The detective immediately leaned back staring at the direction of the door, his eyes widened as it were focused on Robert’s father, the City council with a smirk.

Jason sat quietly in his chair, his face stoic, his eyes focused on the floor. He didn’t react to the detective's earlier attitude, not even when Robert’s father walked in, his face flushed with the urgency of summer safety that all he could think of now.

“Release Jason immediately,” Robert’s father demanded, his voice firm.

“The Mayor has sent me. He wants Jason out immediately.”

At that moment the detective raised an eyebrow, his smirk widening into a full grin.

He crossed his arms, leaning forward slightly.

“The Mayor?”

“You expect me to believe the Mayor is interested in some local kid? How would he even know about this? You’re playing games with me, Robert, you and I know the Mayor can't be interested in this kid.”
