Chapter 5

Jaxon continued to walk into the classroom, where all the students were already present for the lecture to be delivered by the lecturer named Aiden.

When Jaxon entered the classroom, his friends Dean, Jake and Ethan immediately greeted him.

"Hey, Jaxon, why are you late?" Jake asked once Jaxon reached his seat.

Jaxon sighed and said, "Nothing; I just met Jessica."

Then Jaxon immediately turned his head to look for Rachel's figure; as soon as he saw Rachel in her chair, Jaxon directly delivered the message that was left to him.

Ethan, who had been watching, immediately asked, "Jaxon, answer me honestly; why do you look so nervous? Are Tristan and his friends bothering you again?"

"Not really," Jaxon replied, continuing, "Ah, never mind, let's not prolong it anymore; I don't want to cause trouble."

Hearing Jaxon's words, Jake, who was sitting next to Ethan, immediately stood up and said, "Jaxon, you can't just keep silent and surrender; you have to fight back too; otherwise, believe my words; if you continue to be silent, you will be trampled by them, we have to get back at them! This afternoon we'll wait for them on the way to the canteen," said Jake in a fit of rage.

Jaxon, who heard Jake's plan, immediately said, "Jake, don't add more problems; you, me, Ethan and also Dean must be self-aware; we must know who we are and who they are; they are the children of the rich people in this city, don't you know that Tristan's father always donates and invests in our campus? Let alone us; not even the Chancellor dared to reprimand Tristan and his friends."

Ethan then interjected, "But Jaxon, we can't just surrender to their treatment; I'm sure if we fight, we can beat them to a pulp."

Indeed, among the four of them, Ethan was the kind of person with a hot temper, he was never afraid of anyone, but that was what made him often get into trouble on campus.

Jaxon smiled bitterly, then said, "Ethan, Dean, Jake, I know we can beat them up, but you have to remember what I am like on this campus; I am nothing more than a poor student who can only study with the help of studentships and subsidies from the campus council, you know that the subsidies I get from the student union on this campus, my situation is different from you if you are not the children of rich people, but your parents are well-off, while me? I am just a poor child."

"I'm just an orphan who happened to be adopted by Mr Johan; they are just an old farmer; they take care of me only based on humanity; if not, maybe they would not adopt me as their child because I know to fill a stomach alone they are struggling, let alone add to me, to eat they have to move from working on their garden in the morning after that they have to take wages in other people's gardens in the afternoon."

When telling his life story, Jaxon could only look down in defeat. Many pairs of eyes sympathised with him, but few were disgusted to see a poor man like Jaxon.

Ethan and Dean patted Jaxon's shoulder and said, "We're sorry, Jaxon, we got carried away and didn't think about the consequences of getting you into trouble."

"If you demand revenge for what they did to me, certainly, they will also make it difficult for you here; remember that they have a lot of money, and there are always ways they will hurt you; I hope you don't get involved in my problems, right now I am still able to survive," Jaxon said as he put down his bag and hurried to sit down.

It doesn't feel like time has changed. Jaxon, known to be very poor on campus, could only stay in class. That afternoon while other students were in the canteen enjoying their lunch.

He sat holding a red plastic bag filled with rice crusts he had brought from his foster father's house last Sunday when he visited him in his rickety home in the slums behind Carlton.

Jaxon stuffed his mouth with food bit by bit, then drank the water he had brought from the dormitory using an old mineral water bottle.

As a student in an elite university like this one, people would never expect that there are students who are so poor like him.

It can be seen from every student studying here from the upper middle class; although some students are from the lower middle class, they are less concerned than Jaxon, the poorest student.

In the middle of Jaxon's reverie in class, Ethan handed him the bread bought from the canteen. He knew Jaxon was about to reject it, so Ethan forced Jaxon to take it anyway.

"Thanks, Ethan, but next time, please don't bother yourself for me. You also need to save money, so don't trouble yourself for me, rest assured, I'm fine; I've long been used to this situation," Jaxon said earnestly.

"Oh, Jaxon, don't say things like that; I never thought I would become someone who could be rich just because today I didn't give you this bread; you overthink, Jaxon," Ethan said indifferently,

Shortly after that, Dean suddenly appeared from the classroom door; he walked quickly towards them and was seen carrying a boxed milk drink.

Arriving at Jaxon, he immediately gave him his milk drink box and said, "Here, Jaxon, drink it; I bought it for you on purpose."

Jaxon nodded and accepted the drink box Dean gave him with a smile.

Jake then said, "Jaxon, why are you so reluctant? We're best friends; no matter what, we can't stay calm if one of us needs help; this is your day; maybe tomorrow is our day; who knows?"

Seeing Jake's expression as if he were a preacher made Dean and Ethan laugh. The room was now filled with the sound of their laughter.

But not long after, Dean grumbled, "Hey, did you see Tristan treat Jessica? That jerk is good at making himself look like a handsome hero, wheeze; I'm so annoyed at the proud smile on his face, even though he doesn't know that Jessica is depressed. That bastard, where there's a pretty woman he'll stick to, one day we'll have to make a reckoning with that bastard, so he knows what it's like to be wronged."

Hearing Dean talking angrily, Jaxon, who had just finished drinking, tried to calm him down and said, "Dean, just hold your temper a little and let Tristan and Jessica be alone, or..."

Before continuing his words, Jaxon smiled seductively and continued his words, "Or don't you like Jessica?"

Hearing Jaxon guess so casually made Dean stammer as he raised his hand and said with a sharp look in his eyes, "I-I... I know myself; I don't deserve to like Jessica; after all, who am I to dare to dream of being with the college flower."

"But what made me unhappy was when I saw that Ezra was also there, I could see that Rhodes was always staring at Ezra at every turn; it made me angry."

"Trust me, Dean; I'll organise a match between you and Ezra; I'll make sure to find the best way to be your intermediary, hahaha."

Seeing Jake laughing wildly, Dean could only smile wryly and said while looking downcast, "I know it will be tough; how could she be interested in me? Never mind, rather than being disappointed and hurt later, I'd better let it go."

It's no secret that Ezra is one of the four-campus flower girls who are often the centre of attention on campus. Many male students with luxurious lives have tried to get their hands on one of the four but have yet to succeed, leaving the competition between them wide open.

Many rich boys were always looking for a chance to get close to these four girls; among them were Tristan, Charles, Rhodes and Teddy, but so far, they also seemed to have not managed to conquer the hearts of any of them these girls.

When that happens, the whole campus will be in an uproar, which is undoubtedly their most significant achievement.
