Chapter 30

“Raise your head," Adam said.

The face I once laughed at had become one of terror and I hesitated for a moment, unsure of whether I wanted to meet his cold, calculating eyes. But I knew I had no choice. I slowly lifted my head, meeting his intense gaze with my own.

"How did you end up with such a jerk?" Adam asked, his tone softening slightly as he looked at me with a hint of sympathy.

I averted my eyes, unable to meet his gaze any longer. A lot was running through my head at that moment. How could someone from the seemingly perfect Webby household end up in a situation like this? Drunk and pruned to danger? How could a man with all the money, fame, and power be so broken on the inside?

"Hope I wasn't a problem," Adam’s voice interrupted my thoughts, pulling me back to reality.

"Apart from the one you caused with my husband," I retorted, unable to keep the bitterness out of my voice.
