Chapter Sixty-Six

The car stopped in traffic and Ronae entered. “You do have a death wish, no?” Milton asked nonchalantly.

Surprising Ronae into thinking, “he is too calm with a stranger.”

The car moved, and Ronae leaned forward, her voice trembling, “oh, son. I have missed you.”

Milton’s heart skipped a bit. “Mom?”

Ronae Spade had a poker face on. Milton lifted his hand and caressed her face.

Unable to hold it anymore, Ronae threw her head back and let out a roar of laughter.

“Oh, you are so easy to fool.” She uttered while cleaning the tears from her cheek. “We don’t have that much age gap, man. How could I be your mother?”

Milton’s shoulder slumped. The exhaustion was beginning to hit him in full force.

Ronae Spade looked at the rearview and then ordered the driver, “loose them.”

“Now, where were we?” Ronae started.

Milton leaned backward.

“Right. Work with me, dear. I will protect you at all costs. You shall never be taken for granted again.” Ronae said, smiling goofily.
