Everything was a blur as Ryan rushed down the hall and burst through the door where they had last left Violet and Edric.
What he had found on the other side was his worst nightmare realized.
Kneeling down as he pulled Violet limply into his arms, he shakily touched the side of her draining face and gently shook her, finding no response. Choking out her name through cracked whispers over and over, he couldn't stop the sudden tears blurring his vision.
