“Well, Scrappy here wanted to smash my face, right? How about you smash his instead? Keep going until he’s unrecognizable. You’ve got only one chance.”

Joseph said, his tone still casual.

“Scrappy, man, I’m sorry! I’ve got no choice! If I don’t do this, neither of us is getting out of here!”

The blond thug was practically sobbing as he turned to Scrappy and slapped him across the face.

Scrappy was stunned, his mind unable to process what had just happened.

“Not bad, but your aim and strength need work. Don’t just hit the cheeks—focus on the nose and eyes. Those are the weak points.”

Joseph advised nonchalantly.

Taking the hint, the blond thug landed two more punches squarely on Scrappy’s nose and eyes, sending stars spinning in Scrappy’s vision.

“Sorry, man, I’m so sorry!”

The blond thug continued raining down blows, his voice choked with tears.

“Good, just like that. Don’t stop.”

Joseph nodded in approval.

“Brother-in-law, if this keeps up, won’t he end up killing him?”

Crash! Raymond hurled the glass in his hand to the floor, shattering it into pieces.“Fuck! Is he an idiot? Doesn’t he have over ten men under him? And they couldn’t handle one Joseph? Joseph even beat him up and escaped?” Raymond fumed, his anger boiling over.“I can’t explain it either. Scrappy’s always been reliable—he’s known for being ruthless and efficient, which is why I chose him for the job this time. They claim it wasn’t their incompetence, but Joseph’s cunning.” Jonathan’s face was burning with shame.“Where is Scrappy now?” Raymond asked.“He’s badly injured. They had to take him to the hospital.” Jonathan replied.“Useless! All of them!” Mr. Kim spat in disgust. He had intended to teach Joseph a lesson, but things had gone completely awry.“Mr. Kim, don’t worry. Once Joseph starts at the university, I’ll have my people deal with him. I’ll make sure he can’t compete with you for Alice.” Jonathan’s eyes glinted with malice.“That’s the only option now. But who are yo

But even though bro-in-law’s gone, we can still drop by and mooch a meal from time to time.”“Sis, if you’re ever craving his cooking, I can take you along!”Heidi spoke with a mischievous smile.“Take me along? Is that really okay?”Fiona paused, surprised.“Why not? Bro-in-law’s not the type to be stingy.”Heidi shrugged nonchalantly.“No, I’d rather not. I don’t want to see him.”Fiona shook her head.“Alright.”“Oh yeah, sis, I heard that Charles Martin is back. He’s going to be teaching at Nova University. Has he reached out to you?”Heidi asked, remembering something.“He called, but we haven’t met up.”Fiona replied.“Sis, be careful dealing with him. He’s nothing like bro-in-law.”Heidi’s face suddenly grew serious, her tone biting.“You seem to have a strong opinion about him.”Fiona remarked, reading into her

But before he could, a sweet fragrance wafted from behind, and a pair of soft hands covered his eyes."What are you sneaking around for, not sleeping?"Joseph chuckled softly."How could a woman sleep soundly when her man is out late?"Alice's voice was playful, with a hint of mischief."Alright, enough fooling around. Let me turn on the lights."Joseph gently pried Alice’s hands from his eyes and, turning around, patted her head in the dark."Silly, the switch is over here. Let me do it."Alice giggled as she turned to switch the lights on. But before she could take two steps, a strong tug from behind yanked her back by her robe."Ah!"In an instant, she toppled backward toward Joseph.Reacting instinctively, Joseph caught her, and to prevent her from hitting the ground, he adjusted his fall so that Alice landed on top of him. With a sharp shriek, the emergency backup lights flickered on.Thud!Joseph ended up flat on the floor, with Alice sprawled on top of him."Joseph... are you o

Joseph was confused, unsure of what Alice was planning. She was always full of surprises."I won’t open the door unless you turn them off. If you don’t, I’ll stay in here and won’t come out."Alice’s tone suggested she was pouting, determined to get her way.Sighing, Joseph pulled out his phone and turned off all the lights."They’re off."In the darkness, Joseph spoke.Moments later, the door creaked open, and Alice stepped out. In the dim night, Joseph could just make out her shy expression."Joseph, I’ve heard that if a man suppresses his desires for too long, it’s bad for his health."Alice stood before him, her head slightly lowered, her face flushed red as she mustered the courage to speak.Joseph froze, his mind reeling. What on earth was Alice trying to say?"Well, medically speaking, it’s true that suppressing a man’s desires for too long isn’t good for his health."Joseph responded instinctively to Alice's words."Then... close your eyes!"Alice glanced at him nervously, her

