Chapter eight

Arriving at the mansion shortly after, Adrian is granted access to the compound as he mentioned that it was his grandfather who sent him over. He is ushered into the master suite where he meets with Ulrich. A short and stocky man meets him at the door. "Sir Ulrich is this way," the man said and led him inside the room. Adrian looked at the superb furnishing in a glance but his focus was on the tall and willowy man that looks very pale in the center of the bed.

His eyes are hidden behind a pair of large frames and there is a book in his hands. "Welcome, Adrian, your grandfather said that you would be coming to meet me," he said with what would have been a warm smile if his face wasn't so pale.

"Yes, I came to see you, I apologise that my grandfather has been rather busy," he stated apologetically.

Ulrich smiled and assured him that he understood. "Oh, I know how busy the business world can be, I had to take a break myself from all that stress," he stated softly.

Adrian nodded and asked the old man if he could examine him for a bit. The man agreed and Adrian went about to check his blood pressure, and his heartbeat and also asked for his previous reports from the nurse. Checking his physical symptoms, he knew at once that Ulrich was very sick and he needed urgent medical care.

He was just going through his reports, learning about his condition more clearly, he decided that he had to break the news to him but he didn't have the chance to. At this time, the door to the suite opened, and in walked someone that Adrian would never have expected to see. "Regina?" He breathed to himself as he saw her waltz into the room.

She was dressed in a floral gown and the servant behind her was wheeling a luggage. "Oh, grandfather, I had to come the second that I heard your health wasn't improving," she said in a sweet tone and kissed the old man's palm.

"Oh, darling, an old friend sent someone to visit me today," Ulrich said and gestured at Adrian who was still in the center of the room. He hadn't said a word since Regina arrived.

Regina glared at him but mentioned that she knew him or they had once been married. "You should be careful of those that visit you when you're sick, grandfather," she said and scowled at Adrian.

"Oh don't worry. He's a good lad. It's my good friend, Gerald, that sent him here. He even took my reports and also checked my symptoms," he stated.

"Which reminds me, I was about to tell you that your health situation is twice as bad as you believe. The doctors have not been taking your condition seriously. All your symptoms show that you need urgent medical care and you should be taken to the hospital," Adrian stated, looking at the reports again.

"But the doctors have been coming to give me my meds daily, they have also changed my diet and all," the old man said.

Adrian shook his head, "You will need a lot more than that. You need to be under a professional who will be able to give you the right prescriptions and you may also need surgery. But if you wish, I could cure you," he stated.

That was when Regina decided that she'd heard enough. In all the years that she'd been married to him, she never knew that he had any talent with medicine and so she didn't believe him at all. "Are you mocking my grandfather? What do you know about health?!" She snapped angrily.

"That is irrelevant. All you need to know is that the doctors aren't doing a good job and Mr Ulrich might be getting worse," Adrian stated.

Regina snapped at him to keep shut. "You're just a shameless man! How dare you try to take advantage of my grandfather? Adrian, you know nothing about medicine!" She snapped.

"What are you talking about, dear? Do you know this man?" Ulrich asked. Regina itched to tell her grandfather that she knew him and he was no better than a bum on the street.

"Grandfather, please believe me when I say that such a low-class person could never know about your condition. He has no experience in the medical field and he's just here trying to take advantage of you and mock you," she said angrily and glared at Adrian.

"How would you know that, Regina? You have just arrived to visit him, do you know the state of his health?" He asked her with a raised brow.

"Nonsense! I don't have to be here to know that my grandfather is in safe hands, we have hired the best of doctors just to make sure that he is alright. You can't know better than those doctors, you're just a gold digger and a liar! I don't know what grandfather's friend would send you down here!" She snapped.

Adrian looked at her, he remained calm despite her angry and insulting nature. "I bet you that in just a few days, a week at most, your grandfather will spit blood and faint. His sickness will get even worse," he said and with that, turned to leave her suite. Being in the same room with Regina made him pissed. He couldn't stand her ignorance and condescending behaviour.

Ulrich was too weak to say anything, he leaned back on his bed and pulled off his glasses. Regina rubbed his hands and told him he'd be fine.

As Adrian walked out, Regina sneered at him angrily "I will make you regret coming here," she said in a cold tone. She quickly pulled out her phone and dialled her father who was also a very rich and powerful man. "Dad, there is someone here who is trying to make a fool of grandfather because of his sickness," she said.

Her father sounded mad over the phone and asked at once who that was. Regina smirked as she replied, "It's Bryan, I want him to be taught a lesson! He must learn to be afraid of the Lawson family."
