CHAPTER 03

“I’m a nutjob, huh. Yeah, I was not able to see through you, so you can call me that,” Denver sadly smiled, picking the ring off the floor. It was a heart-shaped ring. Denver also had another such ring on his ring finger now.

The pre-engagement rings were worth around 500 dollars, which was not at all a small amount of money for Denver.

More than the monetary value, the emotional value these pre-engagements rings had in Denver’s mind was great. They were supposed to be treasured for life, yet how could Diane toss the ring away like it’s nothing?

Did she really never love him? Not even like him?

“Hmph, go and find a monkey to put that ring on,” Diane snorted and looked away.

Denver did not speak afterward.

As he was walking away, she went out of her way to say, “Oh, I forgot. You have nothing in your name. Even a beggar wouldn’t want to marry you now.”

Denver did not talk back to them but just clenched his hands and just walked toward the main door, leaving behind a trail of blood drops on the white marble floor.

“Why did you say ‘trespassing’ when this is also his house?” Stephen asked her while still smiling. “And why is he leaving like a coward?”

“That’s because this ISN’T his house,” Diane said. “My dad saved his life. Compared to that, what is this house worth? He deserved what he got for not knowing his place, and hurting you.”

Stephen smiled. “Thank you, sweetie.” His eyes contained a trace of dark happiness, which meant that he was probably planning something bad.

Diane smiled back pleasantly. “I should thank you, too, for giving my mom that million dollar check. She was all over the moon because she had never held a check worth that much. For making us happy…”

She came closer and whispered, “I will make your little brother happy with my lips tonight.”

Stephen pulled her closer by the waist and roughly kissed her. Both of them enjoyed it very much, not at all caring that Denver still didn’t leave the hall.

Denver’s gut twisted as he heard the filthy noises from behind him.

His expression turned stale as if his heart had gone numb, and he strode out of the house almost like a humanoid robot.

Wind blew past him, and he felt something that was in his pocket. He took the box out. It was a gift he had prepared for his ex-fiancee. There were exquisite diamond earrings inside. He didn’t buy the house with a loan as he had sold his own red diamond ring away for it, but he had to take a bank loan to buy these earrings.

However, right now, he did not want to look at these rings anymore. Without a shred of hesitation, he threw the box in the trash.

Beside the box, he felt something in his other pocket. He took the item out.

It was a bank card which was given to him by the pretty brunette he met at work that morning. He had completely forgotten about this.

He took a good look at it now, and he could tell that it was not your regular bank card.

Made with quality materials, the card oozed out luxury and style distinct from regular ones. It bore the name of a nationally renowned private bank, the Don bank, known for grandiosity and confidentiality, accepting deposits of tens of millions or more.

Denver noticed a strange but unique pattern on the card, identical to the one on the ring he wore when he was found and rescued by Uncle Richard. He had sold that ring away to buy the table lamp, but he now wished that he hadn’t sold it away.

“My past, huh…” Denver remembered what the woman said earlier today.

This card could very well be a joke, but if it can provide answers, then it’s worth checking.

Can anything hurt him more than Diane?

As he approached the Don bank with suspicion in his eyes, the security guard, who just woke up from his little nap, immediately stood from his stool and pushed Denver’s chest with the stun baton. “Whoa, whoa, where do you think you’re going? You can’t enter the bank in these mucky clothes?”

“What’s wrong with my clothes? It’s not like they’re covered in mud,” Denver retorted, not at all liking the disdain in the guard’s face, which reminded him of his to-be mother-in-law who would also complain about coming home in dirty clothes. “These are just an old pair I’ve been using for a while.”

“I don’t care. Go back and come in decent clothing,” the guard’s voice grew thicker, which disturbed the other clients that were around.

“Stop kidding,” Denver tried to walk past the guard, which angered him very much.

“Hey!” the guard shouted and pressed the light stun button and thrust it toward Denver’s abdomen.

Denver instinctively stepped back and dodged the attack, but his gaze sharpened like that of a tiger on a hunt.

“What’s with that look? You think I’ll be scared of you?” the guard pressed the full stun activation button and raised his hand high.

“What’s the fuss about?” the assistant manager walked out. “Why are you causing a scene during rush hours?” he arrogantly asked, but he didn’t let the guard talk. His contemptuous gaze laid on Denver. “What business do you have?” There was no respect in his voice.

“Uh, I just want to check the balance on this card,” Denver searched his pockets for a second and took out a bank card.

The assistant manager uninterestedly looked at it. “What’s this? Who would put a stupid pattern like this on our bank card? Are you kidding us?” He threw the card in Denver’s face. “Get lost!”