"I’m going to bed now. We have class tomorrow. You should get some sleep too. We’ll go to school together in the morning."With that, Alice made a playful face at Joseph and disappeared into her room.Joseph glanced at his shoulder, noticing the bite mark had actually drawn blood. She hadn’t held back at all—it was a pretty vicious bite.He couldn’t help but wonder what promises he had made to her in the past that she had held onto for so long, while he himself had forgotten.Sighing, Joseph headed back to his room.Lying in bed, he replayed Alice’s words in his mind. Somewhere along the line, he drifted off into a deep sleep.---By seven the next morning, Joseph was up, preparing a hearty breakfast.Despite the lack of sleep, he didn’t feel much of an impact. Alice glanced at the time. “Looks like it’s about time to go. If not, it’s okay,” Alice asked as they got into the car, suddenly remembering his earlier promise.“Of course, we have time. I made sure to leave a little extra. It won’t take long.”“Come over here and lie down on the seat,” Joseph instructed, rolling up the windows and reclining the back seats. Thankfully, the car had enough space in the back; otherwise, it would’ve been a tight fit.“Alright,” Alice said obediently, climbing into the back and lying down as instructed.“Uh... Joseph, do I need to take off my clothes?” she asked innocently.Cough. “No, no need for that. This is just a quick massage, no need to get too formal,” Joseph replied, slightly flustered.“So for a formal massage, I’d have to take them off? I kind of want to try th

"You’re absolutely right. Men may seem tough, but certain damage is irreversible.""My sister here speaks from experience. Don’t mind us being nosy."With a final word, the two women bustled away, leaving Alice stomping her foot in frustration."It’s not what you think!"She was both mortified and furious—how could a simple massage be so easily misunderstood?"Alice, come on. Don’t worry about them."Joseph, having overheard the entire exchange, couldn’t help but smile."Ugh! This is so infuriating. It’s nothing like what they think. "What's going on over there? Why are so many people gathered?"Joseph glanced toward the school gates, where a large group of students was crowded around the notice board, discussing something animatedly."I’m not sure. The math department’s building is near the west gate, and that notice board is specifically for math department announcements."Alice followed his gaze, her curiosity piqued."Is that so?"Joseph raised an eyebrow."Let’s go check it out."Alice, normally not one to get involved in crowds, suddenly felt a surge of interest. It seemed that since Joseph entered her life, even the most mundane things had taken on a new sparkle.Sometimes, things that seem dull when done alone can be entirely different when shared with someone else.Grabbing Joseph’s arm, Alice led him toward the crowd.A group of students had gathered around the notice board, engaged in animated discussions. At the front of the group stood several professors, their faces weary from lack of sleep, their ey

Let me tell you the whole story." Heidi plopped down beside him and began recounting everything about Joseph's upcoming blind date. After listening quietly, Old Mr. Cooper let out a long sigh. "Ah... I knew it. The moment he stepped away from the Cooper family, he started to shine." "Your sister’s biggest mistake in life was letting him go."He looked at her with a mixture of regret and foresight. "Girl, let me tell you this — this is just the beginning. From now on, more and more women will come into his life, and many of them will rival your sister in beauty and wealth."Heidi gave a bitter smile. "What can we do? That’s his blessing, not ours.""There may be nothing we can do — but you can." The old man’s eyes twinkled with something unspoken."Me?" Heidi blinked, surprised. Though Grandpa had hinted at this

You take it.” “Suddenly, I feel much better,” Old Mr. Cooper said, his spirits lifting the moment Joseph took the check, as if a great weight had been lifted from him.Joseph couldn’t help but feel a bit exasperated.“Grandpa, I’ve asked the servants to bring your lunch in. If there's nothing else, I’ll go have lunch with my brother-in-law,” Heidi said softly.“Go on, don’t worry about this old man. You young people should enjoy your time together,” the old man replied with a wistful sigh. “Heidi’s already eighteen now. Not a little girl anymore.”That last comment struck Joseph as a bit odd, as though the old man were deliberately reminding him of something. He glanced deeply at Heidi — their eyes met, and for a brief moment, neither looked aw

