They watched the fight between Azlan and the faceless black creature. The light that shot quickly belonged to Azlan. Leon watched from his position with both hands holding Zenata's body. Actually, what is that black creature?
"This is an established safety zone. You don't need to break into it even if there's a commotion. Get out there!" Azlan shouted angrily at the creature floating in the air.
There weren't just one or two creatures there, but there were several. The bright light that was still shining chased away the black creatures. After the creatures left, the light there began to dim.
"Everyone, come in. It's safe now," said Azlan to the other guests staying there. They came out of their respective rooms when they heard the commotion. When the creatures came, they were afraid.
There are guards in each room who reassure the residents that the situation has improved even though it is still tense out there. The darkness that everyone fears.
Azlan's sharp gaze was fixed on the children. With his magical powers, he closed the door easily without touching it, making a loud sound that shook the children.
"Didn't I tell you not to make a fuss before the sun rises?" Azlan approached them angrily.
"We don't know what happened, but Zenata suddenly screamed and opened the door," replied Gio who immediately covered his mouth when Azlan's sharp gaze was directed at him.
Leon did not respond and paid attention to Zenata who was still unconscious. Viona tried to wake her up but failed.
"Lay Zenata on the bed, I will help her get up," said Viona.
Leon said nothing carried Zenata's body and laid her on the girl's bed. Gio and Sean stood not far from the table and fixed the fallen wooden chair.
No one spoke there, not even Azlan who calmed him down.
"What is that?" Sean spoke up, starting a conversation and looking at Azlan.
"Faceless Creature," Azlan answered briefly. His gaze fell on Leon who was still standing watching Zenata.
“Is it because they imposed a curfew?” Sean asked again to make sure the rule was enforced every night.
Azlan nodded his head. “Yes. They are the King’s troops stationed in every corner of the Summer Village. They will eat anything after six in the evening, and they will disappear before six in the morning as if nothing had happened.”
They listened to him, including Leon, who for some reason felt uncomfortable when he accidentally saw the black creature.
“The girl will be fine,” said Azlan suddenly.
"How do you know?" Gio asked worried and afraid.
“That girl wasn't prey, more precisely, she almost became Faceless One's prey. "Wait, the girl will wake up soon," explained Azlan.
“Prey?” Sean asked again. The man seemed unable to contain his curiosity.
Azlan’s gaze fell on Sean, realizing that the man was a guide even though he was not a leader.
“I’ll explain to you later so that you can be careful,” Azlan said then.
Hearing Azlan’s words, Leon also became curious. Viona approached the table to listen more carefully.
“After the fall of Sky Light, the City of a Thousand-Appearances and King Blackyn came to power, every corner of the city was overshadowed by evil. In this Summer Village, they placed the Faceless Ones who would move at night. Anyone who wandered outside at night was the Faceless Ones’ prey, they could not be bargained with or do anything, it had become a rule that even the residents themselves did not know,” Azlan said.
“No one knows? Then, how do you know?” As usual, Sean would ask the questions. The man would be more critical.
“The fall of Skylight has been going on for about 300 years. That has been enough for us to observe, and it has become a deep-rooted fear that has become a habit. Even so, there were still those who violated the rules. As a citizen, even the village chief could not save anyone who was in the grip of the Faceless One.”
“But you managed to save Zenata,” Gio said.
“That’s because the girl hadn’t been in the grip for too long. You must have seen how the girl’s face was facing forward as if being pulled?” Azlan said.
They looked at it, Zenata’s face looked a little strange, stretched forward as if being pulled by something invisible to the eye.
“Besides, the girl has a protector,” Azlan said, making them look at each other.
“Protector?” This time it was Viona who asked.
Unfortunately, Azlan answered with a smile. “You’ll find out later.”
“Isn’t there a way to stop the evil?” Leon asked for the first time in minutes.
The question made Azlan shake his head slowly. “If only there was, those 300 years wouldn’t have been this heavy and dark. Since there’s no way to stop it, we can only accept it even though it’s very scary.”
“Is there no way to stop what’s happening?” Sean took over the question again.
There was no answer from Azlan other than a tired sigh.
“There is always a centre to everything that happens,” Leon said ambiguously. All eyes were on him. “I mean, there must be a centre that caused this crime to happen,” the boy explained.
Azlan smiled faintly, no one noticed the smile at all.
All eyes were back on Azlan.
“There is indeed a centre,” Azlan said softly. “However, it is your job to find that centre. The center of destruction.”
Sean’s eyes narrowed. “Does that have anything to do with why we are here?”
Azlan then chuckled softly. “You are indeed a compass, Sean.”
Sean flinched slightly.
“However, finding out what happened, isn’t that your job?”
Everyone was silent, including Leon.
“But we are confused,” Gio said. “Is all this real? What should we do?”
“There are many things you can do. It’s just that you are not used to it, and you are confused about how to start,” Azlan said. The man then cleared his throat, and leaned forward slightly, propping both of his hands on the table. “You can start by looking for information this afternoon and then discuss it. For now, be quiet and talk a lot. Get some sleep so that your stamina is full tomorrow.”
It was an indirect message and order.
“Enough. That’s all I have to say. Good night.” Azlan said goodbye and then quickly disappeared, making them jump in surprise because the man seemed to have disappeared into thin air.
“Is he a ghost?” Gio commented in fear.
No one responded to Gio because Sean and Leon had started to be able to control themselves regarding the situation they were facing. Viona might look calm, but the girl was still not used to it. Moreover, Gio was still whining about what happened, as did Zenata who actually wanted to go back. However, it seemed like they wouldn’t be able to move carelessly because it was all in vain.

