Chapter 3

Melvis was dumbfounded. He was very surprised by the statement of the old man beside him.

"What a Melvis Tucker," Melvis muttered under his breath. Melvis wanted to curse but remembered that he was just an old man who looked vulnerable. His mind was already tired and complicated, but he still had to understand the old man beside him.

Melvis then looked at the old man and laughed at himself. Of course, Melvis did not trust himself with what he heard and understood. Nor did he believe the old man's cursory nonsense speech.

"This reminds me of that day," Melvis thought to himself.

At that time, he had almost been deceived by someone who claimed to know his father well and was extorted. It was too much for Melvis to bear. It made his life difficult.

"My grandson..." Alex spoke in a half-whisper. But the young man ignored his call and quickly stood up.

Melvis stood up, sighing heavily, "Sorry old man, if you want to scam you have the wrong person, I don't have anything for you to drain. Even if I'm poor, I can't be fooled that easily."

"Scam?" said Alex in a whisper. His mind then wandered. He felt increasingly guilty about every bad thing that happened to his only grandson. Alex sighed heavily, his heart instantly becoming pained. He really felt guilty about his selfish decisions in the past.

Melvis muttered, "I should find another job."  Melvis ignored the old man's presence and stepped away from him.

Seeing that Alex didn't want to lose that second chance. The old man straightened his back from the back of the chair. "Arron Tucker, Briana Smith, they are my son and daughter-in-law. They left me and took the last name Briana."

Melvis, who heard that stopped his steps. He was silent. "How much can scammers pry into someone's life?" asked Melvis, who then looked at the old man in disbelief.

"You are Melvis Tucker, 20 years old, studying business at Ustein University, won the silver medal in the math Olympiad at the age of 9. Silver medal in chemistry at 15, gold medal in physics at 17. You managed to qualify for an internship at Bright Electricity Company, what happened after that?"

"B-bright?"

Melvis' mouth dropped open at the mention of the company's name, making him begin to hate the underworld. It was the day he managed to become one of the outstanding students at the university by applying for an internship at the number one electricity company in the country. He had gone through all the tests.

But at the end of the test, when filling in the personal and background data, the results that she had been waiting for with all her heart came along with her dashed hopes. From then on, Melvis was fed up with the corporate slaves who had belittled him.

He had to put his dreams of getting a recommendation from a top company on hold. Melvis started helping with his father's small business, but his father's health worsened. Their business began to go bankrupt, and Melvis went into debt to cover his father's bankruptcy and hospital bills. He became one of the corporate slaves who was always looked down upon.

"What the hell! Are you a spy for the Bright company?!"

The old man now sighed at Melvis' stubbornness. He smiled slightly and stood up. He took something out of his jacket pocket and walked towards Melvis with a limp.

A man dressed in a neat black suit tried to help Alex, he was a loyal aide, but Alex quickly dismissed the man. Alex chuckled, but then he smiled softly. He approached Melvis and patted his shoulder lightly. "Wouldn't it sound more absurd if you accused me of being a spy for Bright's company, young man?" Because Tucker's company is the number one rival of Bright itself."

Melvis knew the largest biogas company owned by Tucker Corp, which was predicted to be Bright's rival for the past ten years. It supplies energy on the smallest islands at a relatively low cost. News of that success led the State to award Tucker Corp two more awards than Bright.

Alex then reached into his coat pocket and showed Melvis a large family photo with only Alex, his late wife, and Melvis' parents.

Melvis, who saw it, was completely dumbfounded. He frowned in disbelief. "Stop playing tricks, old man!" Melvis snapped.

He didn't do that on purpose. His mind was in turmoil. He also felt that everything sounded impossible if he had the Tucker bloodline. "If I'm a Tucker, what have I been suffering for?" Melvis thought irritably.

"You're still being evasive, Melvis Tucker," Alex said in a low voice. He couldn't blame Melvis for that rude response because the guilt was deep in his heart.

Alex tapped Melvis on the shoulder to wake up the silent young man. "If this still makes you doubt, how about we go to the hospital and confirm it with a DNA test, if the photographic evidence doesn't satisfy your trust."

"I'll take this again," Alex said. He took the photo and put it back in his jacket pocket. "Because this is the only photo left for me to remember the two of them." Alex explained. There was a sound of regret there.

It wasn't enough that the old man's confession made him so dumbfounded. Now he was standing next to a classic and luxurious car in Melvis' eyes. A nearby man opened the door for Melvis and then turned to Alex.

"This is your father's favorite car, a 2000 Buggati-Royale. Since hearing the news of his death, I've never used a car other than this." Alex explained in a small voice.

Melvis, still amazed by what was in front of him, did not focus on Alex's words. He sat inside with his eyes wide open, observing every detail of the vehicle design they were riding in.

When he looked back, Melvis realized that two people with the same stature as the driver were riding an equally luxurious car behind them. The two people were taking good care of the old man's car.

Melvis began to realize that the old man beside him was not only wealthy but also a very important person.

Melvis noticed two other cars guiding them left and right as they entered the highway. More was needed to keep them at the back. The other two vehicles were walking side by side on the left and right.

Melvis panicked and started staring at the old man beside him, but his anxiety was only met with Alex's calm smile.

When they arrived at the hospital, Melvis was examined and followed by Alex. Melvis gasped as he realized Alex's game, "I must have been so frustrated that I actually followed him this far," Alex thought with a frantic mind.

Shortly after Alex's session, the old man walked over to Melvis, who had fallen silent in the waiting chair. He held out his hand and handed her a piece of white paper with silver lines, "Call me if you need anything."

Melvis raised his head, his lips frozen, speechless. But his hand moved to take the business card because of his curiosity about his parents' background.

"The DNA test results will be sent directly to your address. You don't have to worry about the cost or anything."

Alex sighed as he gently patted the stunned Melvis on the shoulder. The old man left the hospital hallway with his aide.
