Chapter 6 - Be Caught

A city is more appropriate to be called a village because it is not touched by modern culture and still relies on ancient defensive walls as a stronghold. But now is not the time of war.

Riko has no choice but to enter the area and ask for help. He hoped someone would help him.

Honestly, he was afraid. However, he was far more scared of dying from starvation.

Finally, Riko arrived at the entrance gate of the city. Before entering, he gathered courage and steeled his resolve. Because he doesn't know what will happen next.

Riko sneaks in. He was amazed to see the structure of the houses that looked strange in various sizes, big, medium, and even small like the dwarf house.

Riko thought the city was a tourist spot with an ancient theme. However, after not finding any tourists, he was pretty doubtful.

'Why is it so quiet? Has this city been abandoned just like that?'

As Riko digs deeper, he is surprised to find more oddities and discrepancies. There were various giant fruits and strange animals he had never seen before. Big horses, red-eyed cows, and much more.

He felt like he wasn't in the real world but in a dream world.

Although scary, they seem docile. They didn't feel disturbed by Riko's presence and continued to enjoy their food peacefully. Now Riko could sigh of relief; no need to worry about anything that might happen to him.

Presumptuously, Riko took a strange fruit and ate it so voraciously. He crushed the fruit so that his mouth filled with sourness and bitterness, but still delicious. The young man did not care at all who owned the fruit; the important thing was that his stomach problem was resolved.

 "Kill them!"

Riko's ears caught the sound of the commotion, then tried to find out where it came from.

"Whose voice was it?"  That piqued Riko's curiosity.

Riko is still determined to find the origin of the sound even though he is afraid because he is still very curious about the original inhabitants of this city. He was sure they must look very different from the average human.

Riko increasingly enters the city and finds a castle surrounded by a river. The screams of the commotion became even more clearly heard when Riko approached a castle defense, much like in a war movie.

 "Don't kill us, Your Majesty!"

"Tell me quickly! Where did Morwen hide the Cube?! If you persist in your silence, I will kill you all!"

"W-we don't know anything about the Cube."

'Who's that angry?' Riko muttered

The baritone voice sounded very angry, making Riko shudder. He peeked through the gap in the gate to see what was going on behind the sturdy fortifications.

Riko was shocked at the sight of blood and human remains scattered in the inner courtyard. Plus, hysterical crying blared loudly in the yard, making the atmosphere even more terrifying.

Riko did not expect that a large-scale massacre was taking place.

"Wh-who are they?"  Riko muttered in horror. His voice was trembling with fear. They are not only violent, but they also look stealthy. The human face, but a half animal.

Among the thousands of people kneeling to be executed, Riko couldn't find an average human like him. Their stature is like a demon's because they have human heads but animal bodies like winged humans, centipedes, and others.

There was even a giant red dragon waddling through the air.

'What exactly is this place? Am I dreaming?'

"Sure! I must be dreaming!"  Riko patted his cheeks, but nothing changed. The young man remains trapped in this strange world.

Riko is confused about whether he should be happy or scared. He's satisfied because his opinion was proven right after struggling hard for so long, but on the other hand, Riko is sad when he finds out that his enemy is so terrible and strong. It felt like he couldn't possibly kill them for revenge.

They are like vicious psychopaths. Moreover, they have magical powers.

But, one thing Riko knows.

It turns out that the tragedy that night really happened and was not just Riko's illusion. That mythological creature has the heart to kill both parents. Seeing how despicable they are to kill each other strengthens Riko's opinion that they were the ones who took the lives of their father and mother for no reason. Riko's fists clenched tightly. He wanted to jump into the chaos, grab one of the swords, and slay all those vile creatures.

But that's impossible!

Riko can only hallucinate forever because he's just a weak human without the provision of superpowers. He feels it is impossible to defeat this creature that has power beyond reason. Especially the Man wearing the crown of snakes and clad in black armor.

Seeing his ferocious face and despicable attitude made Riko's guts shrink. He is like a gazelle in front of a lion.

'What should I do now? I can't just stand by and watch this guy act like that. I also don't know when I will be able to come to this place again. This opportunity will not come twice. I have to be able to kill the killer of my parents!' Riko is determined.

Riko racked his brains to find a way to save the creatures that were on the verge of being killed while looking for the spider man.

 tap!  tap! tap!

Riko stiffened when he heard the sound of mysterious footsteps approaching him. He didn't dare to turn around or move. The young man had already turned into a statue.

'Wh-who is that person behind me? Is it the enemy? Ah, Shit!'

Riko's legs were already shaking until his body was drenched in sweat.

After a few minutes, nothing happened. Riko was surprised a little when the mysterious figure kept silent.

He didn't feel the person was going to kill him.

'Was that sound just my feeling?'

Riko mustered up his courage before turning around to check.

 SRET!

"ARGH!"
