Chapter 5

Maxwell scoffed. The day had enough drama as it was, yet, before him was an old friendly fellow who was claiming to be his grandfather.

"You're joking right?".

The old man shook his head, "You are my long-lost grandson. I've been searching everywhere for you, all these years. Believe me, I—-

"I'm sorry, sir", Maxwell interjected, "I have my own family and I know for a fact that you are not my grandfather".

"You don't know how long I have been searching for you. It took years, hopes, and worry to get to this point and now—

Maxwell saw a tear roll down his eyes. He noticed the old man's shaky breath and trembling hands, "Now, you are standing right here, before me. This is wonderful".

"I'm sure you're mistaken. Please have your men find your grandson, I am not him".

He wanted to walk away but the old man pulled him back to himself.

"Grandpa, I'm guessing this is another imposter who hopes to be your grandson?".

A sweet voice suddenly sounded behind him.

He turned to see a girl dressed in a blue gown and red heels. She had a mean expression on her face while she walked in. She bowed to greet the old man when she reached him.

Maxwell was taken aback by her rude comment.

"I never said I was I was dragged here by his—-

"Grandfather, you should have him do a DNA test. You know these men are capable of lying to you. They want to be your grandson so bad that they could forge their lineage". She glared at Maxwell.

Maxwell scoffed. "That's a great idea. You should get a DNA test. I agree with it".

He walked away from the old man and closer to the girl.

"I wouldn't want to be called what I am not. Money isn’t as important as you think it is".

Little Miss Arrogant clicked her eyelids twice. She was surprised by his comment. She stared into his eyes, searching for the slightest hint of pretense but found none.

Maxwell held a steady gaze.

"You seem different from all the other men that have come here". She blurted out after they had held each other's gaze for too long.

"Most men come in here looking to hastily claim ownership of my grandfather's property. You want to make sure. That's impressive".

She leaned closer and poked him in the nose, "By the way, has your nose always been this crooked or did you like this particular style?".

She giggled.

Maxwell's cheeks turned red. He pulled away and hid his face behind his elbows. "It's none of your business".

His response was laced with embarrassment and the old man could sense it.

"Mirabella. You didn't have to be that mean. Kid,she’s your Father's niece or better still, your cousin".He turned to Maxwell and said with a soft voice.

He could see how uncomfortable he looked as he spoke.

"John, would you come here for a second please?"The elderly man called his guard. Bold steps and in a second, a man who looked like one of the men that had kidnapped Maxwell appeared. He had his sunglasses on. He lowered his ear to the old man's side. They whispered between them for a few seconds before he left again.

"The test results will be here any minute", the old man said.

Maxwell's eyes flicked open. His jaw dropped. "What do you mean? I haven't even given you a sample of my hair or saliva! Where did you get—

"You forgot I told you I had my eyes on you for some while now. It should be here in three, two—

Someone knocked on the door. Maxwell raised his eyes to see who was behind the door and so did everyone else. Grandfather walked to the door. He collected an envelope from one of his maids and walked back to Maxwell. "You should read this yourself".

Maxwell tore through the envelope and pulled the test results out. He scanned through it and then looked back at his grandfather.

"So it's true?!". His grandfather nodded, "I wouldn't lie to you on such a matter".

His jaw fell. He inhaled a couple of times, trying to wrap his head around what had just happened. He looked over at his cousin.

She was grinning at him.

"How does it feel to be part of this family? And you know you have a total of 14 companies in your name, right?".

 "What?!".

Maxwell's jaw fell again. His heart froze.

"Yes, 14. Exclusion of the ones you are a stakeholder in. I think it should be 14 or more. We would need to check them".

Maxwell's heart started to work again. It did a cartwheel. He was speechless. "Isn't that too much for someone who just found out about their lineage?".

Grandfather scoffed.

Mirabella chuckled loudly, "Says the long lost heir of the family. You shouldn't be overwhelmed by things like this. There are more coming your way. Grandfather hasn't told you about the houses you own, the cars you have, the industries you have your money in, and how he saved up enough for your existence. Just you hold on".
