Chapter Sixty-Five

During dinner, Milton Jackson pretended everything was okay. But deep down, he wanted to slam the table and ask his family what they have been up to.

Samantha’s left hand on top of his thigh would have been the trigger, but he pulled himself together.

Bryson was chatting too much while Roger Jackson was sucking on the meat flesh as if it would give him life.

Lucinda was watching them like a hawk.

The other employees were just staring, thinking, “such a sweet happy unique family.”

How lovely.

After dessert was served, Roger asked Milton, “is the flower industry better than what we are doing?”

Milton waved at him, hoping he didn’t look like an animated cartoon trying to save himself. “You know me, uncle. I am testing the waters.”

Bryson leaned back, scooped his lemon ice cream, swallowed, and mentioned sarcastically, “don’t be a show-off.”

Milton could swear he saw Samantha glaring at Bryson, but perhaps it was just his mind playing games at him.
