"You only know how to come now?" John barked as he saw Raymond striding in like he did not have the whole room waiting for him.
When he entered, Stella, who had never seen Raymond before, was shocked by his appearance and aura. However, she had done her investigation and was even informed that he was sick just yesterday, which meant that her sister would become a widow in at most two years.
Nothing could beat this kind of deal.
"I had to eat and take my medications, and since there's no housekeeper, I had to make the meal myself." He replied simply.
Although it was just two sentences, the face of the Brooks family changed while a girl that looked nothing more than eighteen finally looked up at him.
Her eyes flashed with appreciation as she looked at his beautiful appearance. Even without any effort, Raymond had a face that was bordering on beauty.
Julia, the second daughter of the Brooks family who was supposed to get married to Raymond, frowned slightly as she looked at him for a little bit more.
No one would have imagined that the girl could see through his condition almost immediately, yet she said nothing and went back to looking at her phone, almost as if she wasn't the person they were arranging the marriage for.
From his investigation, Raymond already had some information about the kind of person that Julia was, yet, he felt that when he felt her eyes on him and then looked away, it was almost like she wasn't the person in all those investigation reports.
"Sister, this is Raymond. Just like I told you, his appearance is the best, and he is just the way you like them.
Julia looked at Raymond again and then nodded, however, her actions lacked luster or emotions, intriguing Raymond slightly.
“So, when do we start the preparations?." Father Brooks asked impatiently, unwilling to spend too much time with this small-time family. If his daughter had not insisted on marrying him, he had no reason to pick a man that had disappeared for more than ten years and now had nothing to write home about him for his little princess.
"We can start immediately," John said hurriedly. He was also willing to have matters hurried for his company's sake.
"Father, sister said she doesn't want an elaborate wedding. Since he would be marrying into the family, she would like to save some face for her husband," Stella said while looking at her sister with affectionate eyes.
Julia's father looked at her with question in his eyes, he was busy all year round, but he had always imagined that all girls wanted an elaborate wedding. In fact, he had already ordered that they set a certain amount in his account for Julia's wedding.
Even though she wasn't his favorite daughter, he didn't mind dropping a little bit of money for the celebration.
Julia nodded and then went back to her phone again, making Luke, who had originally felt that his brother got a huge deal for getting such a beautiful woman surprised.
'Was she dumb?' He wondered, thinking that it would make sense if she was actually dumb and her family wanted to push her to someone.
"If we won't be having an elaborate wedding, I can bring over his household documents now so that we complete the process," John added swiftly.
"I brought sister's own here too," Stella said, and Julia, who had been engrossed in her game all through, raised her head.
She looked at Stella for a little bit more than a second and then bent her head back to keep playing her game.
Stella, who didn't know that Raymond had been watching their interaction, sneered at Julia as she opened her purse and brought out her sister's documents.
Although an elaborate wedding would save him the stress of having to tell everyone that their families were now related, it would still have the same intended effect if Julia's father told them regardless.
Father Brooks nodded his head in approval while Luke stood up to get the household documents for Raymond also.
The family of two consisted of six people at the moment; the two fathers, Luke, Stella, Raymond, and Julia, stepped out of the meeting room and drove to the courthouse where they needed to complete the union to both of them.
Since Raymond was marrying into their family, his household documents were removed from the Winston family and moved to the Brooks family.
"Would you be changing your name also?" The attendant asked them as he looked at Raymond with disregard.
There was no one that didn't know the Brooks family. Now that a young and well-capable man like this was marrying into their family, it was clear to the attendant that this was a decision made by greed, and so he felt like Raymond was not worthy of being called a man.
"No." Three people said at the same time.
Raymond, Stella, and Luke.
The attendant nodded and then completed the process before moving them inside, where they went to complete the legal processes.
After doing that, both of them were required to take a picture together, and despite the awkwardness of the marriage situation, everyone there sighed at how attractive the couple was.
Yet, they were both incapable and only had their looks to rely on.
"The both of you are now husband and wife. However, since our daughter is only nineteen, and your living conditions are terrible, you would move into her quarters in Brooks's family until I decide that you both are capable of living alone." Father Brooks said as they got outside the hall.
Raymond frowned slightly and Julia who had acted like she was mute all day long, finally spoke up.
"I'll be living with my husband, regardless of his home conditions." She said resolutely.
Everyone looked between Raymond and Julia as if trying to determine something. Yet, Julia's face was with her fixed blank expression while Raymond had an impassive expression.
Father Brooks had a lot to say, yet before he could say anything, Stella interrupted. "Father, it's better for them if they lived separately. After all, they are already one family. Raymond is also a man," Stella said hurriedly.
If her sister weren't home, her plan to send her away from inheriting anything would go even better!
Father Brooks eventually nodded while Julia's face had a slight sneer as she looked at him. Although he was the father, Stella always led him by the nose.
