Chapter 5

The news of Bryn Empire accepting the approval for a collaboration with Timeless Fashion spread through the entire city. 

Everyone was fully aware that there was a new president of the company, but no one could fathom why he chose to collaborate with such a small company which set Grandma Maria at the edge. 

As soon as Lisa heard the news, she was so excited and had to immediately call Harry. 

“ Hello, Harry, where are you!! ”. She yelled at the top of her voice unable to contain her excitement. 

“ I am at work, is there a problem”.

“ I got a deal with Bryn Empire!”.

“ Oh! I see… ”.

“ It is the biggest fashion company and with this, I no longer need Jeff's help”.

“ See…. I told you, I knew you didn't need his help from the onset”.

“ Come over to the restaurant close to my company, I am buying you lunch”.

“ Oh! Okay”. His face was filled with smiles as soon as he hung up, there was a pile of documents stacked up he still needed to review and some needed his signature. 

But it was his wife who needed his attention, he immediately resigned from everything he was doing and scampered out with his bike at the parking lot.

Arriving at the restaurant, there was a strong aroma of coffee and beef that filled the air mixed with some hint of lemon. 

He stood at the entrance, his eyes slowly scanning around the room as they rested on his wife who had a few strains of her hair covering her face while she sipped her cup of coffee. 

“ Lisa! ” he called out, grabbing the seat opposite her, seeing a smile on her face made him feel a tickle in his heart. 

“ That was fast, we're you around this neighborhood? ”.

“ Yes, I was doing some delivery”. He gritted through his teeth. 

“ Oh! I see… I submitted a proposal at Bryn Empire, I never thought that they would even glance at it and yet they called me, Bryn Empire called me and said they wanted to do business with me”.

 She could not stop grinning from ear to ear, he had never seen her this excited and it made him happy just listening to her rant about her achievement. 

“ You know that Lilly works as a model there, I can't wait to see her face when she hears about this deal, I am going to give it my possible best to create the best designs, that way they don't regret doing business with me”.

“ You don't have to do so much, they agreed to your proposal because they can see what an amazing woman you are”.

 His eyes slowly trail down to her chest, part of it was fully exposed, he quickly drifted his eyes away, feeling a surge of emotions in his body. 

“ Now I have finally had the entire family off my back, they won't get to pressure me about the divorce and now I can run away from Jeff, I am so excited”.

“ I can see it, you have never been this happy before”.

“ I almost forgot to order, what would you like to eat, anything at all? ”.

“ I am fine with anything I am served”.

“ Oh.. Of course! ”. She lifted her hand trying to get the attention of the waitress who understood and scurried over to their table with the menu. 

“ Are you ready to order now miss? ”.

“ Yes, I was waiting for my husband”. She replied and the waitress darted her eyes to the shabby-looking man with worn-out clothes while she tried to hide the disgust that was written on her face. 

Lisa clearly understands the judgmental look when she introduces Harry as her husband. 

When she first got married to him, she was so embarrassed that she wouldn't let him get anywhere close to her, but today she was so excited because somehow he told her that things would get better and they did get better. 

“ Get us two servings of steak and a good wine”.

“ Yes, ma'am”. The waitress replied, her gaze at Harry one more time before she exited the table. 

Harry carefully enjoyed the meal with his eyes not drifting away from her for a moment, her face glowing under the radiance of the sun through the window as she had her eyes fixed on her phone while she slowly dipped her fork into her plate.

Charles was with his wife Lilly at his office when he got the news about the collaboration between these two companies. 

He had called his wife to discuss how he was been treated at the Bryn Empire today hoping that his wife could speak to her manager about it, but the sudden news he received pissed him off more. 

“ Lilly, what the hell is going on, I thought you told me that you were going to get on the good side of the new president so that our contract with them could be renewed”.

“ He just resumed duty as the president today, I will speak to him tomorrow”.

“ He just resumed post today but was able to make such a decision regarding Timeless Fashion while our proposal has been getting dust on his shelf! ”. Charles roared, his heart racing frantically as a result of the rage building inside of him. 

Ever since his wife started working for BRYN EMPIRE, his company has been able to secure several contracts with various companies, he has been respected by everyone. 

He had never experienced such humiliation as he did today, and while he was hoping to teach Harry a lesson through his wife, things just got worse. 

“ You have to Calm down Charles, you can't let a low life like Harry get under your skin, I will speak to my manager tomorrow and see if he can secure a meeting for me with the president, and believe me, I am going to take away that contract from her”.

“ You have to, else Your father and Grandma Maria will be so disappointed in you, They were looking forward to that contract”.

“ I know, and I am going to make this work, but you have to start getting ready for tonight”.

“ Tonight? What is happening tonight? ”.

“ It is a welcome party for the new president of the company at the club and it cost me a fortune to get an invite”.

“ I thought the party was only meant for the titanium members of the company? ”.

“ No, also platinum members and guess what, I was able to upgrade to a platinum member”.

“ What!! You bought the Club membership worth fifty million, you are yet to renew your contract with them and you are spending such a fortune”.

