Chapter 10 - None Of Your Business
"If Miss Lockwood feels that I did not cure these patients and decides not to trust me, I will have no objections to that. But to let this young man with no real-life experience cure these patients in my place is too much to ask from me. This is the kind of humiliation that I cannot stomach."

Morgan Cook stood behind a middle-aged man and complained with a tone of grievance.

"Uncle Wilfred…"

"Kendra, is what Doctor Cook said true?" Wilfred Lockwood's tone was calm.

Wilfred's aura was solemn, as he had been a powerful man for years. When Wilfred looked at them, they could not help but be intimidated.

Furthermore, the Lockwoods had strict house rules. After being raised that way, Kendra would never dare challenge her elders.

"I don't think these patients can keep going for much longer, and I just—"

"Nonsense!" Wilfred interrupted her and said angrily, "What kind of man do you take Doctor Cook for? He is the pinnacle of the Edren medical community. If there was a patient that he couldn't cure, they might as well be dead. "

Morgan bowed and said, "Mister Lockwood, you are exaggerating, but as doctors, we certainly hope to do our best to treat patients and have fewer people suffer. It pains us to see that these people are suffering from illness. But this illness is incurable, and I'm ashamed to admit—"

"Don't say that, Doctor Cook. You have done your best, and we can only leave the rest to fate."

Morgan smiled. "Mister Lockwood, there's something you don't know. Although I can't cure them, someone just boasted that he can treat these patients."

Morgan stared at Ashton with a smug smile and jokingly said, "I have to ask, does this wonderful doctor here know the course of action?"

Morgan deliberately emphasized his tone, and anyone could tell he was being sarcastic.

Ashton shook his head, unconcerned. "Sorry to disappoint. I don't have any good ideas to cure these patients."

Morgan had been harboring resentment for a long time. His spite showed immediately after hearing what Ashton had said. He smiled.

"You don't know? You are just a stupid young man who knows nothing. It's sad and ridiculous for you to tell me what to do with my patients! I thought you would find some good excuses, but I didn't expect that you wouldn't even bother to find any excuses."

"Miss Lockwood, Mister Lockwood, you should see the true colors of this charlatan now, right? No talent, no ability, no virtue, and I don't know where Miss Lockwood finds this man. Miss Lockwood, this isn't my place to speak, but you are far too naïve and are easily deceived by frauds. You must be more careful in the future!"

Kendra opened her mouth to say something, but she decided not to. She gave Ashton a long hard look.

Ashton had cured these patients and did not need to take the verbal abuse from Morgan. He could step on Morgan's ego and tell him he was a better doctor than Morgan, but Ashton chose to be silent to honor his agreement with Kendra. Instead, he had chosen to endure the injustice and let a buffoon mock him.

Kendra felt a lot of emotions, and her view of Ashton completely changed.

Perhaps Ashton was what people called a real man, unlike the rich boys in her social circle. Ashton was unimpressed by beauty and celebrity. He had his own set of principles that he followed.

Kendra smiled after giving it some thought. "Thank you for reminding me. I will keep your advice in mind."

Morgan nodded, then took out his mobile phone and called the police. "Miss Lockwood, you have a kind heart, so you can't do this to this man. Don't worry. I will deal with him for you. Practicing medicine without a license and performing acupuncture without authorization leads to the patient's critical illness, which can be ruled intentional homicide! Sending him to jail would be fitting! He thought he could show off his clowning in front of me without consequences! Ha!"

When Ashton heard this, his mood changed, and he smiled. He never imagined Morgan would be so closed-minded at his age, around 70 to 80. All that was to chastise Ashton for curing a patient that Morgan could not.

However, before he could speak, Kendra said, "Doctor Cook, isn't this a bit too much?"

"Miss Lockwood, you must never have compassion for those who have malicious motives. You should let him pay the due price!" Morgan insisted on calling the police.

