Chapter 8

Derrick stepped out of the building into the sun, squinting and shading his eyes. As his eyes adjusted, he saw a figure standing on the sidewalk. As his focus sharpened, he realized it was Ruby. He was surprised to see her - he had not told her anything about the kidnapping, and they hadn't spoken since the night of the fundraiser.

Seeing her there, in that moment, was jarring. He wondered how she had known to be there. Was she somehow involved?

Nah! All these don't seem right, how did you know about all these" Derrick asked, his voice shaking. Ruby met his gaze, her expression defiant.

"Because I planned it all." Ruby snapped.

"I wanted to get back at you for what you did to me. I knew you would want someone to come here today to your rescue, and I was going to make you pay." Ruby added.

Derrick was stunned. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. Ruby had plotted this whole thing? He felt betrayed, confused, and angry all at once.

"Why?" he asked, his voice barely a whisper.

"I planned this all to show you that I'm better than you, you've been acting up lately" Ruby responded, her voice cold and measured. "I wanted you to see that I'm in control, and that you're not as powerful as you think you are. I wanted to show you that you can't get away with what you did to me."

Derrick listened in disbelief. He couldn't believe that Ruby was capable of such a thing. He had thought she was a kind, gentle person. This version of her was cold, calculating, and frightening.

"Get in the car," Ruby commanded, gesturing towards the vehicle parked on the curb.

Derrick hesitated, his body tense. He didn't know if he could trust her. What if she was planning something else? What if she wasn't taking him home at all? He didn't know what to do. His heart was racing, and he felt like he couldn't breathe.

Ruby glared at him, her expression unyielding. "I'm not going to hurt you," she said, her voice softening slightly. "I just want to talk, you must be curious about a lot of things and I want to say a lot of things to you as well.

After a moment, Derrick walked slowly towards the car. He opened the door and got in, his movements stiff and hesitant. Ruby slid into the driver's seat and started the car. The engine purred to life, and the car began to move. Derrick stared out the window, his mind whirling. He felt trapped, like he was a prisoner in his own body. The car drove on in silence, the tension in the air thick and suffocating.

When they reached the house, Ruby got out of the car and walked towards the front door. Derrick hesitated for a moment, his feet rooted to the ground. He wasn't sure if he wanted to go inside. But Ruby turned and fixed him with a look, and he knew he had no choice.

He forced himself to follow her, his heart pounding in his chest. She unlocked the door and led him inside, closing it firmly behind them. The sound of the door locking echoed in the empty house.

"You're indebted to me now," Ruby announced as they got into the house, her voice hard and uncompromising. "Your father's debt is paid off. But you still owe me."

She took a step closer to him, her eyes burning into his. "From now on, you will call me your savior. You will be grateful to me for everything I've done for you. Do you understand?"

Derrick felt a chill run down his spine. He didn't know what to say. He wasn't sure if he could ever see her as his savior.

Derrick's thoughts were racing. He couldn't believe that this was happening. It felt like a nightmare. He had never imagined that Ruby could be capable of something like this. He had thought she was kind and generous, but now he knew the truth. She was greedy and selfish, and she had been using him all along. He felt betrayed and angry, and he couldn't shake the feeling that he had been a fool.

He had to find a way out of this. He couldn't let her keep using him like this.

As if she could read his thoughts, Ruby smiled cruelly. "You're just a tool for me to use," she said, her eyes glittering with malice. "A pawn in my game. You're nothing more than that."

Her words were like a knife to his heart, but he refused to show it. He forced himself to nod, to show that he agreed with her. But inside, he was burning with rage. He would play along for now, but he would find a way to get back at her. He wouldn't let her know that he was really smart and calculating too.

The following weeks were tense and uneasy. Sean was careful not to show his true feelings to Ruby. He was polite and submissive, pretending to be grateful for everything she had done for him. But inside, he was seething.

He hated her more than he had ever hated anyone. He was constantly on edge, worried that she would find out that he was lying to her. But she seemed content with his obedience, and she never suspected a thing.

One day, Ruby walked up to him and tells him "EVERYTHING WOULD BE ACCORDING TO MY RULES, YOU'LL HAVE TO CALL ME SAVIOR."

"Suit yourself." Derrick replied and walked out on her.

Ruby's face darkened. "You don't get to walk out on me!" she snapped, her voice filled with rage. "You will do what I say, when I say it. Everything will be according to my rules, whether you like it or not!"

But derrick didn't listen. He walked out the door and slammed it behind him. He knew he had just made a dangerous enemy, but he didn't care. He had finally had enough. He was done playing her games. He was ready to fight back.
