Darren stopped at a park because he was instructed by Alex to do so. They got down and got food from the food truck that was packed close to the park. Darren stood close to the car with his eyes fixed on them.Alex gawked at Emma as she munched on the hot dog they had gotten.
"What? Why are you staring at me like that?" She asked as soon as she noticed Alex staring at her.
"Can I tell you the truth?" Alex asked with seriousness on his face.
"Sure! What is it?" Asked Emma as she dropped the remaining hotdog on the paper towel.
"I didn't want to live anymore that morning you saved me. I was ready to die because I had nothing else to live for. I had everything taken away from me by someone who meant everything to me. I thought life didn't want me anymore. But you came out of nowhere and helped me. And I'm grateful that you did. I owe you my life." He said calmly.
"You don't owe me anything. I helped you because it was the right thing to do at that moment. I was scared shitless but I'm happy I did. I don't know who did that to you but now, you have the power to get justice for whoever treated you like that. Besides you have paid me already with everything you did for me and my mom. I don't have to worry about money anymore. You helped me out of financial crises, what more could I ask for?" She said.
"It's alright. They will get the justice they deserve but for now they can enjoy their lives with no knowledge of me alive and wealthy." He said, beaming at Emma. He removed a piece of hot dog bun that was stuck on the side of her lips.
Emma and Alex sat at the park for minutes on end and talked about everything. He finally dropped her off at her apartment and Darren took Alex home.
****
It was the morning of his meeting with the board. He had never been to the company building. He was anxious. He had already met with Mr. Graham, Lucas's father, the Hugh family lawyer, and was assured everything was ready for his arrival. He was briefed on the ins and outs of the company and the fact that the press would be in his face once he was out and they knew who he was.
He got dressed in the designer suit that was handmade for him. He put on his wristwatch and his finest leather shoes. He looked smart and expensive. He took one look at himself and smiled.
"Lookout world! You haven't seen the last of me!" He joyfully said to himself.
He got outside and saw his car. A Bentley was already prepared with Barnabe opening the door for him. His aunt was also dressed in a smart elegant suit fit for her age.
"You are your father's child, it's time to make it official." She said caressing his face before he bent to get in the car. He took his aunt's hand and kissed it.
They drove for about thirty minutes and stopped at a tall building with probably more than sixty floors. It had glass windows from the entrance to the first floor. The name HUGH CONGLOMERATES was written boldly in the middle of the towering building. It was magnificent. They walked into the building and immediately, all eyes were on Alex. The architecture and decor in the lobby was exquisite.
"The board is already situated, Sir." Said one of the secretaries who walked up to us. Alex got in the elevator alongside his aunt. Barnabe stayed back in the lobby.
Alex and his aunt got to the boardroom. All eyes were on Alex immediately as he stepped into the boardroom. He got a seat for his aunt before sitting where Mr. Graham gestured to him to sit.
"So, as you all know, Mr. Williams died two months ago and before he died, he changed his will and made Mr. Frank Cason the CEO. But, he added a clause to his will. In this clause, he stated that if his blood heir should come up, then all rights of his wealth, power, and companies should be willed to him." Mr. Graham continued speaking with the board members' curiosity heightened.
"Well, the reason for this meeting is because, well, Mr. Williams does have a blood-related heir, and he is here with us. He is the young man who walked in with Eleanor Hugh, Mr. William's sister." Mr. Graham wasn't done talking when he was caught short by a loud bang on the table made by Mr. Frank Cason who had been the CEO since the death of William Hugh.
"This is ludicrous! You never liked or wanted me in your family Eleanor or even adorned the fact that Williams gave all these to me, that is why you cooked up this stupid ruse to throw me out. Right?" he was fuming.
"Boy! How much did he pay you to play this foolish game with her? Huh!" He pointed at Alex demanding an answer from him.
Alex snapped at him. "Don't you dare talk to my aunt like that. I'm not your boy" Alex retorted. "I wasn't paid to act or create a ruse to throw you out. My grandfather is Williams Hugh. Yes!, I haven't been around till now and that's because I was hidden away safely till I was ready to come take over." Alex was intimidating in the way he spoke to Mr. Cason.
"I'm the only son of Nathanial Hugh, the son of William Hugh," Alex said sternly. He stood his ground with Mr. Cason, he shocked the rest of the board members. His aunt held her head up showing her admiration for Alexander on how well he handled himself.
The board tried to calm Mr. Cason because of the evidence that was on the ground but he wasn't having it. He got up and stormed out in anger with some of the board members following him in agreement.
"This isn't over! And you will hear from me!" Roared Mr. Cason.
