Chapter 14 - Disappear

Jorah chuckled. "Why do you look sad? Are you having a problem?"

Riko smiled slightly as he shook his head slowly. "No. I'm fine."

Jorah approached Riko and tapped him on the shoulder. "Don't lie. Even though I'm old, I still have instincts. Tell me, what's your problem?"

Riko had forgotten that he had a proper brainstorming place. He and the old geezer had the same goal.

"I had a strange incident that I can't understand."

"Come with me to the house. I'll serve you some iced tea to keep you cold."

"Cold? It's summer now."

"But your brain and heart are hot."

Riko was surprised. He was always amazed by Jorah's words, who seemed to know everything. "What do you mean?"

"Don't talk too much. Besides, you still need to pay your debt. Therefore, in exchange, you should tell me about your problems."

"Really?" Riko smiled happily. "You are so kind, Jorah!" Even though he has always had bad luck since the death of his person, he is still grateful to have a friend who always treats him like a grandson.

"Come on."

Jorah put two cups of iced tea on the table and sat beside Riko. "Now tell me your problem."

Riko sighed, disappointed. "I'm sure you will be surprised to hear this. This will be both good and bad news for both of us."

Jorah frowned, confused. "What do you mean?"

"I had an encounter with mythological creatures—"

"Really?! That means that map…." Jorah looked delighted.

"I'm not finished talking. Don't interrupt me!" Riko protested, annoyed.

"Alright. I'm sorry," Jorah chuckled.

"But I'm not sure that all these events were real. Because every time I met them, I would faint. When I woke up, I was where I was. I felt that our meeting was just a dream."

"I'm sure it's all real."

"How can you be sure?"

"If all of that was just a dream, your parents couldn't possibly have died because of that creature, right?" Jorah tries to get Riko back to his old ways.

Riko was worried. "Then why does everything feel like a dream? What's causing it?"

"I don't know for sure. However, one creature might not like it if you knew all about its existence.

Rico was surprised. "What do you mean?"

"Wait a moment." Jorah got up, took an old book on the shelf, and sat back down.

"What the book?"

"This book is about various creatures believed to live in the world."

"Really? How come you never told me?" Rico is annoyed.

"Never mind. It's not important." Jorah opened the book and showed it to Riko.

Riko saw a picture of a strange creature that looked terrible. "What creature is this?"

"He is a demon who can erase someone's memory."

I was wide-eyed, shocked. "I understand now!"

Jorah chuckled proudly. "You brilliant!"

"So he erased my memory all along? But what's his purpose?"

"As far as I know, they act like that to protect their people. They don't like it when aliens like humans enter their area."

Riko remembered when he was dying in that dimension. There was someone who came closer to him, then after that, he regained his senses and returned to his original world.

"Could it be that thing?" Riko muttered in confusion.

"So you've met him?"

Riko shook his head. "I don't know. I'm not sure, either. As far as I remember, I never met him while in that dimension. But I was always visited by someone I don't know."

Jorah nodded in understanding. "There's no doubt about it. It must be that creature that erases your memory."

"Irritating," Riko grunted in annoyance.

"Or maybe it's the same thing that killed your parents." Jorah guessed.

Riko was stunned. "Is that possible?" he asked doubtfully. "If so, what should I say now? I just can't remember anything."

Jorah shrugged. "I don't know either because I've never had anything like yours. You're one lucky person."

Jorah stood up. "I'll make you some soup. You look pale. You must not have eaten, right?"

Riko chuckled shyly. "Thank you."

After a while, Jorah returned to Riko and served fish soup in front of the young man.

"By the way, what were you doing last night?"

Jorah looked tense. "I just stopped by the supermarket."

Riko frowned. "Supermarket?"

"Why? You don't believe me?"

"No! I'm just … confused. Why do you go to the supermarket at midnight?"

"Never mind. Ask only a few questions. Quickly finish the soup and go home! Because I need to rest."

"Alright." Riko ate the soup and didn't want to ask any further questions because Jorah was sometimes scarier than a monster when he was fussy.

Riko threw the bag on the table and lay down on the bed. His eyes stared up at the ceiling in confusion.

"Is it true what Jorah said earlier, that my mind has been erased by that creature that always appears when I'm dying?" Riko couldn't stop thinking about it. Even though he was a bit confused, there was no reason for Riko not to trust Jorah's opinion.

"There is no other choice. I have to ask Processor William about it directly, even though I will be punished by him. He is the only clue. Moreover, William's always avoiding me makes me sure he knows something."

Riko rushes to sleep so he can leave for the campus as soon as the sun rises.

∆∆∆

Riko rushed to Professor William's study because it was too late. Because of fatigue, he had too much sleep to wake up late. However, there is still time to have a short talk with William.

"Sorry! I'm in a hurry!" Riko accidentally bumped into a few people to the point of swearing, but he didn't care and kept running.

Arriving at William's room, Riko found many police, lecturers, and several students crowding at the door.

"What has happened?" Riko muttered in surprise. So far, it's rare for the Professor's room to be flooded with guests. However, strangely the old man's guests weren't just students or fellow lecturers.

They all looked tensed and worried. That succeeded in inviting Riko's curiosity. Even though he was afraid and confused, he dared to approach them.

"Excuse me, let me ask a question. What's wrong?"

The guys immediately spoke up and kicked Riko out instead.

"You?!" Rudolf, one of the cops who often scolds Riko, is surprised. "What are you doing here?! Get away! You can't come near this room!"

"What happened?" Rico is very curious.

"That's none of your business! Go, don't ask too many questions!" Rudolf snapped.

"But—"

"Go!" Rudolf glared at Riko angrily.

"Okay." Riko is forced to leave because he has no other choice.

Riko's feelings turned sour, and he was sure that something terrible had happened to William.
