Chapter 9

Darren stopped at a park because he was instructed by Alex to do so. They got down and got food from the food truck that was packed close to the park. Darren stood close to the car with his eyes fixed on them.Alex gawked at Emma as she munched on the hot dog they had gotten.

"What? Why are you staring at me like that?" She asked as soon as she noticed Alex staring at her.

"Can I tell you the truth?" Alex asked with seriousness on his face.

"Sure! What is it?" Asked Emma as she dropped the remaining hotdog on the paper towel.

"I didn't want to live anymore that morning you saved me. I was ready to die because I had nothing else to live for. I had everything taken away from me by someone who meant everything to me. I thought life didn't want me anymore. But you came out of nowhere and helped me. And I'm grateful that you did. I owe you my life." He said calmly.

"You don't owe me anything. I helped you because it was the right thing to do at that moment. I was scared shitless but I'm happy I did. I don't know who did that to you but now, you have the power to get justice for whoever treated you like that. Besides you have paid me already with everything you did for me and my mom. I don't have to worry about money anymore. You helped me out of financial crises, what more could I ask for?" She said.

"It's alright. They will get the justice they deserve but for now they can enjoy their lives with no knowledge of me alive and wealthy." He said, beaming at Emma. He removed a piece of hot dog bun that was stuck on the side of her lips.

Emma and Alex sat at the park for minutes on end and talked about everything. He finally dropped her off at her apartment and Darren took Alex home.

It was the morning of his meeting with the board. He had never been to the company building. He was anxious. He had already met with Mr. Graham, Lucas's father, the Hugh family lawyer, and was assured everything was ready for his arrival. He was briefed on the ins and outs of the company and the fact that the press would be in his face once he was out and they knew who he was.

He got dressed in the designer suit that was handmade for him. He put on his wristwatch and his finest leather shoes. He looked smart and expensive. He took one look at himself and smiled.

"Lookout world! You haven't seen the last of me!" He joyfully said to himself.

He got outside and saw his car. A Bentley was already prepared with Barnabe opening the door for him. His aunt was also dressed in a smart elegant suit fit for her age.

"You are your father's child, it's time to make it official." She said caressing his face before he bent to get in the car. He took his aunt's hand and kissed it.

They drove for about thirty minutes and stopped at a tall building with probably more than sixty floors. It had glass windows from the entrance to the first floor. The name HUGH CONGLOMERATES was written boldly in the middle of the towering building. It was magnificent. They walked into the building and immediately, all eyes were on Alex. The architecture and decor in the lobby was exquisite.

"The board is already situated, Sir." Said one of the secretaries who walked up to us. Alex got in the elevator alongside his aunt. Barnabe stayed back in the lobby.

Alex and his aunt got to the boardroom. All eyes were on Alex immediately as he stepped into the boardroom. He got a seat for his aunt before sitting where Mr. Graham gestured to him to sit.

"So, as you all know, Mr. Williams died two months ago and before he died, he changed his will and made Mr. Frank Cason the CEO. But, he added a clause to his will. In this clause, he stated that if his blood heir should come up, then all rights of his wealth, power, and companies should be willed to him." Mr. Graham continued speaking with the board members' curiosity heightened.

"Well, the reason for this meeting is because, well, Mr. Williams does have a blood-related heir, and he is here with us. He is the young man who walked in with Eleanor Hugh, Mr. William's sister." Mr. Graham wasn't done talking when he was caught short by a loud bang on the table made by Mr. Frank Cason who had been the CEO since the death of William Hugh.

"This is ludicrous! You never liked or wanted me in your family Eleanor or even adorned the fact that Williams gave all these to me, that is why you cooked up this stupid ruse to throw me out. Right?" he was fuming.

"Boy! How much did he pay you to play this foolish game with her? Huh!" He pointed at Alex demanding an answer from him.

Alex snapped at him. "Don't you dare talk to my aunt like that. I'm not your boy" Alex retorted. "I wasn't paid to act or create a ruse to throw you out. My grandfather is Williams Hugh. Yes!, I haven't been around till now and that's because I was hidden away safely till I was ready to come take over." Alex was intimidating in the way he spoke to Mr. Cason.

"I'm the only son of Nathanial Hugh, the son of William Hugh," Alex said sternly. He stood his ground with Mr. Cason, he shocked the rest of the board members. His aunt held her head up showing her admiration for Alexander on how well he handled himself.

The board tried to calm Mr. Cason because of the evidence that was on the ground but he wasn't having it. He got up and stormed out in anger with some of the board members following him in agreement.

"This isn't over! And you will hear from me!" Roared Mr. Cason.
