Chapter 4

"Why did you drop the vase and push me?" George asked quietly,  causing Greg's mouth to twitch.

Of course, he didn't do that! But who would stand by his side?

"You're the one who—"

BRUK!

Before he could say anything to defend himself, he heard the sound of something falling, and when he turned around, it was Granny Millen who had fallen!

"Mother!" shouted Mrs. Millen, who looked panicked and tried to wake her mother-in-law but failed.

The old woman still hadn't woken up.

"Oh, no! Mother!!!" said Mr. Millen, who was no less panicked than his wife as he bent down and checked on his mother.

The man immediately breathed a sigh of relief when he found out his mother had only passed out.

The relief didn't last long when he noticed that people only surrounded him in shock without helping.

"Hey… Why are you all just looking? Didn't you see that my mom just fainted?! Payton, come bring my mom to her room!" He says angrily to one of the servants.

"Yes sir!" The servant, who had watched in astonishment, finally brought herself together and answered while supporting Grandma Millen along with the other maids.

"And...ugh you..." Mr. Millen stopped while trying to remember the name of the young man in front of him.

"David, Mr. Millen," he answered.

"Oh, yeah, David. Please call for a doctor, it looks like George needs stitches!"

"Okay, no problem!" said David as he walked out and called the doctor.

"And you…!" said Mr. Millen while pointing at Greg with shaking fingers.

"Didn't I tell you before not to make trouble here?! But look at what you've done!

You knocked my mom out on her birthday and even sent my son to the hospital!"

"But it's not my fault, he fell by himself and dragged me and—"

"SILENTTT!!!” Mr. Millen roared at the top voice.

"YOU… Ugh, this is why I never wanted you as my son-in-law from the start. People like you can only cause turmoil and blame people when they do something wrong!

I don't know what my father was thinking by making you marry my daughter!" The man said while squeezing his brow in distress before calling his daughter.

"Georgia?"

"Yes, Father?" asked Georgia, who had been silent the whole time.

"Take your husband out of here! I don't want to see a poor and soon-to-be murderer in the same room with me!" Mr. Millen said with obvious disgust.

"Yes, Father." Bowing her head low and feeling even more ashamed, Georgia pushed Greg hard toward the exit.

She swore she would divorce Greg, no matter what Grandma said! She couldn’t bear it ANYMORE!

Once outside the building, Greg tried to explain. “But, Georgia, I'm not the one at fault here. You saw the whole fight, right? You know that I—"

"I said LET'S GO HOME, GREG! You…Ugh…Why is it so hard for you to listen to me at once?" said Georgia before she turned and stormed away.

"Oh...sh*t...Georgia," he mumbled as he pursued his wife.

.

"Georgia!"

Georgia, who was called, didn't answer and kept walking but Greg didn't give up and kept chasing her.

"Georgia, listen to me I–" Greg stopped talking when he saw tears start to fall from her eyes. His wife is crying!

"What now?" She asked weakly, her beautiful face looked really tired. "Are you trying to find another excuse to defend yourself?"

Before Greg could answer her, Georgia started to laugh like a maniac before it turned into a mournful cry.

"You know..." She said as she averted her gaze.

"Back then… I only married you because my grandfather told me to … and because he insisted that you are a good man... I did it and left Victor because I didn't want to disappoint him, but it turned out…

HE WAS WRONG!" she said with high pitch in the end, her chest rising and falling pretty fast as she tried to hold back her emotions.

"Greg. I regret marrying you! I should have listened to myself and my parents back then!"

"Georgia…" Greg said while holding his wife's hands. "I'm sorry, really. Please don't cry, I'd do anything to make up with you!"

"Anything?" Georgia asked him weakly.

"Yes, Georgia. Anything," Greg said sincerely as he looked at her with tender eyes.

"Then… I want to divorce you, Greg."

"What?" Greg was taken aback, he didn't expect that his wife would ask about divorce!

"I will immediately deliver it to our, ah, I mean your house!"

"Georgia, listen. We can still talk about it, we can still keep our marriage together!"

"Greg, there's nothing to talk about in this matter. I never loved you from the start, and you... You never did anything good to me either!

All you can do is attract trouble, which leads everyone to humiliate and laugh at me for having a husband like you, so please…

Let me go!" Georgia said to him as she yanked his hand away from her and walked away, leaving Greg alone.

"Ouch! That's pretty sad!" exclaimed someone who had been standing behind him.

"Dylan… Look, I'm not in the mood or in any other mood to talk to you, if you have nothing else to say but persuade me… then leave me alone!" Greg said emotionlessly.

"But Greg, try to think about your father’s offer one more time. If you accept it, you can make Georgia and her family change their minds about you. It can save your marriage!"

Greg kept silent.

He had done everything he could think of for Georgia. Watching out for her when she went to work, preparing nutritious meals for her, doing laundry for her, providing her with every penny he had … the story can go on and on through the years, but somehow she didn’t take them into her heart.

All she remembered were the troubles that came his way and the humiliation that followed. But he couldn’t blame her.

If going back home to take over the family business could help her out of the situation, he could give it a try, after all.

Yeah. He needed to think carefully and then sit down to talk with Georgia.

However, Georgia didn’t return home that evening.

He phoned Georgia several times but she didn’t answer any of it.

Just when he was getting really worried and decided to call the police or Georgia’s parents …

Ting tong!

Suddenly his doorbell rang.

Greg's heart almost stopped when he found out that it was his father-in-law! "Father, I was just about to call you to ask about Georgia …," but Mr. Millen interrupted immediately.

"Don’t call me father, you’re not … “qualified”.As for Georgia, she had finally decided to divorce at all cost."

Greg’s heart fell to hell.

"I don't want to stay here for long, it stinks, I just want to give this to you," said Mr. Millen while handing a folder to Greg.

Greg's eyes inevitably widened when he saw its contents.

They were divorce papers, and they even had Georgia's signature on them!

"Georgia signed it, we just need your signature, and after that you must come to the court tomorrow at 11 a.m to start the procedure." Mr. Millen said flatly to him.

"But…"

"Greg, listen," Mr. Millen said, holding his nose high. "I had thought I lost Georgia forever when she married a loser like you, but now that she stands up for herself and insists on divorcing you, I feel quite happy for her. Although folks will laugh at her and our family in the short while, she will be able to marry rich men like Victor in the future and live the happy life she deserves.

Sign them, Greg, Georgia isn’t meant for you, a loser like you really doesn't deserve her!"
