We are family

Nixon House

Alfred Nixon was sitting in the Nixon family sipping his coffee, quite pleased with how he had handled Amanda and her departure.

Outside the courtyard, Samuel Nixon rushed in, looking anxious. Alfred Nixon frowned, displeased with his son's appearance.

"Samuel! What's this disheveled look? How can you inherit the Nixon family acting like this?" Alfred scolded.

Samuel caught his breath and hurriedly said, "Dad, something's wrong. Carl Charles from Charles Group insists on signing the contract only with Amanda. He even threw me out. I don't know what kind of magic potion Amanda used on him!"

Alfred Nixon's face darkened. "Do you know how much effort our Nixon family put into securing this project? Now, he refuses to sign the contract? I don't care what means you use, but you must get this contract signed. If the contract falls through, you'll take the blame!"

Samuel Nixon's face turned pale. He thought he had stumbled upon a windfall, but it turned out to be a hot potato.

"What should we do now, Dad?"

Alfred Nixon remained silent for a moment, then said, "If Charles Group won't sign with us but only with Amanda, then we'll attribute all the losses from this contract to her!"

Samuel Nixon pondered for a moment and then smiled. "Dad, you're right. If Charles Group is so adamant about signing with Amanda, she must be causing trouble. Let her bear the losses for the company!"

Alfred Nixon got up from his chair. "Enough talking. Find her and demand the money."

Samuel Nixon hurriedly arranged for transportation, and both of them headed towards Amanda's home.

In just over ten minutes, they arrived outside Amanda's house.

A series of urgent knocks echoed, reaching Ellie's ears. "They're here, they're here! Stop knocking!" Ellie shouted towards the door and opened it, only to find Alfred Nixon and his son. The flames of anger inside Ellie ignited.

"Hey, what are you two doing in my house?"

Samuel Nixon pushed Ellie aside and walked in. "Where's Amanda? Tell her to come out!"

Ellie, now pushed aside, tried to push them back, but being just a woman, she couldn't compete with Alfred Nixon's strength.

"Enough!" Ken, who was sitting on the sofa, stood up abruptly, a hint of killing intent in his eyes.

However, Alfred Nixon paid no attention to Ken, not even bothering to look at him. "Amanda, what are you doing talking to your elders like this? Shouting and screaming, don't you have any manners?"

Amanda gritted her teeth, irritated by Alfred Nixon's arrogance. "What do you want? Why are you here?"

Samuel Nixon sneered at Amanda. "What do we want? Amanda, don't pretend to be innocent. Don't you know what you've done? Because of you, Charles Group refused to sign a contract with Nixon, causing significant losses. You have to take responsibility!"

"Me? Haha!" Amanda glared at Samuel Nixon. "You expelled me from the Nixon Group, and now you're not satisfied? What responsibility do I have to bear?"

Alfred Nixon chuckled. "Expelling you from the Nixon Group won't change anything. Do you know how much money the company invested in this contract? A whopping fifty million! Since the contract is now void, I expect you to transfer the compensation of five million to the company's account by tomorrow morning!"

Amanda looked at Alfred Nixon in disbelief. She was shocked by his shamelessness. Expelling her from the Nixon Group and now trying to ruin her completely!

"Why? Why should I pay you five million?" Amanda asked, angered.

"Why? Let me tell you why. It's because of this project. Because of your interference, the contract is gone. We can handle the loss of business, but you must compensate the company for its losses!" Alfred Nixon stated coldly.

Amanda looked at the Nixon father and son, speechless and appalled.

Seeing the forlorn expression on Amanda's face, Ellie, who had been helped up by Amanda, suddenly changed her attitude.

"Big brother... we're all family, bound by blood. It's not worth escalating this matter, is it?"

Chapter 10 They Are Unjust, We Can Only Respond Unjustly

Alfred Nixon snorted coldly. "One family? Who's family with you? Take a good look at what kind of people you and your daughter are. Compared to my family, are you even worthy?"

