turned, walking away from the party. He stepped out of the hall, and he was slapped by cool air, his anger had faded, and he slowly rubbed his cheek, he knew he had to calm down and not let a slap like that get to him. He suddenly heard an echoing footstep that caused him to tilt his head, he saw Nora, and he gently bowed before her. “Grandma must have been in a good mood if she didn’t fire you,” Nora said and Darren was quiet, he didn’t know what to say, and he didn’t want to say anything that might lead to more complications for him. “You are not supposed to stand outside, you're being paid for your work so step back in and do what is necessary.” Nora added, this time around her voice stricter. Darren watched her walk back to the hall, but he wasn’t ready to go back in yet, so h
