CHAPTER 06

After Denver sat back on the couch, the manager poured wine to Denver. “Guigal wine. Twenty years old, and worth 12,000 dollars a bottle. This is only served to those who sit in the VIP lounge. I don’t dare drink it unless the guest tells me to.”

Denver understood what the manager was implying, so he said, “You can drink it, too.”

“Haha,” the manager happily smiled. “Indeed, sir. Drinks taste better when you share them.” He poured wine for himself and happily sipped on the precious alcohol.

The manager took a look at the account details and was expecting to see a lot of money, but he was a little disappointed to see only a billion dollars in the account. “You have a billion dollars, sir.”

“Pfft,” Denver spilled out the wine.

“Mm? Is everything okay, sir?” the manager asked. “Was the wine not to your liking? Do you want a different wine? Cote Rotie? Or Rostaing?”

“No, a fly entered my nose, that’s all,” Denver replied. “This wine is pretty good. But, sir… Did you say there are b-billion dollars in the account?”

Denver’s question was understood differently by the manager. “Sir, the balance on the card is important, for sure, but as long as you have this diamond card, you could access ample funds within the bank. That’s why I think only five or maybe six people in the world own this diamond card. And their information is kept confidential even from the likes of myself. Unless I get permission from the headquarters, I won’t be able to know more details about your account.”

Denver’s eyes enlarged very much. He kept thinking about the stylish woman who gave him the bank card. Just who was she? How could she give him such a valuable card? He really felt like meeting her again. “I thought she was a mental case, but it turned out I was the one who doesn’t remember her. I should have gotten her number at least… Dammit.”

And the manager continued to discuss some things with Denver for the next few minutes.

Eventually, Denver came out of the VIP lounge, as personally escorted down the stairs by the manager himself.

Denver’s gaze just happened to look toward the entrance of the bank, where he saw not just Subrina but also Diane and Stephen.

Denver’s heart felt stung when he saw Diane. All the harsh things she would say straight to his face kept coming back to his mind like a flood.

Sandpaper hands.

Cement Head.

Brick Brain.

All these little insults of hers made Denver unhappy back then, but now, even more so, as all his efforts to be how she wanted turned out to be utterly fruitless.

Meanwhile, Subrina was talking to Stephen in a low voice, “Mister, there’s an issue with the check. It wasn’t processed.”

“That’s not possible,” Stephen confidently stated. “Get it checked once more.”

“W-Why don’t you do it?” Subrina hesitantly asked.

Stephen coldly stared at her.

“I’ll do it,” Diana took the check from her mother and entered the building. Just then, she saw Denver coming down the stairs. For a second, she was startled, but she quickly recovered and snorted, “What’s a loser like you doing here?”

The manager was stepping forward, but Denver brought his hand in the way and stopped him.

“And who’s the clown behind you? Your lackey?” Diana snorted and snickered some more. “You two look like you’re made for each other.”

Subrina saw the manager controlling himself, and lots of calculations ran through her mind because the manager listened to Denver’s words. She quickly came to her daughter and whispered in her ear, “Denver was in possession of an ultra-rare diamond card. That’s why the manager is standing behind him.”

(He’s the manager?) Diana’s heart trembled for a second. (If the manager is acting subservient to Denver, does that mean the card he has is really a valuable card?)

Stephen who was standing right behind them just barely heard Subrina’s words. He immediately raised his hand and pointed his finger toward Denver. “You thief! Did you steal my diamond card and then come here?”

Everyone present there, including the security guard, the staff, the assistant manager, and the manager were all shocked to hear that accusation.

Subrina’s eyes widened as she put the pieces together. “So that’s how it is… He stole your card and then came here to show off in front of me. Quite a cynical plot he brew!” Her eyes brimmed with raving anger.

Diane believed her mother’s version very easily. “How could you do such a thing, Denver? You are trash among trash! Give us the card back! Now!”

“Diane… your breath smells like cum,” Denver shut his nose. “Will you please stop shouting?”

Diane’s eyes bulged out of her sockets, and Subrina’s jaw dropped in disbelief. Both of them couldn’t believe what Denver just said. Denver never even frowned no matter how badly or unfairly they had treated him. Not even once. So, hearing such a ruthless comment from him incapacitated both the mother and the daughter for the nonce.

“Manager, didn’t you hear what I said?” Stephen stood his ground, keeping his hands in his pockets and standing tall and confident. “Make him hand over my card. You know very well who I am, don’t you?”
