8. Read it

As anticipated, the drive through the night took three hours, and at exactly 10:32 p.m, they arrived at Axel City. It was quiet throughout the city, mostly because those who live here are very influential and wealthy families.

The streets were not filled with clubs, only a few, and also it was past ten pm, so most people had returned to their houses.

The drive to the Slytherin's house took twenty minutes, they passed numerous checkpoints, and being a police chief, the man had easy access through these checkpoints by showing off his official license.

The Slytherin family bought a massive plot of land, enough to create a small town. Not just that, the position of the land was spectacular, being situated above the city near the rocks.

Each member of the family had their house at different points, but the Slytherin house itself was situated at the far end of the land on the left, a mansion built on the rock.

The breathtaking view of Axel City from the mansion was spectacular, and the cool breeze and silent night, were good reasons to live in a place like this.

"Who are you?" A well-armed military man stopped the cheif car at the entrance into the compound.

As usual, the chief showed them his licence, but it did not stop the military man from asking further questions.

"Why are you here?" He asked.

"I'd wish to see Mrs Amy Slytherin, please." The chief replied.

"By 10 pm?" The military man asked with a raised brow that could be seen under the street lights.

"It's very urgent, and I believe it's something she would love to hear." The chief replied with a smile, but the military man wasn't convinced.

"You will have to return tomorrow sir, she is asleep and must not be disturbed. Do you have an appointment with her?" He inquired.

"None, I do not need an appointment to tell her that we found her long-lost son." The chief emphasised the last three words to make the military man curious.

"Excuse me?" He asked.

"Her son in the car with me," replied the chief as he signalled Oscar to come closer so the man could see him.

"I'm afraid I don't believe you, sir. If their son was found, our team would have received a call from the head station, and we would have sent a plane to pick up the young master... " While the military man was still speaking, the chief collected the papers from the cop in the front seat and handed them over to him.

"What is this?" Asked the military man as he took the paper.

"Read it," the chief uttered with a smile.

After reading the first few lines, the military man's jaws dropped, and he looked at Oscar and back to the paper with excitement.

"It's truly you, sir!" He exclaimed, and Oscar could only smile.

"What has the chief done this time?" He wondered.

"Mrs Amy will be very glad to hear such news. After our boss's disappearance, she has been depressed and refused to have any company. This will surely lighten up her mood. Please come in."

The man pressed a button on a device in his hand, which automatically opened the gate to let them drive into the compound.

Once inside, Oscar could not believe his eyes. The mansion was a hundred times more beautiful than he had seen from afar.

"Wow," He mumbled.

"Wow indeed," the chief uttered with a smile.

The car was parked and they alighted. The military men ushered them into the house. Since it was late at night, he couldn't have them waiting outside, especially the one who he believed was their young master.

"Please, sit down," he said.

The living room was large, with a comfortable white fury sofa, a glass centre table and large high-resolution television in front of a white aesthetic frame.

To welcome them, a few maids brought some water and cold juice and asked if they needed anything else.

Oscar felt a bit uncomfortable with how he was being treated. He was also nervous about the outcome of this meeting. He took a deep breath and gulped down the glass of water that was placed before him.

"Do you want anything else, sir?" The maid asked him, and he shook his head from side to side.

The military man came downstairs in no time, and his presence startled Oscar for a second. He was expecting to see Amy Slytherin behind him, but she wasn't, and this amplified his anxiety.

He could almost hear his heartbeat from outside, and if not for the air conditioner, he probably would have been sweating all over now.

"Mr Oscar?" The military man called his name, and he quickly looked up, trying his best to overcome his anxiety.

"Yes?" He replied.

"Mrs Slytherin, I would love to see you now. I haven't said anything to her. I only handed the papers to her and told her someone wanted to see her urgently. I'm very sure she will get the idea after reading through the paper, so please come with me."

With a sigh, Oscar stood to his feet, he stole a glance at the chief and the officers who had come along with him.

"Mr Oscar?" The military man called his attention, and Oscar realized that he had just been standing there without moving an inch.

"I understand that this is very...uhm... overwhelming, but don't worry, this is your home. There's no need to be nervous, sir." The military man tried to reassure him with a smile before leading Oscar to the staircase.

They got up the stairs, and the military man knocked on the door,

"Come in," Amy's voice replied from the other side and Oscar's heart skipped a beat. This was it, the moment of truth.

He was about to meet someone who could be his real mother, or it could be a moment of embarrassment. Either way, he was scared. His hand shook slightly as he grabbed the doorknob.

After a few seconds of silence, he mustered the courage to open the door and walk in.