Joseph smiled bitterly as he explained. As they walked toward Old Mr. Cooper’s room, Joseph recounted the details of the so-called blind date to Heidi."So that’s how it is. Brother-in-law, sounds like you were just used as someone’s shield." "But… aren’t most of the professors at Nova University’s medical school already in their mid-thirties or older?" Heidi looked puzzled. Joseph was so young—surely no one would set him up with someone that much older?"Ahem… There’s one who’s quite young at the School of Modern Medicine." Joseph cleared his throat."School of Modern Medicine… young?" Heidi frowned, trying to recall. After a moment, a name came to her."You mean that Mason Alvarez? He instinctively picked up his phone and angled the screen toward his face like a mirror.Only after doing so did he realize how ridiculous the gesture was."Professor Wilson, are you messing with me? How could anything be written on my face?" Flushing with embarrassment, Brady scratched the back of his head."Hahaha… Professor Rogers, I meant that your emotions show clearly on your face—not that there's actual writing there." Joseph chuckled, thoroughly amused by his colleague’s reaction."Well, you’re not wrong. I do have something I’d like to talk to you about. Could I borrow three or four minutes of your time?" Brady asked earnestly."Three or four minutes? That’s just about the length of a song. We’ve got plenty of time before class—go ahead." Joseph checked his watch and nodded."Yes, just the length of a song. May I have that

Are you feeling unwell?" Mason repeated patiently."Really? I don’t think so. I feel fine—maybe the kitchen was just a bit too warm." Molly touched her cheeks, trying to explain away her embarrassment."Molly, I feel like there’s a surge of energy rushing straight to my head." Mason suddenly pulled her into his arms, their bodies pressed close together."Ah!" Molly let out a soft gasp at the sudden embrace."Alright, stop fooling around. Her daughter had many good traits, but her gluttony was incurable.Leah stepped closer and peered into the bowl. She blinked at the dark liquid—yes, it looked like medicine, but the aroma was far too enticing."Medicine that smells this good? Maybe... I should taste it?" She stared at the bowl with a thoughtful expression."Are you crazy? You want to drink medicine now?" Molly was half amused, half exasperated."But it looks really tasty!" Leah protested."This is your Uncle Mason’s prescription. If you drink it, what’s he supposed to take?" Molly rolled her eyes."Fine then! So you're saying this was prescribed by Alice’s boyfriend? For Uncle Mason?" Leah tilted her head upward, her tone suddenly serious."Yes, A

"I thought I was already ahead of my classmates, but with your help, I feel like I can finish the entire theoretical part of this project tonight if I work another two hours.""Tomorrow, I’ll head to the lab, and that should wrap things up. The core of this project is theoretical anyway—the experimental part is minimal.""That’s great. Come on, let’s eat first." Joseph suggested.Alice agreed and took her seat at the table."Joseph, try this!" She beamed, placing a bite of food into his bowl."Delicious. You've improved a lot. Just then, Leah wandered over, stretching her neck to peek into the kitchen, her face full of curiosity."What else could it be? It’s medicine!" Molly tugged Leah away from the kitchen."But how can medicine smell so good? Isn’t it supposed to be bitter?" Leah glanced longingly over her shoulder, confusion written all over her face."That’s the prescription Alice’s boyfriend wrote for your Uncle Mason. It does smell good, doesn’t it? As for why... your mom’s got no idea." Molly replied as she sat at the dining table, dishing food onto Leah’s plate."Alice’s boyfriend?" He asked softly, a faint blush coloring his cheeks.Upon hearing this, Alice buried her face shyly into Joseph's chest."I don't know. I've never tried it... so I want to. I just don't know what it feels like." Her voice was barely audible, muffled against his chest. Though her dorm mates often joked lewdly, this was the first time she had ever talked about such things with a man.She wasn’t even sure where her courage had come from—to say these things to Joseph."So that means you do want to." Seeing her bashful expression, Joseph suddenly found himself less embarrassed."Sometimes I think about it..." Alice murmured, then added with uncharacteristic boldness, "That old hag Mason Alvarez said
