Chapter 56

Elijah and Cora glanced at the face of the woman they had not seen since the fatherless charity function. Clara, clothed in fur in this heat wave, her lips were crimson red, stood in between her sons, as usual.

"You both are just staring at me like it's the first time you are using your eyes properly," Clara said. She turned to look into the glass window that Elijah had been staring through before she came in. "So what's the situation?"

Elijah and Cora did not respond, the only sound that filled the silence was the shuffling feet of nurses and doctors going in and out of patient wards. "Have you both suddenly gone deaf?" Clara asked.

Elijah gritted his teeth and stepped away from the glass, moving closer to Cora. "Why are you here Clara?"

"The last time I checked I am still family, and that old man laying right there," Clara said, pointing at Lucas, "is still my father-in-law."