Since it was unlike a normal wedding, Raymond promised he would come and pick Julia up in the evening. Without waiting for his family, he entered the old Audi that he had driven there and left.Julia's eyes stayed glued to the car until it could no longer be seen while Stella rushed up to her. "Julia, are you happy now? You have finally married the man of your dreams!" She said excitedly."When it's your wedding night this evening, I'm sure that you both would even experience more bonding between one another," this time, her voice was reduced to a low whisper while her face flushed red as she imagined Raymond and Julia together. While Raymond might not have any strong points, his physique was perfect, and even Stella, who had seen her fair share of top heirs and handsome men, still had to admit that a man like him was a rare catch. Unfortunately….Although she had no idea why Julia, that was usually quick to speak and easy to read, now had a blank face, the important thing was, she ha
The car ride back to Raymond's house was quiet. Although Julia had not acted like a typical young heiress, he was certain she couldn't endure his house, yet Raymond had no intention of changing houses. After all, he would be ruining his plans by doing that.So when they got to his house, and he opened the door, he turned to her, "The house is clean, but since the marriage was on such short notice, I would only try to do some renovations tomorrow," he explained politely.Julia nodded in understanding, "I'm going to be in school often. You don't have to change things around here,"Raymond stared down at the expressionless woman right in front of him. She was totally different from the girl in his research. Could she be pretending or something? Raymond disputed the thought and stared back at Julia, whose eyes were roaming around the small old house."Let me just show you to your room”, He added.Julia nodded lightly.Raymond took her box and led the way.She reluctantly followed him. Julia had gone back to bed last night, leaving Raymond to his thoughts. As for Raymond, he felt like he had married a different woman entirely. Just who had influenced the news that his men had gathered? From what he remembered, Julia had demanded that she wanted to marry him after hearing about his good looks. But now she had demanded for a divorce? His lips curled up as he felt like his living conditions had made her change her mind.On the other hand, he was also worried about how she was able to revive him after he collapsed. She seemed confident about him being curable. Did she know the nature of his sickness, or was she just bluffing? After all, this was something that the medical specialists were not capable of doing for years. Seeing a nineteen years old lady confidently saying she could do it made him begin to wonder if she was serious or perhaps his life was some kind of joke to her. After using his meds, he was able to get some sleep, and he woke up to make breakfast for bo
The Brooks family made sure they invited all their business associates and the top men in society to grace the special day of their daughter. They made sure no one was left out. Those who gave excuses for their absence were also in attendance. They had convinced them until they gave in to their request. Everything was set for the party, but the couples were yet to arrive. It wasn't a cause for alarm for the family because they felt, the couples were preparing to arrive in a grand style. Stella had wanted to get Julian's dress, but her mother asked her to discard the idea, saying Julian would sort herself. The grand hall which was family and rented was gradually getting filled with the invited guests. Soft music rented the air as the invitees chatted over a glass of wine as they awaited the couples. Meanwhile, back at Raymond's apartment, Julian stood across the room with her gaze fixed on him. He was wearing a simple wine shirt and well-tailored black pants to go wit
When Julian excused herself, Raymond decided to stretch his legs, which were aching because he had been sitting for too long. He had nowhere in mind to go, so he decided to take a tour around the hall. He had barely walked for a minute when Stella walked up to him with the gift box. “I see you liked your present,” he said offhandedly and she nodded. “I appreciate your effort to impress your in-laws” she replied. Raymond bit his lips as he nodded slowly. If only Stella had known who he was really, she wouldn't have said that to him. “I'm glad I was able to do that,” he said as he beckoned to a waiter who was nearby. He picked up two glasses, then handed one to Stella, which she accepted. “Thank you,” she said with a smile before taking a sip of the wine. They remained in their positions without a word to each other. After a while, Stella smacked her lips to get Raymond's attention. She didn't start speaking until he had his gaze fixed on her. “Tell me, how did you
By the time they returned home, it was already late. Julia tossed Raymond's jacket on the couch, then walked across the room. Raymond considered it rude, but he didn't say a word concerning it, instead, he asked. “You're hungry?” “Yes, but I don't eat late” she replied nonchalantly then resumed her walk. After picking up his jacket, he made his way toward the kitchen. With all the ingredients in place, he was able to get a nice dinner, which he ate with relish. After washing up, he picked up his phone, which was lying across the table. He watched the video several times before tossing his phone aside again. He was convinced that the woman had a grudge against Julia, that's why she did what she did. Several seconds later, he was out of the kitchen and was heading to his room to retire for the night. Meanwhile, Julia lay on her bed as she stared at the ceiling. She was running through the event of her engagement party in her head. If not for the midwife who decided t
Raymond's receptionist began to panic when the ambulance did not arrive on time. She tried to call, but her service line was barred. Leaving the office to go and seek help was the next thing that came to her mind, but she was scared that something bad might happen to him. When she couldn't handle it anymore, she dashed out of his office, only to return moments later. “Hey” she yelled, hoping he would stir, but he was still immobile. Taking his hand, she checked his pulse for the hundredth time. “His pulse is getting lower at an alarming rate and the ambulance is not here yet” she groaned, picking up her phone. In frustration, she tossed the phone aside, then rose from her kneeling position. She took one last look at the immobile body of her boss, then dashed out of the office. Just as she was about to run into the street, she heard the ambulance siren approaching. Relieved, she began to wave her hand frantically in the air to get their attention. “This way” she called out to
Immediately after the doctor came out of the waiting room, and Niko and Adam ran to his side to make inquiries about his health. As usual, he had a negative reply, so they weren't surprised. Raymond was staring into space when his friends joined him. No one said a word to him at first, but when Adam could not contain his anger, he balled his palm into a fist before sending it into the soft bed. “I was already done before it happened,” Raymond said. “If you had taken a break when I asked you to, this wouldn't have happened. Having less than a year left doesn't mean you should try to shorten it” Adam scowled. “I need to achieve my goals before then…” Niko did not allow him to complete his words before he cut in. “Adam is right. Overworking yourself is going to endanger your health the more” “Okay,” Raymond replied to put an end to their advice. If he allowed them to have their way, they wouldn't stop talking. The ward was silent for a while as each one had separate thoug
