Chapter 9: Mockery

Derek decided against it very quickly. There was no point doing it anyways. It would only cause more problems. Asides, Ann's mind was already made up.

One of the security guards poked at Derek from behind. "Move it!" He yelled.

Derek relaxed and complied.

"Get the idiot out of my house!" Ann shouted with disgust.

Derek didn't say anything as he was led out of the house.

"It's a goodbye to the live-in son-in-law," Ethan laughed in mockery as he was being pulled out of the house.

The security guards led him out of the house and shut the gate against him.

Derek released a sigh. He had nowhere to go because he hadn't settled down and his family house was out of Orange-park.

He picked up his phone and placed a call to Fred. He picked it up immediately as if he was already expecting Derek to call.

"Hello, young master. Are you coming home today?"

"Uh_," Derek hesitated. "No, but I need to find a house as soon as possible."

"Oh," Fred seemed to relax. "Where would you like to go? You could buy from any place. Your bank account has just been credited," he explained.

Just immediately, his phone beeped. He pulled it down to look at the screen. An alert message showed up on the screen.

Credit alert ***567 $800,000,000,000. Available balance $810*****

Happiness surged through him at the message. It has been a while since he handled such a huge amount of money. He had been suffering for five years.

He placed the phone to his ear again."Alright, I will talk to you later then," he finished and hung up.

He was going to get himself a nice house.

.

Ann called Kevin that afternoon after she had successfully sent Derek out of the house.

They both got to the sales center of Bellair. Bellair was a popular community and in fact, the majority of it was owned by the Millers.

Kevin marvelled at the sight and laughed. "Excellent! This is good! I can't imagine getting a house in this neighbourhood," he looked at Ann. "I heard Bellair is a nice community, especially for the rich. Now, Bella would feel good."

Ann's head snapped right at him. "What? Bella? Is that your girlfriend?"

Kevin laughed. "Something has to kill a man, right? Well, Bella is my babe and she deserves to be in Bellair like her name goes."

Ann felt a stab of annoyance. "What! You want to get a house to impress someone?"

Kevin had a dirty smirk on his face. "It doesn't matter. You promised to get me a house and you have to stand by it. Do you remember what is at stake?"

Ann felt like hitting the hell out of him. She had never been so angry. Just as she opened her mouth to say something, the salesperson showed up in front of them.

"How may we help you at Trulia."

Ann adjusted herself and looked at the receptionist. "We want a house from one of the lowest and cheapest ones you have here," she explained.

"No!" Kevin said quickly. "We are buying a bigger and more expensive one."

The salesperson smiled. "Follow me please."

Ann looked at Kevin. "You better not bite more than you can chew!" She muttered with scorn before she hurried after the salesperson.

Kevin laughed as if he couldn't believe it as he walked after them. "Expensive or not, having a house in Bellair and from Trulia was an opportunity of a lifetime."

Ann and Kevin were forced to a sudden stop when they saw Derek discussing with one of the salespeople.

Ann laughed suddenly, unable to stop herself. "Seriously?" She couldn't believe it. "What the fuck are you doing here?"

Kevin hesitated and followed the path of Ann's gaze. "Isn't this Derek, Amelia's husband?"

"Not anymore!" Ann snapped at him. "I just wonder what he's doing here on the day he was kicked out of the house! Isn't this very funny?"

Ann and Kevin walked nearer to Derek.

"What the fuck are you doing here?" Ann questioned with disgust.

"Don't you think he's here to get a house like me?" Kevin replied and chuckled. "Did you give him the money to get a house here and prove to me that he's an excellent son-in-law?"

Ann regarded Kevin for a few seconds before she shouted. "No! Why will I do that? Why will I waste my money on someone like him? Oh," she laughed with scorn. "Did you think he can really afford a house here? He has been a live-in son-in-law that has never contributed to anything in the house for a year!" She expressed with indignation.

Kevin laughed. "This is not only funny but disappointing," he shook his head with pity. "He's as miserable as ever. Yet, he still want to rich. Isn't that one of the most miserable thing ever?"

Derek cleared his throat meaningfully to attract their attention. "Well, point of correction, I can afford a house here. In fact, I know the owner here," he expressed softly.

He got to find out recently that Sophia was the president of Bellair. Though, he's yet to know if Bellair was one of his father's properties or not.

Ann and Kevin burst out laughing really hard.

"Is this for real?" Ann laughed the more.

"I seriously can't believe it! A good for nothing is pretending to be rich!" Kevin snorted in laughter.

"Ma'am, sir," one of the salespeople showed up beside them again. "Would you like to check the houses now? I will get you the pamphlet or you can tell me what you want so we will have someone to drive you there."

Ann watched Derek with scorn for a few minutes. "I want the golden houses," she announced suddenly. She wanted to show Derek that she was rich and there was nothing he could do about it.

"Golden houses?" Kevin raised a skeptical brow at her. He was shocked. Ann had initially announced that she was buying him the lowest house. He wondered what changed her mind."I thought you were buying me the lowest and cheapest house?"

"Shut up! I said I didn't want to but I've changed my mind. At least we have the money to buy it, unlike a pauper here," she mocked.

Kevin jubilated. "That's my dearest sister!"

Derek took a step forward, in confusion. "The golden houses here are very expensive and we have issues with the company. Where will you see the money to pay for the house?"

"It's none of your business, Derek. You should instead leave now and start looking for where you will stay tonight. You don't need to act like you have money here, I know you don't have a penny."

Realization hit in quickly but Derek couldn't believe it. "Don't tell me you are going to use the backup money of the company?"

Ann snorted out loud. "None of your business, boy!"
