The Pardon

The courtiers gasped in shock as they recognized the golden snail.

“It's the Golden Snail,” one courtier shouted in disbelief.

“It's real? I've never seen one so close before in my life.”

Czar Nikolai leaned forward, his eyes shining with astonishment.

The creature fascinated him. The snail's shell gleamed under the lights of the chandeliers, casting a golden light across the hall.

Moses grinned. He needed no prophet to tell him he had captivated the king.

“Your majesty,” Moses continued. “This is the golden snail. It's known to appear once in a century. As of this moment, you're the only man in this lifetime who possesses the snail. Are you impressed, your majesty?”

To my Moses surprise, Czar didn't whisper to his advisor.

“I'll admit I was getting bored with all the other gifts presented to me. But this one,” Czar said as he stood to his feet and strolled towards the glass enclosure.

Czar's voice was small and husky. His lips parted into a wide smile.

“I'm clearly impressed
