Chapter 10

"Huh? Yes, I mean no," Thyme stammered. Kelvin stared at him suspiciously. "You'd better keep what you hear for your own good," he warned coldly. Thyme was stunned for a few seconds before turning back to face him. "What do you mean by that, sir?" he asked sternly. Kelvin smirked and stood up, walking closer to him. Thyme could feel his heart pounding. He felt a cold and dangerous aura around Kelvin. "This is really happening again!" he thought, feeling a headache coming on. "Don't try me, young man," Kelvin spoke frankly.

Thyme didn't like being threatened, so he spoke up. "Sir, I would appreciate it if you respected yourself. I am a citizen and I also have rights."

"You could be sued for threatening," Thyme tried to say, realizing how stupid it was to threaten the richest man. Kelvin laughed out loud, confusing Thyme even more. "I know you're a spy. I'll see how you continue when you get sued. It's the other way around this time. You dared to speak to me that way, so let me give you a taste of your own medicine," Kelvin said, then walked back and sat down, watching Thyme's disarrayed face.

Thyme's mind processed what he had just heard, thinking about the implications. "Is he going to arrest me?" the thought kept ringing in his head. "What's wrong, young man?" Rose asked, seeing that he was lost in thought. "Nothing, ma'am," he tried to smile. "Okay then, please help me get these things from the supermarket down the street," she gave him a list and some money. He nodded and left.

"Lisa!" Mona stared at her in shock after finding out she had been listening the whole time. "Who are Mr. Bruce and Mrs. Emma? And why is mom saying you are a killer, dad?" Lisa choked back tears while speaking. "It's not what you think," Mona tried to move closer to her, but Lisa staggered backward. "What have you done? And why is my life at risk?" Lisa shouted. "Lisa, please just hear me out," Daniel finally spoke, trying to move closer to her, but she ran out of the building. "Lisa!" they both shouted, but they couldn't see her when they went outside.

Mona faced Daniel with tears already falling. "You must find my daughter, or else you and your so-called boss will burn in hell," she threatened before walking away. Daniel stood there, rubbing his temple in frustration before screaming, "Argh!"

Lisa couldn't control her tears as she continued to cry on the lonely streets. She couldn't process everything she had just heard from her parents. "Wait, who are Mr. Bruce and Mrs. Emma?" she kept asking herself. "Hey, beauty, what are you doing on a lonely street like this?" a man said, followed by three more men. They were obviously street touts. Lisa's heart leaped with fear as she staggered backward. The men began moving closer. "Don't come near me," she warned. "We won't hurt you, kitten," one of the men smiled like a fool.

Lisa didn't hesitate to run away. She turned back and realized the men were chasing her and were very fast. She started to get scared; she wasn't a good runner.

Halfway there, she stopped to catch her breath. She turned back but didn't see the men anywhere, though she could hear their footsteps. Struggling to try running again, someone pulled her into a corner, covering her mouth as she tried to scream. When she saw the person's face, she was stunned. "Are you okay, miss?" the man asked. "Oh, thank you, sir," she stared at him. "Thyme, right? The chef at the party," she asked, and he nodded. "See you soon. I have to deliver something quickly," he smiled before leaving. Her mind flashed to what she had heard from her parents as she started walking back home.

Thyme walked into the building and was immediately greeted by a maid who told him the boss wanted to see him. His heart started beating fast; he wished he had never confronted him. He walked to his room and knocked. "Come in," a voice said. Holding the knob, he held his breath for a few seconds before going in. "Sir, you called for..." he couldn't complete his statement when Kelvin threw an envelope at him. "You're sacked," he dropped the bombshell.

"But sir, I'm sorry for invading your private life," he begged. "Well, that's too late now. You dared me, and I did what was right. Besides, when you find a new job," he stopped talking, a smirk on his face. "What am I even saying, you can't have a job again," he laughed. Thyme couldn't help but think about what he just said. "What did he mean by 'you can't have a job any longer?'" he asked, annoyed. "Well, I just taught you a little lesson. You should learn from it in your next life," he smiled. "Now please get out of my room before you're forced to do so," his face became serious again. Thyme stared at him with hatred before walking out.

At night, Thyme could be seen drunk as he staggered home. "Why is my life so wretched wherever I go?" people stared at him and moved away. Finally getting home, he locked his door and started throwing things around. "I don't have anyone. I get into trouble with any job I take. My girlfriend left me for a rich man," he couldn't help but think. "Now that I can't get a job anywhere, it's better to end my life," he sighed as a tear dropped from his eyes. He sighed loudly and staggered to the kitchen.
