Chapter 8 - An Unexpected Savior

"Don't kill me!"

The blade broke Riko's shackles in one fell swoop.

Riko slowly opened his eyes as the chain fell from his hands.

"Come with me," he ordered, then flew towards the air vent.

"Wait! How can I fly?!" Riko shouted angrily.

The man snorted in annoyance. He came back down, gripped Riko's shoulders with his eagle-like feed, then returned to the gate.

"Hey! It hurts! Get off me!" Riko rebelled.

"Be quiet if you don't die," he said firmly.

Riko immediately looked down. The creature was right. Now, he was at a height. If he fell, his body would definitely be crushed.

The bird demon takes Riko away from the castle and manages to trick the guards.

"Actually, where are you taking me?" asked Riko in the middle of the road.

The creature was just silent.

"Hey! Answer me!" Riko protested angrily.

He couldn't just believe in stealth. For all strange beings are equally evil.

"If you don't answer, I will kill you!" Riko denounced and lost his mind.

He only glanced at Riko briefly, then focused on looking at the flying field.

"You really suck!"

"Shut up!"

"How can I be silent when I was kidnapped by aliens! You could have saved me to eat me!"

He just dropped Riko, so he was slammed hard enough to the ground.

"Argh!" Riko fell on his stomach. "Shit! You heathenish bird demon!"

Riko gets up but can't because he's suddenly his body paralyzed.

There was a sound like grass being trampled by someone while walking. Riko heard the sound of footsteps approaching him. He tried to look at the source of the sound but failed because his head was too heavy to move.

Riko is frustrated. Even though he had just enjoyed freedom, he had to face a new problem again.

The young man could predict his life would end today. He wasn't sure he'd be able to return home safely.

'How about this? I'm not ready to die.'

Slowly Riko's consciousness began to fade.

Before long, he vaguely saw two feet stopping nearby.

"How did you get here?"

'Isn't the voice…!' Riko was surprised. He knew that voice all too well. The voice that once tore his heart apart.

 "Answer me."

Riko choose silence.

∆∆∆

Riko opened his eyes. A dazzling light immediately greeted him.

"Where am I?"

"Thank goodness. You're finally awake too, Riko."

"Professor?" Riko was stunned. "How did Professor come to be in this world too?"

Professor William frowned in confusion. "What do you mean? Are we in another world?"

Riko immediately looked around him. Turns out he was in a room dominated by all-white. The smell of medicine immediately invaded his senses.

"So I was in the hospital?"

"Of course. Why?" Professor asked back.

Riko was stunned. There was no way this strange event was just a dream. He was sure he was in the world of that mythological creature.

"How come? It was obvious I was in that creature's world!" Riko is annoyed to hear the truth.

Professor William took a deep breath. The behavior of his students is getting crazier from day to day. "It looks like you're having a severe hallucination, often experienced by people trapped in the forest."

Riko furrowed. "What do you mean, Prof?"

"Never mind. It's not important," Professor William said indignantly. "You better focus on your health. You still need to rest after losing a lot of blood." Professor William patted Riko on the shoulder before leaving.

"Hey, Prof! I'm not done talking yet!"

 ***

Riko returns to his apartment even though the doctor insists he doesn't. Riko was lying on the bed while looking at the room's ceiling.

"Actually, what happened to me yesterday? I wonder if all those strange events were a dream. But, I could clearly feel it when I was there."

Riko can only remember some of those events.

As he recalls, he was thrown to the ground by a bird and then passed out. He forgot the moment he entered and so on.

'Is it true that the series of events happened like that?' Riko hesitated. He was sure something else had happened after he fell from a great height and passed out.

However, for some reason, he couldn't remember anything at all. Part of his memory disappeared so that sometimes he felt confused.

Moreover, a strange flash of memory has been bothering Riko's mind since he left the hospital. However, when he tried to dig into his old memories, those shadows disappeared instantly.

Riko ruffled his hair in frustration. "Argh! It sucks!"

 ***

 The next day.

Riko is desperate to come to campus even though his body has not recovered yet. He went straight to Professor William's study.

Riko knocked on the white door and then burst in without waiting for a response.

"Professor, I need to speak to you."

Professor William stood with his back to Riko while reading a book. "Who let you in? Where are your manners?"

"I don't have time for small talk. Please explain what the Professor said yesterday," Riko insisted.

Professor William closed his book a little roughly and stared at Riko sarcastically behind the glasses, which were glistening in the sunlight.

"If I don't want to answer them, what are you going to do?" challenged William.

Riko tensed. It was the first time the white-haired man was being curt.

 "I-I just…."

"Get out. Before I kick you out of this university because you dared to disobey my orders in the forest." Professor William's voice was cold but sharp.

"But, Prof—"

"Hurry out!" Professor William slammed the book on the floor to vent his frustration.

"Alright." Without further ado, Riko ran from the room.

'What's with the old man? Why is he suddenly fierce?' Riko thought in shock.

"Oi, Idiot! Are you currently receiving punishment from the Professor?" he scoffed.

Riko suddenly got annoyed seeing Edward's disgusting face. Edward's cunning grin made Riko want to rip his enemy's lip.

"That is none of your business." Riko just passed Edward and left.

Edward was taken aback for a moment, then chuckled sarcastically. "It seems you have dared to fight me."

Riko stopped for a moment and stared at Edward, cold but sharp. "I was never afraid of you."

 "You …!" Edward growled angrily.

"Your brain has a problem if you think I'm scared all this time. I don't want to fight a weak man like you."

 "Weak man?!" Edward's anger exploded.

Riko smirked in satisfaction. Now, he has so much fun insulting someone. Moreover, to the point of anger, like Edward now. His heart is very light.

"Why are you silent? Am I right?" Riko teased.

"You are a Bastard! How dare a scumbag like you fight me! Do you think you can beat me?! A weakling like you deserves to die! The Professor shouldn't have saved you back then!"

"Professor?" Riko was shocked.
