CHAPTER ELEVEN :The Second Letter

" The first letter contained the information about the first murder as you were all informed," the police chief said.

" While the second letter contains...?" James asked.

" The second letter was more like a threat and warning to the police commissioner for reason best known to the killer and the police commissioner.

" The police commissioner did not find it normal to inform the police maybe he won't have died," James said,in reaction.

" Even if the police won't have been able to stop his murder. The way I'm looking at it, there's more to the crime than you think," the police chief said.

" You are talking as if there's something you are not saying," Ven questioned.

" There's nothing to say apart from this. The only thing I will say is that the person is familiar with the police mode of operations," The police chief said.

" That means we should swap the style," he asked.

" I believe that will be better," the police chief said.

" Can I see that letter the killer sent to the police commissioner?" Ven asked, the police chief was shocked.

He didn't feel at ease even telling him about the letter. He's still demanding for the strange letter. He's just worried, he's not ready to loose more of his people.

" What do you need the letter for?" The police chief asked, even though it's a question he already knows the answer to.

" It's for the investigation," he answered. He feels that there is more to what the police chief is releasing out, that he needs to find out himself. He wonders why he's feeling reluctant to provide the details that will help in the investigation, especially since he's the one vying for promotion.

" I think I've explained what the letter is all about, the letter is not necessary," the police chief said.

" It's highly necessary for the investigation. The letter might contain some other hidden information that you may not pay attention to," James tried explaining.

" That means you still want to go through the letter?" The police chief queried, and James could swear that this behavior is unlike him, unless there's something else he's trying to hide.

" Is there anything in the letter that you trying to hide?" He asked.

" There's nothing there that I'm trying to hide, I'm only concerned about your safety. This killer is highly dangerous, and could eliminate anyone he deems fit," he said with fear.

" This is unlike you Sir, don't tell me that the killer has instilled his fear in you?" Ven asked with concern.

" No, I just don't want any of the police force to die unjustly," he said sadly.

" Nobody is dying. We need to do what is right and execute our duty as the police. If we don't do our job properly, this killer will succeed in ruining Raws and that must be stopped," Ven said with pain.

He feels ashamed and annoyed that everything is going for the killer as planned. Why is it so difficult to nab him? Or is he handling it from the wrong angle?

The police chief handed over the letter to James, which James received happily and left his office to work on it.

When he got to his office,he sat down and carefully opened the letter. He read the letter and confirmed that it was just as the police chief stated just that it had some symbols that he was unable to get.

The letter was written in a way which depict familiarity with the police commissioner and that appalled him. There was no way, the police commissioner will have anything to do with the killer, that fact he knows.

He read the letter countless times in order to decipher the accurate meaning to the letter. He has a feeling that there's something that will serve as a lead in the letter, but unfortunately the letter failed to present himself as such.

James decided to visit the late commissioner of police house, to search the place for anything beneficial to the investigation. There's this feeling of a link between the police commissioner and the killer that he felt when he was reading the letter.

He got to the police commissioner's home in the afternoon since it was far from their station, and he was trying to sneak out in order to avoid questions from the policy chief.

The police Commissioner's wife and children were not around. They felt that the killer could be after their whole family, the reason for leaving the town to settle elsewhere. He just hope there's something important that he will able to recover from his house.

He entered the house and started the search. He deliberately didn't bring anybody to help him,he didn't want to make it elaborate until he get his hand on something valuable to the investigation.

He started the search from the police commissioner's bedroom. He saw his portrait and the size of the bedroom, which made him conclude that the room belong to the late police commissioner.

He went through the files one after the other, but didn't come across anything fishy. He searched the whole room thoroughly before moving to the next room which looks like it belong to the wife.

He searched the room to his satisfaction, but didn't find anything. He then proceeded to the children room. He checked their rooms but didn't find anything. That even made him more determined to search the whole house again.

He moved to the kitchen, who knows the killer might have visited the house before his death thinking he was at home, before ending it in the office.

He checked every nook and cranny of the house, but it felt like his journey to the house was more like a waste of time.

He is trying his best to believe that the previous crimes by the killer was not perfect, he's trying to commit himself to find out the lacuna in the crimes to prove it to the killer that he was far from perfect.

Then suddenly,he felt that on the chair he's sitting in the living room, whenever he tries moving his body on the chair, he feels something underneath.

He was tempted to dip his hands into the chair, when his hand touched something while that came as a shock to him. He brought it out and saw the similarity between them....