"Doctor Cook, I thought you couldn't cure the patients either? When Ashton couldn't do it, he had malicious motives, but when you were the one who couldn't do it, your reasons seemed to be justified. This seems unreasonable, right? Besides, I paid you five million bucks, and Ashton didn't take a penny. If you claim he was up to no good, well, what could he be after?" Seeing Morgan's face dropped, Kendra said, "No one could cure the disease. Doctor Cook, you got five million dollars for no results done. However, you are sending the one who did unpaid work to jail. Don't you think this is a little too much? There is a line that we can't cross. In the end, won't it benefit you instead to not take this too far?"

Morgan's eyelids were twitching, and his chest was heavy with rage.

"Kendra, where are your manners?" Wilfred huffed. "Disrespecting your elders, acting rashly, giving no care of the consequences, it seems I need to talk to your father. Do you think it appropriate to hand over such a big family business to you when this is how you act?"

Kendra smiled faintly when she heard that. "Uncle Wilfred, however terrible I am, I still think I'm much better than your son, who spends all his days in nightclubs and partying with women, right? Also, my father left this matter in my hands with full authority. I will deal with it however I see fit, and I don't think you have the right to ask questions. If you want to teach me a lesson, you can wait until I make a mistake."

"You!" Wilfred squinted and gave her a stern look. "Well, I'm looking forward to you cleaning this mess!"

Wilfred turned to leave after saying that last sentence.

Morgan followed suit.

After the dust had settled, Kendra sighed with relief and said with a wry smile, "Mister Levin, I'm sorry that I got you involved in all of these absurdities."

Ashton shrugged. Since he made a promise to Kendra, he had no reason to break the contract. Also, he could break off the engagement smoothly and pay off the favor, which was a sure profit for him.

"Big families have always been like this, and everyone is either a hypocrite or a backstabber. Sometimes it is tiring to deal with."

"I understand." Ashton nodded.

Kendra pursed her lips, and soon, a sweet smile appeared. "Well, let's not dwell on the unhappy things. Mister Levin, I have a banquet to attend, and all of them are representatives from leading enterprises in Edren County. How about us attending it together?

"You've been such a great help. It's only fair that I have to treat you to a meal. Please don't refuse, Mister Levin."

Ashton pondered for a moment. "Are the Wesleys of Vermillion part of those representatives?"

Kendra looked at him in surprise. 'Vermillion? Wesleys? Does he know them personally? It's no wonder that his medical skills are so mysterious. Even Morgan is helpless when dealing with this illness, yet Ashton can find the root of the disease in the blink of an eye and cure it. Maybe he has something to do with the Wesleys.'

After all, the Wesleys practiced medicine for hundreds of years. Seventy or eighty Vermillion chain stores in South Edren all belonged to the Wesleys.

"Mister Lockwood, the Wesleys are one of the big four in Edren County, and they are a leading enterprise, so they will also attend the banquet tonight."

Ashton nodded. "In that case, it's no harm for me to take the trip. I have something to ask the Wesleys, and it's almost time for the Wesleys to pay what they owe me."

Kendra was startled. 'The Wesleys owed him a favor? Is he bragging?'

They walked down the stairs and got on a silver Bentley as it drove off.

At the Imperial Court banquet.

The extremely luxurious Imperial Court Hotel was filled with guests, and that was only on the ground floor.

Ashton discovered that Kendra's temperament had abruptly changed on that particular occasion.

Her face was as cold and proud as an iceberg that would never melt. All the women who saw her would be envious of her swan-like graceful neck. Her black gown only added to her enigmatic aura.

"Mister Levin, you can just wander around on the first floor. I will meet a few people on the first floor to discuss business matters. I'll accompany you to the first floor after dealing with them."

Kendra took the file handed over by her secretary, hurriedly said a few things to Ashton, and strode to the elevator.

Ashton took a drink and found an empty seat at the side.

For him, the occasion was no different from an ordinary restaurant. The only difference was that everyone in the restaurant talked freely and connected, while no one seemed genuine with their intentions or what they said at the banquet.

"Why are you in a place like this?" A slightly tall figure approached him with a cold voice.

Alora was wearing a precious designer bag and a white dress, dazzling. However, she did not look pleased.

Ashton looked at her, expressionless. "I don't see how this is any of your business?"
