Henry had delivered the security footage from Victoria’s room to Marcus as promised and true to his word, he took no money for it. Marcus pondered on the recording, uploading it to his cloud so that he could have two copies. At first, his plan was to spend the night at the hotel and then at his divorce proceedings he would bring forth the footage as evidence but while he waited for Henry to bring up the evidence, he had seen online that Victoria’s press tour was not over yet. In contrast to her one day business trips, this one was three days. Three days of her and James together. Three days of gathering more evidence but it didn’t matter. Marcus had enough. More than enough and he would use it well.
He checked his watch and smiled. It was noon. The same time that Victoria and James were supposed to have their presentation on a recent building project. A building project that he had drawn up but no matter. He was going to be there to congratulate them on their impromptu and well deserved win.
Without hesitation, Marcus left his room and headed for the conference room on the second floor where the presentation would take place. It was a closed meeting but with Henry’s help, Marcus made it on the list for entrance. The security guards had given him a once over when he arrived but since his name was on the list they had no choice but to let him in.
Marcus walked into the large hall, watching people settle down, awaiting Victoria’s entrance so that they could begin. He made his way to the back of the room where the electrical setup was. Fortunately for him, the operator was nowhere to be seen. So, with the opportunity in front of him, Marcus attached the flash drive that Henry had handed to him earlier. He had a bit of technical knowledge and with that he was able to rig the video sequence. THe damning video would go first when they needed an image on the large screen in the room. All the operator needed to do was press the start button.
With that done, Marcus slunk away in between the crowd and made his way to a seat at the corner of the room. He kept to himself, not wanting people to notice that he was in the room. Soon enough, the room filled up and everyone was where they were meant to be. The doors closed and in a second, an applause filled the room, deafening to the ear as Victoria and James walked up on stage with bright smiles as if they didn’t just tear at each other some hours ago.
“Thank you everyone for being here at this press conference. I’m very sure that the lot of you had somewhere else to be but you decided to come here and for that I am grateful.” Victoria addressed the crowd, her voice carrying authority to calm them down. Marcus winced. Her voice irked him.
James stepped up beside her, a casual touch on her waist before he continued from where she stopped.
“As you all know after the trgic thing that my former friend Marcus Chen did to Victoria, we decided to dwell on something better instead of the past. Victoria and I decided to go into business together and with our combined knowledge and her father’s approval, we’ve decided to build one of the tallest buildings in the city.”
The crowd gave a small applause.
“Not only is it going to be the tallest building but it’s also going to double as a hotspot for tourism, vacations and in some cases, huge events. Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you our next project, The Blue Oval.”
The crowd watched intently as James gestured to the operator to show the picture of their plans. Everyone expected to see blueprints and whatnot but what they didn’t expect to see or hear was the moans of Victoria that echoed through the room and the video of her humping James.
Everyone’s mouths dropped in shock at the outcome. Victoria’s head whipped back, shame and anger creeping into her features. She gestured for the man to turn it off but to her dismay, I had rigged the video to play on a loop. Plus, the best part was coming.
“What do you think he’ll do? Do you think he’ll go to the public about what he saw?” James asked Victoria as they paused from their lov making on the screen.
Victoria scoffed.
“Marcus Chen is a soft bellied man. What would he tell the public? That he caught me having an affair with his best friend? Who would believe him?”
“So no one will ever find out.”
“No one ever will, my love. All I need for Marcus to do now is sign the divorce papers and get out of my life. Then it’ll all be fine. The interview I had did enough damage to his image. He’ll never come back up.” Victoria sneered as she rubbed her hands together.
The crowd began to murmur, phones already out taking videos and pictures of the footage playing before them. What had started out as a conference had dissolved into a full blown gossip mill.
“This is a mistake. It’s doctored footage. You all can’t believe that I would do such a thing do you?” Victoria shouted out, her arms flailing, silently begging for her audience to believe her. The cameras went off and the press had their fill for their next big story.
The crowd began to file out of the room, neither of them wanting to be in the same room as Victoria and James especially with their sex tape on repeat. James ignored the people and rushed straight for the projection equipment. He pulled out all the wires and cables from the control board which to his merit stopped the video on the screen but the deed had already been done and the damage it had caused had already begun to eat away at their image.
With that done, Marcus stood up from his seat, his eyes trained on Victoria who was having a full on panic attack on the stage. For a moment, their eyes locked and Marcus couldn’t help but send a smirk her way. She grimaced at him, her mouth turning into a snarl.
Victoria wanted to play dirty. All he did was level the playing field. An act that would ruin her for life. With that smirk, Marcus turned away and walked out of the room.
Marcus didn’t get that far. In fact, he had only reached the lobby when he heard heels clacking on tile and stomps coming towards him. He didn’t bother to turn around. He knew who the footsteps belonged to.
A hand grabbed Marcus and spun him around. He came face to face with Victoria and James. Before Marcus could speak up, Victoria slapped him across the face. He balled his fists in anger but didn’t do anything. Why would he when the entire lobby was watching the show.
“How dare you do that to me? After all I’ve given you. After the way I’ve changed your life.” Victoria spat at him.
“What do you mean?” Marcus asked them with a shrug. James grabbed him by the collar.
“Oh, don’t play dumb. We saw you there. You sabotaged us!” James screamed at him.
“Well you did sleep with my wife multiple times so I guess we’re even.”
James raised his fist, ready to deliver the first blow but Marcus spoke up first.
“I don’t think beating me up in front of about twenty people would do you any good right now James.” Marcus retorted.
James paused and looked around and true to his word, there were about twenty people in the room all with their phones out and a pissed off look on their face. James let Marcus go and ran his hand through his hair.
“You will be punished for this.” Victoria muttered under her breath, shooting daggers his way.
Marcus smiled at them as he watched them walk away. Apart from the slap that he had received from Victoria, he would say that he was having a very good day and soon enough, an even better week once the press made a mess of this.
