“I thought I could earn some money and help my parents build another floor in our house,” Irene was explaining to Jessica with a pitiful expression. “But now, I can’t work in that hotel anymore.”

“Something, yeah,” Irene smirked. “How would I know if they’re paying genuinely out of the profits? I’m sure they’ll make us sign new documents tomorrow morning, and if they pay me 100 dollars after I work for fifteen days, what will I do with that money? The suit I wear at the job cost 90 dollars for me, Jessica,” she angrily raised her voice. “And I need to work for fifteen days to get that money back? Are you kidding me? I’ll earn more if I babysit some kid in our neighborhood.”