“ I am the best model there and have made more sales for them than any other model, of course, my contract will be renewed”.

“ Are you sure, because as it stands right now, my company is at its edge and we can't afford to lose any further”.

“ And we won't, you just have to trust me! ”. She pats his shoulder gently, swinging her curves as she steps out of his office. 

 As soon as Lisa arrived back home from work, Madam Emily rushed out to her and embraced her. 

“ Lisa! Is this true, Uncle Eric called today and wanted to find out how you did, he asked if you could put in good words for him when you meet with the president tomorrow”.

“ Mother, this was all luck, and besides I won't be meeting the President, but the manager instead, he is the president of such a large multi-billion company, you think that he would have time for someone like you”.

“ I don't care, all that matters right now is that your company is going to be getting all the attention it needs, imagine being able to create a billion-dollar design with your name on it? ”.

“ Yes Mother, it feels like a dream to me, I hope they don't get to decide otherwise”.

“ I cannot wait to see the face of Sophia when you make it big”. The excitement on her face was out of the world. 

The doorbell rang and they both hurried to the door, a delivery man stood outside with a parcel. 

“ A parcel for Ms. Lisa Carrion? ”.

“ Yes, that is me”.

“ Sign here please”. He ordered and both mother and daughter exchanged a glance. 

“ Did you Order anything? ”. Emily asked as soon as she was done signing and handed the parcel. 

“ Not all, let go inside, then we can see who it is from? ”. Lisa shut the door behind her and carefully unwrapped the parcel. 

“ Oh my God! Mother, it says it from BRYN EMPIRE!! ”. Both their eyes widened in excitement. 

“ It is a black invite! ”. Lisa announced as she opened the parcel. 

“ I have been invited to a party at their club tomorrow, there is a dress code below, it says blue and white with a mask, it a mask party Mother”.

“ Lisa is this happening, you are going to be attending a party at the biggest club in town, how in the world is this happening! ”.

“ I don't know Mother, I can't fathom what is happening”. Tears slowly tickle down her cheeks. 

“ Do you think that perhaps the president has grown a liking for you? ”.

“ Mother! Can you stop being delusional, how can he like me when he has never even met me, do you think that maybe they were captivated by my design? ”.

“ I don't care about their reason, but you need to buy a new dress”.

“ I can't waste money because of a party! ”.

“ It is not just a party, it is a platinum party of the most influential in midtown, you have to! ”.

“ Fine, I will think about that, I am hungry, is there food at home? ”.

“ Your worthless husband isn't back yet, I wonder what he is still doing this late at night”.

“ Maybe he is stuck in traffic” Lisa defended but Emily scoffed. 

“ A bike stuck in traffic, don't you see how funny that sounds, I think that it is high time you stop giving him allowance or he might learn to grow wings”.

“ Mother, the allowance I give to him is just a few bucks, he needs some money to survive”.

 Just then, the door knob twisted and Harry hurried in looking all sweat and dirt. 

“ Sorry I am late, I encountered an accident on my way home”. Lisa's eyes slowly drifted to the blood on his shirt, she opened her mouth to speak but was interrupted by Emily who was already yelling. 

“ You worthless human! I think that it is high time you stop going out in the name of work and stay at home to do your duty well, Lisa is going to become a big shot soon and won't need to come back home after a hectic day without food”.

“ I am sorry Ma, I will quickly prepare something”. He replied and hurried upstairs with the big bag he came back home with. 

“ Stop right there! ”. Lisa commanded as he rode the staircase and he came to a halt. 

“ What is that you are holding? ”.

“ Oh! It is a dress I bought on my way back home”.

“ A dress? ”. Lisa asked perplexed and hurried over to his side, grabbing the dress away from him”.

“ I have been saving a few bucks from the allowance I get from you when I saw girls trooping over to this boutique, I went closer and noticed that it was a matching outfit that came with a mask and since you attend all these fancy parties, I guess you could use it”.

 Lisa unfurled it and her jaws almost dropped. 

“ Mother look, it's blue and white, the dress code for tomorrow's party”.

“ That dress looks like a designer! ”.Emily exclaimed, as she slowly scrutinized the dress. 

“ No ma'am, it is the replica of a branded wear, it was on discount at a boutique”. He gritted. 

Lisa slowly ran her fingers through the dress, her eyes grinning with suspicion. 

“ Harry, are you certain that this is not a designer because the quality and the stitches are kind of top-notch”.

“ Come on Lisa, it must be the replica as he mentioned because there is no way in this world Harry will be able to get his hands on designer wear, even if he has to work his entire life”.

“ Yes ma! That is exactly my point”. Harry bowed his head low as he spoke, not daring to look them in the eyes. 

“ Thank you, Harry, for this”.

“ Why are you thanking him, it is not like you will be able to wear a replica to such a party”.

“ Still Mom, he made an effort, and since it is the first, it is only proper that I appreciate him”.

“ I will quickly go and prepare you something to eat” He announced and hurried away.
