Hanging Up

To be honest, Alfred Nixon has never suffered such a great humiliation in his life.

Trembling, Alfred Nixon dialed the phone again. He was almost enraged to the extreme, speaking incoherently:

"So, you want me to publicly kneel and apologize, huh? Fine, I'll apologize publicly. Where are you? I'm coming to apologize!"

"Victory Square."

"Don't leave Victory Square. I'll be there soon."

Alfred Nixon angrily hung up the phone, glaring fiercely at Ellie, who was standing there dumbfounded.

Without a word, he stormed out, dragging Samuel Nixon along.

Ellie was dumbfounded. Since her husband's death, she had been bowing and scraping in front of Alfred Nixon, speaking cautiously. Who would have thought that today would turn out like this? Although she didn't know the reason, it was truly satisfying.

Even this useless guy had some use after all.

Just after Ken hung up the phone,

Amanda walked out of the restroom, looking puzzled.

"Who were you talking to so mysteriously?"

"Your Uncle Alfred Nixon."

Amanda was taken aback.

"What does he want by calling you?"

"Nothing much. He just wants to publicly kneel and apologize to you."

"Oh, are you drunk?" Amanda looked bewildered.

Ken chuckled, "He also wants to reinstate your position."

Amanda rolled her eyes. In her impression, anyone who dared to hang up Alfred Nixon's call usually didn't have a good ending.

"I don't care."

Amanda didn't take it seriously and turned to leave.

Ken questioned, "Where are you going?"

"Looking for a job. Where else can I go?"

Ken shook his head helplessly and followed behind.

Alfred Nixon was truly suffering the greatest humiliation of his life today.

He swore that when he saw Ken, he would personally beat the hell out of this bastard.

Driving with a sense of urgency, they arrived at Victory Square. After parking the car, Alfred Nixon arrogantly dialed Ken's number.

"I'm here. Where are you?"

On the other end of the phone, Ken, calm and composed, said, "I'm on the subway. I'll be at Triumph Square soon."

"What the hell!"

Alfred Nixon was almost bursting with anger.

"You asked me to apologize in person. Why are you running around?"

"I'm getting impatient. Where are you looking for us?Beep..."

"Fuck!"

Ken hung up the phone, facing Amanda.

"Was that really a call from Uncle Alfred Nixon?"

"Who else could it be?" Ken replied.

"Why did you talk to him like that?" Amanda questioned. In her mind, people who dared to hang up on Alfred Nixon usually had a tough time.

"Don't worry; now he needs something from us. Just wait and see."

While Ken was contemplating this,

suddenly, the phone rang, breaking the silence.

It wasn't Alfred Nixon calling; it was a call from Amanda's mother, Ellie.

Amanda quickly answered the phone.

"Mom, what's wrong?"

Ellie's anxious voice came through the phone:

"Where are you? Hurry to the hospital; your grandfather is in critical condition."

Five minutes later, the car stopped in front of the central hospital.

Amanda opened the car door and rushed into the hospital.

Ken casually tossed the car aside and followed Amanda into the hospital.

In the ward, members of the Nixon family surrounded the bedside in a circle.

Even before entering the room, the sound of crying could be heard from inside.

Amanda ran up, seeing her mother anxiously pacing outside the door.

"Mom, what happened?"

"Nixon Corporation is on the verge of bankruptcy. Your grandfather, upon hearing the news, suffered a heart attack. The doctor says he might not hold on much longer. They're all inside the room waiting for Old Nixon to speak his last words."

Ellie's eyes were filled with tears of anxiety.

"Come inside with me."

Ken followed the two into the ward. Upon seeing Alfred Nixon crying and wailing in front of the hospital bed, Amanda approached. Alfred Nixon heard the footsteps behind him, turned around, got up from the bedside, and slapped her across the face!

"You still have the face to come!"

"If it weren't for you, Nixon Corporation wouldn't be in this situation today!"

"You, the jinx, today, if I don't beat you to death, I'll let down the ancestors of the Nixon family."