Ellie lowered her head. "Yes, yes, big brother, we're not worthy. But five million is too much!"

Amanda grabbed Ellie, expressing her discontent. "Mom, they are just playing dirty. If we don't pay this money, they won't let it go!"

Ellie turned to face Amanda. "This is five million! Do you have five million? Even if we sell everything we have, it won't be worth five million!"

"Who in this house can come up with five million?" Ellie continued. "Amanda, kneel down quickly and beg your uncle!"

Just as Ellie was about to kneel down, a hand suddenly rested on her shoulder. Ellie turned to see Ken.

"Five million is nothing. I'll pay," Ken said, looking at the Nixon father and son without fear.

Samuel Nixon opened his mouth and burst into laughter. "What did you say? Five million? Are you out of your mind? That's five million, not five thousand! Someone like you can't make five million in a lifetime!"

Ken's expression darkened. "I will pay the money, and you better be prepared to face the consequences of your shameless actions."

Before Samuel Nixon or Alfred Nixon could react, Ken continued, "Alright, I'll be waiting for it!"

Alfred Nixon, wearing a sardonic smile, found the situation amusing. "Fine... I'll be looking forward to it."

Alfred Nixon and Samuel Nixon left without bothering further with Ken. The promise Ken made seemed impossible to fulfill, and they had no intention of pursuing it. They could wait for a night.

After Alfred Nixon and Samuel Nixon left, Ellie raised her hand and delivered a resounding slap to Ken's face.

"You heartless scum! Who do you think you are? You talk big, but in the end, the money will still come from Amanda!"

Ellie glared at Ken, disappointed that what seemed like a glimmer of hope turned out to be a dead end.

Ken looked at Ellie without saying a word. Amanda stepped in, stopping her furious mother.

"Enough, Mom. He meant well. Our priority now is to gather the money quickly."

"Five million! We can't scrape together that much money by tomorrow morning!" Ellie shouted.

Ken sighed. "It's just five million. Tomorrow morning, the money will be delivered to Nixon Group."

Before Ken could finish his sentence, Ellie delivered another slap to him. "You're all talk. Get out of here. Don't let me see you again. Get out of my house!"

Amanda intervened to calm her angry mother. "Don't make my mom angrier. Go on, leave. Hide for a while."

Ken sighed again and obediently left.

Ken had a mission to complete. If it weren't for the need to conceal his identity, he could have transferred the money on the spot. Five million was not a significant amount for him.

Ken hadn't anticipated that the Nixon father and son would take such extreme measures. Facing heartless people, Ken decided not to play fair.

They were unkind, so he could only treat them without mercy.

...

A car pulled up at the side of the street, and Ken got in the passenger seat.

"Is this task so complicated?" The Rabbit sounded a bit impatient. Ken had given her quite a lot to handle since accepting the task.

"Enough with your complaints. Anyway, by tomorrow, I want Nixon Group on the brink of bankruptcy."

"Fine, however you want."

At that moment, Ellie and Amanda walked past the car.

"There's only one way now!"

"I have no choice. I'll introduce you to him. If he likes you, maybe he'll lend us five million!"

"Let's patch up the company's hole first. We can figure out a solution later!"

Ellie held Amanda's hand, pleading. This was their last resort. If they couldn't produce five million in compensation by the next morning, facing substantial damages, they might as well jump off a building.

Amanda, with an unwilling face, whispered, "Mom, is there really no other way?"

"Amanda, I don't force you. Five million is our last chance." Ellie earnestly persuaded.

Amanda's face turned slightly pale. She sighed heavily.

"Daughter, don't worry. We're just having a meal together. Your mom won't harm you."

"Taxi."

The mother and daughter hailed a taxi, leaving Ken to watch as Amanda, with light makeup and changed clothes, got into the taxi. Ellie was leading her to meet someone significant, a person who might help them.

For the Nixon family to push her to this extent, they were truly ruthless.

"Rabbit, stop staring. Follow them."

"Understood."

The Rabbit started the car, tailing the taxi.
