CHAPTER 07

Ulmer never kissed a woman before.

Not counting his family members., the only woman who ever kissed him on the cheek was Brianna.

So, right now, Ulmer was goggle-eyed when a strangely pretty woman not only pushed him down to the ground but also gave him a very hard kiss that made both of them exchange each other’s breaths.

On top of that, she did not get up but just kept staring at him with mild shock in her eyes.

Ulmer could see that she was a bit embarrassed and shocked by what happened.

“A-Are you going to get up?” he asked her.

“U-Um, I’m sorry,” she quickly got up. She had a long ponytail, and she was wearing loose jeans. Her hair was so dark, shiny, and long that it naturally caught his attention. It’s not a fake wig, right? Because he had some women fool men with wigs.

“It’s okay,” Ulmer got up to his feet. He was four inches taller than her, who was 5 foot seven inches.

“No, it’s not okay. We kissed each other,” the young brunette said rather innocently. “You should marry me.”

“Not a big deal,” Ulmer said and then blinked twice. “Wait, what?”

“You kissed me, so you should marry me,” she said.

“Huh? What sort of logic is that?” Ulmer frowned. “Besides, you’re the one who pushed me down and then kissed me!”

“I know, that’s why I’ll take responsibility and marry you!” she said confidently all of a sudden as if her mood changed. “You look like an ‘outsider,’ but since you don’t have a ring on your fingers, I take it that you’re not married. It’s going to be troublesome, but let me take you to my home. I’ll tell my parents, and they’ll talk with the elders and arrange our marriage.”

“Whoa, whoa, hold your horses, girl,” Ulmer said. “We just kissed. And it’s just a mistake. There’s no need to marry.”

“How can you say that?” She covered her mouth with her hands. “How will you be able to kiss another woman with those lips that kissed me? Are you a pervert? We put perverts in jail, you know? Do you want to end up in jail?”

Ulmer felt like he was losing brain cells. How could a woman who looked so pretty talk so nonsensically? The best thing he could do right now was turn back and walk away.

“Husband, don’t turn your back on me,” she followed him.

“Who are you calling your husband!” Ulmer stopped and barked at her. “I don’t even know your name.”

“Young man,” just then, an old man passing by intervened and said, “you should learn some chivalry. If some mistake happened, then you should consult adults and ask for their counsel so you can make a better decision. Don’t make that young girl cry.”

“My name is Ayana,” the girl began to shed tears. “If you don’t marry me, I’m going to stay single for the rest of my life.”

“Y-You can’t be serious, right?” Ulmer couldn’t believe what he was hearing. And more and more people began to gather around him and tell him that he should take responsibility for what happened, and that it was God’s will that they ended up kissing. “Just what kind of a city did you bring me into, Dove!” He could only curse the spirit system in his mind. He didn’t come here to marry anybody but to get revenge on Brianna for killing his parents and sister with utter cruelty. While their deaths were still very fresh in his mind, how could he think about marrying some woman even if she happened to be quite pretty?

But almost a dozen men escorted Ulmer and Ayana to her home.

It turned out that her house was a small house, but their garden was big, with many vegetable and fruit plants growing everywhere, and there were hens and roosters roaming about, with little chicks following them wherever they went.

It was a very peaceful house.

The men told Ayana’s parents what happened.

Ayana had two siblings. Kale was a 14-year-old boy, while the youngest Suki was eight years old. Her parents were Dustin and Robin Revers.

After everyone left, Ulmer found himself sitting on the bed in the hall, with Suki sitting on one side and grabbing his arm. She was smiling at him as if he was her new brother-in-law. “Should I call you Brother-in-law Ulmer or Uncle Ulmer?

“You will call him Brother-in-law Ulmer!” Ayana quickly said.

“But Uncle Ulmer is easy on the tongue, sis,” Suki said. “Aunt Ayana is also better sounding than Sister Ayana.”

“You little…” Ayana pulled both of her cheeks until she apologized.

Ulmer didn’t say anything, or rather, he couldn’t.

Robin brought milk mixed with almond powder and gave it to Ulmer and said, “Drink half and give the rest for Ayana. Newly wed couples do this sort of a thing in this city.”

Ulmer’s mouth opened in amazement. How could these people already accept him as their son-in-law when they didn’t even know who he was other than knowing his name? Was it that they were extremely gullible? Or was there something else?

Whatever it was, Ulmer couldn’t act rashly with these people when they were being so overwhelmingly kind to him, which was quite different from the way his family treated him. Is this God’s way of giving him some family?

A lot of thoughts rushed through Ulmer’s mind, and he ended up drinking all of the milk.

“Son-in-law, you forgot to leave half for your wife,” Robin quickly said.

“It’s okay, Mama,” Ayana said. “Go and bring another glass. I’ll take half of that.”

Ulmer’s eyes widened a bit. (How am I going to escape from these people?)