“So, what should we do?” Viona asked in a scared tone.Leon was already sitting on the chair facing Sean. The man’s gaze was fixed on the table with both hands intertwined.“Shall we go back?” Viona spoke again.“Let’s go back. It’s too scary here. To hell with the key or whatever. I don’t want to be here,” Gio said while looking in all directions in the room. However, there was no response from Leon or even Sean who preferred to remain silent, ignoring both of them.“Honestly,” Sean said suddenly making everyone’s gaze focused on him including Leon. “What power did you get?” Sean asked who this time looked at them one by one. “It will make it easier for us to understand each other, at least.”They looked at each other for a while.“My talent is a guide map, I got a compass which means I am a guide. My total points are 7000, and my weapon is a sword with a white aura and close-range attack ability, and my element is wind,” Sean said explaining his own. “What about you?” Sean looked at

He took a deep breath. “Alright. Let’s do it together,” he said, which immediately made the others smile.“That’s right,” Gio said happily.Leon just smiled a little, starting to realize that they had come as a team, not as individuals. He didn’t know why they were there, but Leon’s instincts told him that it had something to do with him.“Alright. Then, let’s discuss it so we can start moving tomorrow,” Sean suggested. The bookworm seemed to be a good talker and seemed to really enjoy talking. Leon didn’t mind since Sean was the opposite, with the man near him Leon felt better. They came closer to discuss, dividing the tasks between each of them.“First, tomorrow at noon we have to gather as much information as possible. While the others fell back asleep, Leon couldn't close his eyes at all even though his body felt so tired. The boy couldn't close his eyes, the dream that had just happened was still clearly in his mind about the screams and thunderous laughter. Leon didn't understand, and the system didn't provide any information about it when he searched for it earlier. He lay on his bed for quite a while, staring at the ceiling of the room which was dimly lit by the light of a small candle in the corner of the room. Leon was silent, his thoughts were in chaos. Leon was still wondering why they were there now."Who am I?" Leon grumbled in his heart without being able to get an answer. The system couldn't answer when asked the same thing. The place was quiet and felt so cold and tense. The darkness that enveloped him seemed to devour all life there. Leon was still silent, thinking about what the darkness was like."The Summer Village seems lifeless," Leon thought. The boy then woke up from his sleep

When morning finally greeted them. Leon who was ready to go down and maybe even ready to look for anything at that time just sat at the table, waiting for the others. The window of the room was already opened, showing the bright view outside. The blue sky without clouds was seen stretching out of the wooden framed window."Do you think this village holds something?" Sean as usual always asked a lot of questions and always had lots of ideas. The guy was neat and fragrant. Sitting opposite Leon who was only separated by a long table."We'll find out first. So, let's make a plan," said Leon.Sean nodded. "Okay."Not long after Gio and Viona joined, only Zenata took quite a long time. The girl was very noisy in the bathroom, complaining, cursing, and even getting angry for no reason. Of course, a rich girl like Zenata must live in luxury where her bathroom must have a toilet or other place than the shabby bathroom that was there now."That girl is so annoying," complained Gio.Leon did no

