Bankruptcy Overnight

The next day.

At the break of dawn, when Amanda woke up, she found herself in an unfamiliar hotel room.

Feeling uneasy, she quickly checked her clothes. Everything was intact, and there were no signs that someone else had been in the bed.

"What happened exactly?"

Amanda was confused and couldn't understand what had transpired after she drank that glass of wine last night.

Just as she began feeling dizzy and overwhelmed, the door suddenly opened.

Ken walked in.

"Awake?"

The two locked eyes, creating a somewhat awkward atmosphere.

"Last night..."

Amanda hesitated, fearing to learn that something unpleasant had indeed happened.

"You had an allergic reaction to something at the dinner table, fainted, and I happened to see it. So, I arranged for you to stay in a hotel room."

"Uh..."

A blatant lie, utter nonsense.

Just as Amanda was about to expose him, Ken suddenly said, "The money issue has been resolved. You can rest assured."

Ken, not mentioning the previous matter, began spouting more nonsense. This enraged Amanda, and she pointed at Ken.

"When are you going to change this habit of lying? If you really have the ability, do you still need to marry into my family?"

Amanda was extremely disappointed. A man could be poor or lack talent, but having all these faults made him detestable.

"Get out. I don't want to see you. Just go!"

"Rest well."

Ken truly left the room.

Amanda lay on the bed, covering her face with both hands. Suddenly, she screamed and vented her emotions through wild gestures.

...

Nixon Group's General Manager's office.

Alfred Nixon brewed himself a cup of coffee, leisurely sipping it when a knock sounded.

"Come in."

Alfred Nixon put down the coffee cup as the office door was pushed open.

Walking in was a man, none other than Carl Charles, the Chairman of the Charles Group.

Alfred Nixon was about to stand up to greet him when he noticed the unfriendly expression on Carl Charles' face.

Behind him were over a dozen bodyguards, each carrying boxes. They filed into the office, placing the boxes on the ground.

Alfred Nixon, somewhat bewildered, stood up.

"Carl Charles, why did you personally come over so early? Are you here to sign the contract?" Alfred Nixon smiled, attempting to be flattering.

Carl Charles only glanced at him and waved his hand. The bodyguards behind him filled the office, opening the boxes simultaneously, revealing stacks of cash.

"This is the five million you wanted. Count it!"

Carl Charles stared at Alfred Nixon.

Alfred Nixon widened his eyes, finding it hard to believe the piles of cash in dozens of boxes. He couldn't comprehend.

"Carl Charles, why... why are you doing this?"

Alfred Nixon was bewildered.

Carl Charles sneered, "Alfred Nixon, although we have no personal dealings, there's no grudge between us either. I brought you the money, but let me make one thing clear."

He took out a few contracts, blocking Alfred Nixon's view and tore them apart.

"Carl Charles, what is this..."

"Starting today, all the companies under my name unilaterally terminate contracts with your Nixon family. The five million is compensation for breaking the contracts. Take it."

Alfred Nixon was dumbfounded.

"Hey, Carl Charles, what's going on?"

At that moment, more people entered, carrying boxes of cash.

"Is Alfred Nixon here? If he's doing business like this, he's got no friends."

Watching them also leave five million as compensation and unilaterally tearing up contracts, Alfred Nixon, staring at the scattered banknotes, was completely bewildered, unable to understand what was happening.

"Why, Carl Charles? Why are you doing this?"

"Why are you asking us?"

"Hehe, figure it out yourself."

After Carl Charles and another company's manager left, the subsequent events left Alfred Nixon in utter shock.

Friendly partners came to terminate contracts, and those with poor relationships simply called to cancel all collaborations.

In addition to this, news of stock declines, bank debts, regulatory commission involvement, and project terminations poured in.

Stocks plummeted.

Banks demanded repayment.

Projects halted.

Collaborations canceled.

Nixon Company was on the brink of collapse overnight.

Completely finished!

...

Ken stood in the hotel corridor, answering a call.

"Everything went smoothly. Nixon Company's stock has plummeted to the lowest, and all shareholders have withdrawn their investments. They'll go bankrupt very soon," reported the Rabbit.

"Good, I got it." Ken said, hanging up.

As soon as he hung up the phone, he heard the door behind him open. Amanda walked out.

Their eyes met, and for a moment, neither spoke.