Mr Carson stormed out of the meeting in anger. He never expected that Mr Williams had an heir tucked away somewhere waiting to emerge one day. He left the meeting and a few of his friends who were also board members, who shared his opinion on the matter, left with him. Mr Graham sighed heavily. "Well, that's that. He looked at Eleanor and back to the remaining board members. "Mr. Cason is right in a way Mr Graham, you can't just spring this on us. Why wasn't this read or made known the first time the will was read? This is a huge responsibility and money and shares are at stake." Said one of the members of the board. Mr Graham spoke with them trying to make them understand and see reasons why that part of the will was never said or read. He told them it was all part of Mr. Williams's orders and that he was just simply obeying them. Alex and his aunt Eleanor kept quiet to allow Mr. Graham to do his job. After much talk, they finally agreed with what was written in the will. Mr Gra
"Is a party really necessary, Aunty? I mean I just want to stay low. I don't want the media on my face Aunty" Alex said to his Aunt politely. His aunt had called him to inform him of the party she planned on holding because of Alex. A party showing the whole city and the substantial and affluent people of the city that he was now the CEO of Hugh, and also the Hugh family's long-lost heir. But Alex wasn't so keen on the idea of a party because he didn't want to be seen just yet by Carla, Dawson, or even Carla's family or anyone who knew him with them. He wanted to deal with them secretly until he revealed himself once they were broken. He knew the party would put him in the spotlight and that would kinda twat his plans to get back at them. "I don't really want a party, Aunty. But if you must parade me then can we hold a close party and no media? Please?" Alex inquired of his aunt warmly. "Fine, if that's what you want dear. But I can't guarantee you that the media won't be there b
At The Penthouse; 4 PM Alex and Lucas drove to the penthouse that he wanted to check out. He was ready to pick his place. The best houses were selected and shown to him and he chose this particular one because it was situated in the most secluded and quiet part of the city. Not to mention it was in the most expensive part of the city. They drove right up to the towering building and the valet came up to park their car properly. Alex instructed Darren to drive with the valet to know the proper parking space. An old security man was standing right outside the entrance and he greeted Alex politely, bowing his head, and Alex returned his greeting. They walked into the reception and it was serene and exquisite. From the chandeliers hanging from the ceiling to the marbled floors, it screamed pricey. But above all, it was peaceful. "I can see why this particular building caught your attention out of all the others," Lucas said to Alex, walking behind him and grinning. Alex smiled and ju
"He's no longer the CEO. A new one was appointed today and according to my research, it said that he's the long-lost heir of the Hugh family, Sir.""I see. Did he mention any other reason for the meeting apart from my funding?" He asked pacing around the sitting room. Carla sat but had a worried look on her face because of the way Dawson was reacting to the call."No Sir, just that Sir." "When's the meeting?" "It's tomorrow morning Sir." "Ok Marla, what's the fucking time! I can't just walk to Hugh's office tomorrow morning without a particular time, now can I?" He was getting angry at his assistant."I'm so sorry Sir but I was unable to get that before he ended the call. I tried calling back and no answer came."He fumed and yelled at her over the phone."You are such an incompetent fool, Marla! Sometimes, I wonder why I still keep you around because you fail at your job every fucking day!. You mess up the simplest of tasks!" Carla's curiosity had overridden her at this point that
Mr. Luis got mad seeing he was talking to his boss. "How dare you talk to him…." But Alex just beckoned to him to let Dawson complete his insults."I will tell you right here and right now Mr. Luis, don't offer him any job, he will dupe and scam you people. That's what he does, an unfortunate fellow. He's the poorest person I have ever seen. Probably begging for pennies to save himself." "Aren't you even ashamed of yourself Alex? Begging from pillar to post. Now, because Carla was fed up with you, you decided to latch on to her" Dawson said, pointing at Alex's secretary."He's not latching onto me. Rather, he's my boss, and by the looks of it, I'm sure he's yours too." The Secretary reprimanded Dawson."Boss!" He laughed out loud because he didn't believe the Secretary. "Does this one know the first thing about being a boss? He lost his stupid business because he couldn't handle it. Anyway, I'm not here for him. I have warned you, people, it's now left for you guys to take my advice
He sighed heavily after a while and let go of the bitterness he felt.He requested cookies and coffee from the chef because he had to sort out the list of house managers sent to him by Cameron. He needed to examine them and choose the best one for his house. He finally slumped on his bed in the early hours of the next day.****He woke up at 6 AM because he couldn't sleep anymore. He turned on his bed for a few minutes and then decided to go for a run to put some things off his mind. He wanted to jog around the neighborhood alone but Darren, his personal security and driver wouldn't allow him. He jogged and Darren drove the car behind him in case of anything. He jogged for about an hour taking in the beautiful landscapes and structures around the estate. Darren drove him back to the mansion when he was exhausted. He got home and decided to quickly hit the shower before anything else.Just while he was on his way to his bedroom, he saw a room open at the end of the hall that he hadn't
A sexy young woman stood at the door entrance upon opening the door. It was obvious she was an escort with the kind of outfit she had on."What took you so long? I have been waiting for you for quite some time now." Mr. Cason said to the young lady as she stepped into the hotel room. "I'm sorry, I had something else to do." She replied and sat on the couch. The thug gazed at them and kept mute. He knew the kind of work the lady did. And he knew the kind of man he worked for. So to avoid any further trouble, he kept mute."What are you still doing standing there? Can't you see I have other important things to attend to!" He yelled at him."I'm sorry Sir, I will leave now" He bowed his head, looking away from his face."Find a way out of your mess. I want to hear solutions the next time we meet. Otherwise, it would be your head on the choosing block!" "Yes Sir" The thug bowed and left the hotel. At Emma's residence, her mother had received a huge package for her, and she had just gott
The day of the party finally arrived. It was magnificent. Aunt Eleanor went all out for the party. The party was held at the Hugh estate. It was an invitation-only party, inviting all that were affiliated with the Hugh company to finally see the heir. It was also an avenue for Eleanor to showcase Alexander to her friends and the press even though Alex never wanted that.Dawson received an invitation to the party and didn't understand why. He thought maybe the CEO finally wanted to meet him because all the meetings he tried scheduling with him had seemed fruitless.Dawson drove into the Hugh Compound with Carla by his side. His car was among the least expensive among the luxury cars parked there. The car park smelt of wealth."Watch where you're going, boy!" Yelled one of the guests as Dawson parked too close to one of the cars. His mind was occupied because he was on the brink of losing his company. He simply ignored the man and went on into the house because he didn't want to anger a