After the food on the table was finished, they prepared to leave. The morning approaching noon was hot like summer but strangely felt cold and quiet. People might be doing their usual activities, walking around the place, shopping, and so on, but they were just like that without interacting.“Alright. Good luck. Take care of yourselves. We’ll meet again here at dusk. Try not to stay too long,” Leon said before they parted ways. The others nodded in agreement with Leon and started walking in the direction they had previously determined. Only Zenata was left frowning. The girl seemed to dislike the dusty environment. Leon ignored that and started walking in the direction he had also chosen.“Ugh, wait, Leon!” Zenata exclaimed annoyed because Leon just left without inviting her.Leon didn’t care and walked leisurely while looking around.People were just wandering at the food stalls, goods, and, others without any laughter. Leon was still trying to fight desperately against two big and sturdy men with muscles protruding from their traditional village clothes. Not only one or two punches landed on Leon's face which then left scars on his handsome face which should have been clean. However, Leon did not give up even though he looked tired. However, not only Leon, after a while the three of them fought, but the two men also looked tired. Leon's memory returned to the incident when the mother and son forced Leon to intervene, it seemed that the mother was being harassed by the men, and there was even a possibility that the young girl would be a victim of something.People who initially didn't care now gathered from a safe distance to watch the fight between Leon, the stranger, and the two men the villagers had known that summer. It seemed that Lepn's resistance had succeeded in attracting the attention of people who never cared."Damn it. Who are you?" said the leader, panting. His face and body were already

The voice greeted, sounding very flat rather than anxious.Leon glanced towards the source of the voice, Zenata was sitting still not far from him. Leon got up from his sleep with the help of the girl. Not asking where they were now, but Leon realized that it was not at the inn. A woman appeared not long after and Leon remembered her."Thank you," Leon said softly as the woman gave him a glass of water. The woman smiled. "I am the one who should be thanking you," the woman said. "Thank you for saving me and my child from them.""It's okay. It's my job," Leon replied. Zenata squeaked. As they had planned. Sean and Leon quietly left the room. They made their three friends fall asleep and would not wake up until morning greeted them. There was a fragrance that kept them asleep. Sean with his intelligence put the fragrance also on several inn doors whose aroma entered the gap in the door at the bottom. This was done to keep them from waking up.Leon said there was a possibility that they were fighting something they didn't even know. But they were sure that they would fight. So, to prevent other people from getting involved or hurt, Leon minimized the possibility of that."Are you ready?" Leon asked when Sean had finished applying the sleeping pill fragrance to each door."Yes." Sean nodded confidently. They both looked at each other, of course, there was doubt from them because they didn't know what they would face after that."Okay. We'll start now. "That, does it have to be quiet every night?" Leon asked, remembering the night when Zenata screamed.Azlan looked back at him. "Only loud noises and commotion will make the faceless come," answered Azlan. “Only those who enter noisy houses will be considered breaking the rules.”"Then, just talking like this won't be a problem?" Leon asked again."As long as you can keep your voice low," answered Azlan again.Leon nodded in understanding now.“Then who are you?” Leon remembered the events of the night when Azlan chased away the faceless black creature. His laughter sounded soft again. “I don't know how many times you've asked who I am. However, you will find out later.”“You know, in my observation, you know a lot of things. About what happened, about what might happen. About what might happen in the future. Leon came out of the room, looking to the right and left of the second floor of the quiet inn. Candles lit in several corners of the place helped illuminate the surroundings. Leon walked slowly, not wanting to make a loud noise that might invite discomfort. The second floor was safe, there was only silence. An uncomfortable feeling gripped Leon, even feeling so cold and piercing his skin. Ignoring it, Leon went down to the ground floor, in the lobby which was also quiet. No woman was guarding the registration desk, or anyone guarding there.Leon didn't know why his feet were walking towards the tightly closed main door. In the window not far from the door, there was a gap. The man was silent there, just silent with a straight gaze into the gap peeking at the atmosphere outside.Just like what Leon saw in the room, outside there was only darkness. Usually, there was candlelight outside or something to illuminate but there was none at all. Leon thought, is it because the darkness will d

“If you want, go ahead. But don’t involve me,” Zenata said. Of course, the girl would refuse. “I don’t want to. Never!” the girl said firmly.“No problem,” Sean replied casually. “Me and Leon will do it. Besides, we didn’t suggest anything to you, like Leon did this morning to divide the tasks,” Sean continued.Zenata stared at Sean sharply, disliking the man.“Right. You don’t have to do it. What you did this afternoon was more than enough. If you don’t want to, that’s okay. Sean and I will investigate,” Leon said.“But Le, what if it can’t be handled? As we know, darkness is hard to handle. We’re just strangers who don’t even have the power to fight a king who is said to be dark and cruel,” Viona chimed in. The girl’s face was restless.“Yes, I know.”“If you knew, you would still do it, right?” Gio already knew that Sean and Leon were two teenagers with high curiosity. They would continue to find out until their curiosity was satisfied.“I think you know that too,” Sean said, still
