CHAPTER 05

“See him out with a stun baton!” Subrina’s voice was loud to irritate every ear out there.

The manager regained his haughty demeanor and cast a sharp glance toward Subrina. That gaze alone warned her not to cause a scene anymore. “Do you want to be seen out with the stun baton?”

Subrina stepped back twice in bewilderment.

She could only grind her teeth and watch the manager take Denver to the VIP lounge on the first floor.

“This way, ma’am,” the assistant manager, on the other hand, respectfully invited Subrina to his office. She kept cursing Denver as she went to the assistant’s room.

The assistant manager gave a soft drink to Subrina which she liked. She didn’t thank him because she believed that she deserved it. And the drink helped her body cool down a little.

The assistant manager tried to personally process the check, but when he checked the balance of the associated account, his expression stiffened for a second. Then he raised his eyebrows and looked at Subrina who was enjoying the drink. “Stop drinking, you wastrel!” he shouted, making her almost spill the drink.

Subrina swallowed the drink and quickly said, “W-Wastrel? Did you just call me a wastrel?” she glared at him. “Do you know who I am?”

“I don’t give a shit. There’s no money in the account of this check holder!” The assistant rebuked her. “The balance is in the NEGATIVE! Forget about a million dollars, you won’t even be able to withdraw a single dollar! Pay for the drink before you leave!”

“W-What?” Subrina’s eyes turned round as the moon, and she was so shocked she couldn’t even blink. “T-That’s not possible. C-Check again.”

“You think I just joined the bank today?” he replied in a cold, angry, and annoyed tone and threw the check across the desk.

Subrina still sat there in shock, sweat drops fighting for a place on her forehead.  “S-Something must be wrong. I’ll talk with my daughter and come back soon.” Saying that she grabbed the check and left in acute anxiety and distress.

Meanwhile, the manager made Denver sit down on the extra-cushioned couch and turned on soft, ambient music which played in the background.

“How’s your business going, sir?” the manager respectfully asked Denver.

“I do the same thing everyday, and I get paid for it,” Denver replied, pinching his clothes at the chest to indicate the job he did.

The manager forced out a smile. He was suspicious of Denver, wondering if this diamond card really belonged to Denver or not. He opened the bank portal on his PC and asked, “Would you mind sharing the password?”

“Password?” Denver frowned. (Shit! That woman didn’t tell me about the password.)

“If you don’t want me knowing it,” the manager turned the PC around, “you can type it yourself.”

Denver typed his name, and it turned out to be an incorrect password. His name was the only thing he remembered, so he couldn’t help but feel anxious now.

“Can you give me your identity card?” The manager’s tone changed. His eyes contained a little bit of doubt in them.

“Uh, I’m sorry. I don’t have it with me now,” Denver replied.

The manager squinted his eyes but then still smiled. “It’s okay. You can try two more times. Just relax for a second and then type the correct password.”

If it was any other card, the manager would have long lost his patience. However, there were only a handful of diamond cards issued all around the world. It was a national bank, but the gold and diamond cards could be used anywhere in the world. So, the manager still did not dare to wear his emotions on his sleeve.

“What about your birth date?” the manager asked. “Is that the password?”

“Birth date…” Denver’s expression stiffened. The only thing he remembered from before losing his memories was his name. But because the manager was staring intensely at him, Denver caved in under the pressure and ended up typing a random birth date, which he soon realized that it was actually Diane’s birth date.

Again, it was an incorrect password.

The manager was beginning to look uneasy. Was there a reason to make Denver attempt a third time? He didn’t think so. “Sir, with all due respect, I think you should leave and find out the password first and then come back.” He was planning on letting Denver go and then calling the cops.

Denver got up from the couch, and his dog tag fell out into view. He was putting it back under his shirt. Just then, he took a look at it and saw the numbers that were embedded onto it with red diamonds. “Let me try one more time,” he quickly said and didn’t even wait for the manager’s reply. He typed in the six digit code.

The sound of logging in was heard, and the manager’s expression completely changed for the better.

He quickly got up from his seat and said, “Please sit down, sir.” He didn’t even need to look at the PC screen to check if the password Denver had entered was correct or not.

Denver, however, was staring at the balance amount that was showing on the computer screen. There were so many zeroes that he couldn’t tell the exact amount in one glance.
